Mechanical movements are why I don't enjoy Price of Persia:Sands of Time. There is only one sequence of moves that can get you through the levels... much like Tomb Raider (but the level design in TR isn't as rigidly linear). I did enjoy TR1 a lot in its time though.
The 3D Mario games give the player a lot more freedom... you can choose how you wish to approach a goal. I want to play games in my own way, not the way I am forced to.
The only place Nintendo has really been behind in hardware is using a cartridge for the n64.
The gamecube has moderately lower specifications than the money losing Xbox, but it's best looking games, such as Metriod Prime, look better, IMO, than a game such as HALO.
Nintendo has been the first in introducing most new controller features that and now standards. (d-pad, analog control stick, shoulder buttons, analog triggers, rumble, four controller ports)
It does appear their hardware will be less powerfull this coming generation, though. (based on the very small size of the console)
I just wish they'd put a man-year towards making a new quest to go along with the GBA re-release of the original game. I've played some quite fun and creative SMB3 mods... why can't Nintendo spare a bit of time to make their own?
CPU time per frame is about the same at any graphics setting. GPU time per frame scales greatly based on the settings.
So there is no way to say a game is CPU-bound or GPU-bound unless you state the settings you are using.
I don't like the title "desktop search". It's more like a desktop index.
When I use iTunes, I can find any genre, artist, album, or song in about two seconds by using the search box.
When I use Photoshop Album, I can place the same photo into multiple groups.
One of the problems with a folder structure is that you are limited to one structure of organizing files. There may be several logical way to arrange the same files.
For example, with user editable meta-tags, I could mark certain files with a backup property, so I know which files and folders to backup regularly, while keeping each file in its own directory.
The only reason I'm not willing to buy HD is because there is almost no HD content. If all DVD movies were available in HD, an HD screen would be much more appealing to me. If all video games support HD, that will give me another reason.
why limit oneself to grunting and pointing at pictures when one can express oneself in words? The command line is useful.
The problem with a command line is that it uses strict syntax rules, so it isn't like expressing oneself with words. I prefer something more like the desktop search engines coming out. Even if I know where something is, I can often get to it quiker by typing in a few letters from its filename, and then clicking the file I want from a small list. It would be neat if programs could have meta-data keywords, so I could just type in "photo editor", and get a list of all programs that can edit image files, or type "games", and see all the games I have in a list.
CDs offer me about 90% of the audio quality of real life.
DVD's offer about 1% of the visual quality of real life.... They have a lot more room for growth.

It would sure help for four player Mario Kart
That's what autocomplete is for. Or you can make a list of tags/labels/metadata.
It gets hard when I also want to put the some of the pictures from c:\My Pictures\2005\vacation in c:\My Pictures\FavoritePictures.

He only worked at Valve a short while. Something about having to maintain a fundamentally broken peice of software.
It's 1920*540 or 1280*720... about 1 million pixels.

T2 Extreme is only 1440 x 816.

As soon as Google abuses their power, I'll switch to another service.

most of those run at 480p, too (I think)
I don't drive less when gas prices go up because I can't drive (significanty)less. I can wait until a $60 game is $30.

Project Gotham Racing 2 only runs at 480p, so it is a small upgrade in quality.
And you didn't even get the first post! oh... you weren't talking about Slashdot?
Since hobbits live longer than humans, a hobbit tween is equivalent with a human teen.
Twe(e)n'ties
I got 2 coasters out of it.
Maybe when iMovies and iTV come out.
The proprietary cable to connect the iPod to the TV will be a $30 accessory, of course.

Halo = Circle = 360 degrees Halo is the reason for the xbox's success.
Just like the "Enterprise" TV show wasn't called Star Trek.
