Don't forget the grocery list of companies that Apple has gone after that would use the lower case "i" before a name... I think they are STILL chasing down all of them, not that they really have a leg to stand on, but that doesn't stop the great Apple Asshole machine...
That's because you folks don't have to feed the 800lb. gorilla knows as Best Buy with nefarious actions of their so called "tech support". I've called it "Worst Buy" for many years now...
Should have done that in the first place, or just put a Linux distro on it. When I got my wife a small netbook a few years ago, after less than a year, the XP install started to tank, so I put the Remix version of Ubuntu on it (8.x version, I don't remember), and I couldn't get get a non-Linux distro now on her machine now if I paid her. She does a lot of stuff on it that a student would I'm sure, writing, creating recipe databases, etc. She doesn't handle the updates well, (she still trusts ME to be her "tech support" on it) but other than that, she loves it. Speed was the major bonus for her, plus the stability.
If all it took was strength to beat a fucking lion, then we would have a LOT less lions on the planet. Strength doesn't stop teeth, claws, etc. plus about a 2:1 weight bias, plus physical size etc. Looks like the build up to yet another scene for "Faces of Death"...
...and what exactly is wrong with Mr. Heinlein's works?:)
Robert A. Heinlein had some great ideas as to how government really should have been. Actually READ Starship Troopers, not the movie named after the book. In it, in order to vote, one had to complete either military service, or at least some form of "Federal Service". This included Teaching, as all teachers were paid directly by the Federal level of government, not the city/county/state level of government. Heinlein was VERY ahead of his time, and it's a shame that here we are, well into the 21st century, and we're about as socially/politically backwards as we were 30 years ago.
Let's say someone in Europe (you pick the country, doesn't really matter which one) posts nude pics of their girlfriend. The guy posts them to a site that is designed for such activity, such as any of the plethora of porn/nude sites online. Also assume that some Cro-Magnon from Tennessee can not only get online, but finds said pics of said girlfriend. Now how exactly is Tennessee going to prosecute this individual? Travel to Europe? Extradite? Are you fucking serious? This "law" is just a whole lot of election headline grabbing bullshit, that is all. I wouldn't bet two cents that it will EVER be enforced, other than with other charges of some sort, so that when they go to plea bargain, they can be "nice" and drop this charge, but press any OTHER charges that the guy/gal has on them.
Move along, nothing but southern states bullshit to see here...
You really should watch the WHOLE video... when you, as an arresting officer, have given simple commands such as STOP, and the subject continues to tries to stand up, well, since pretty please probably won't cut it, and at the time it was either nightsticks or guns, they beat his ass until he complied, i.e. STOPPED. Wow, pretty fucking simple if you ask me.
Bottom line kiddies... when the badge asks you to do something simple, like STOP... just fucking stop.
I did before my time in the Air Force... you'd be amazed as to how much hearing damage you can get sitting 30' from an 80% throttled tethered F-16 with NO hearing protection. I can still remember the reasoning... "If you wear hearing protection, you won't be able to hear the crew chief's commands..." military sense, I suppose. What tripped me out was when I got out, and had my exit physical, I had lost about 2khz in the top end, but GAINED that or so in the low end, i.e. sub 4.5khz.
Wow, thirty tries to get a stun gun, a digital camera, and a laser pointer all into the same device... talk about the room full of monkeys on typewriters...
You're missing the point... if the hacks cause Sony to lose customers because of the hacks, then THAT is what hurts Sony. I know I gave up on Sony (for the most part, I got a DVD player for my brother a couple of years ago, and HE was a Sony fan, so that's what he got for his present) years ago personally, right after the rootkit fiasco.
Yes, the "hackers" CAN evade capture for as long as they can. The sheer number of criminals that were never caught boggles the mind. Also, why in hell would the USA give two cold turds about it legally? Sony is a JAPANESE company. That's like saying the USA is going to legislate laws for other countries. Just because Japan apparently has no problem with the CRIMINAL way Sony was supposedly handling their online security, doesn't mean that the USA is going to legislate against it, other than the damages against USA citizens that were harmed because of Sony's neglect of security.
Now, you can plug in that other brain cell, and fire it up... it could use the exercise.
I get it that we should treat our prisioners better than the rest of the world, or at least better than most, however...
What the FUCK ever happend to prisons being for PUNISHMENT? I hear all you folks out there saying "oh, but we're trying to rehabilitate these poor folks". Personally, I'm not for rehab. The fact that a prisoner has a better shot at getting a college education than the less well off members of society just sickens me every time I think about it. A friend of mine was joking the other day saying "you know, I need to do a crime that will get me in prison for 4-6 years. I need to get a free BS degree or two...". The problem was, it's no joke. With all the privilages a prisoner gets nowadays, (and yes, I understand the level of violence in prisons, so it's no cake walk) it's pretty sad that the less fortunate in society get worse treatment than someone that committed a Class A Felony, or six.
Personally, I have a few steps I take when I get software for my Android phone...
1. I ONLY get stuff from the Android App Market. Period. End of Report. I don't give a flying shit if it's from my best friend/tech head/Yahweh... I ONLY get it from THAT market. 2. I look over the permissions requested for said app. I don't mind an app that send out for my "fine location" IF it's say a GPS related app. Most of them DO need that. That being said, I'm pretty goddamn sure that a calculator app sure as shit doesn't. 3. I also look over the reviews on the app that are posted to the app market. If someone, or several someones are having problems with the software on a phone like mine, I usually don't bother, unless I can tell from the posting that the guy/gal is a retard. "This live wallpaper won't run! It's broken! I can't even find the program on my list. It must be malware." sort of bullshit. (Fyi, for those that don't know Android, live wallpapers must be selected through the method you use for choosing wallpapers. It's not an 'app' per se, it just goes into your wallpaper folder on the phone its self.)
Call me paranoid all you want, but this simple process keeps me pretty safe. I also am skittish about rooting my phone, since I would have to keep even closer tabs on my phone, and won't have that wonderful fallback of "return phone to factory reset? Warning, this will erase all your data.".

My compliments to your ethics, sir/ma'am. While I know you can't spend ethics, when you stick to yours, you can sleep FAR better at night.

Just saying, not looking for flamebait here.
I normally stay away from AC comments, but hey, what do you expect from a Brit AC?
Sounds like Shadowrun is coming early...
...OUT...OF...HIS...GOD...DAMNED...MIND...

I thought they just left prototype iPhones in bars...

*I* put tape over MY wife's netbook's webcam... and she's still running Linux... yes, I can be THAT paranoid...

... yeh, but it'll be our LAST problem. :)
It's been said before on here... it's no use responding to AC... so I think I'll stick to that credo.
You sir/ma'am, are a troll.
I hope you have a good ambulance chaser in your town so you can SUE THE FUCK out of that so called police force...
*citation needed...really bad...*

Now THIS, ladies and gentlemen, is an Apple Fanboi... all the rest are officially posers.

Weird, huh?

Very true... that sound, by the way, is in the 20-22khz range, for those that might have any interest...
