Can't thet cut to the chase, how many dead pixels can i get stuck with? as their policy only seems to state:
A QVGA (240x320) or VGA (640x480) display with up to 2 fixed pixels is within industry standards and is therefore considered an acceptable display.
And 2560x1600 is alot bigger than640x480
Plus for that price, I think i prefer 2 samsung high quality 19" flat panels with no dead pixels
Cool, just signed up for Emusic, it seems to have loads of music/bands I like and the price is ok.
I didn't realise there were any services that were DRM free with better than 128biterate, nice to finally start downloading music again without having to break the law (I stopped downloading music when I got a job):)
Well, the obvious answer for this is not to use DRM.
Digital Sign the music you download so it can be tracked back to you if you swap it, and have a updating list on your PC (updated through Windows Update) that stops banned/illegal copied music from being played?
Or come up with a DRM that will work everywhere! It's not that i mind DRM, it's that is stops me from using music the way I want to use music.
When will somebody notice that with a sentance that include the words
though it will not be compatible with iPods
in a story about a online music shop, that all this DRM is really just shooting themselves in the foot! If it doesn't work on a iPod will it not work on a RIO either? how about a sony walkman? Maybe I should download a copy for free and at a higher bit rate from the internet?
Why would i want to buy/rent music that i can't even listen to?
Surely the IP blocker and DRM are different issues?
I'm as against DRM as the next person, if not more so as I have taken steps to boycot companies/music labels that abuse it (I've not downloaded or bought any CDs that use or promote DRM). But the BBC seems to have taken resonable steps to allow fair use at a better level than most over companies.
I think it's important to remember that they have already provided to content via a broadcast over that airwaves that you are free to record and reuse, and this is an extra service to allow even more freedom.
I really don't know enough to be to comment on the DRM legal issue, but I presume that laws can be changed if required.
I know it will always be possible to circumvent DRM, but wouldn;t it be possible to make it so you have to go out of your way to circumvent it?
Plus their directive is to make it availible to as many UK citizens as possible, and isn't paying money (in server and bandwidth costs) more expensive then a short term cost of setting up and running a IP blocker. It also makes it clear that you can download content and watch it anywhere you want.
Doesn't the BBC directive require them to broadcast as many of their shows and share as much information with as many people in the UK as possible.
If they can't show the shows because a contracted company will not allow them to unless they use DRM and restrict viewing to the UK, then i would say they were doing their job correctly in building a system to allow the MAJORITY of the UK audience to view the information. There is nothing to stop you going to your local library when in the UK and watch the programs there.
Plus I'm sure given time and after demonstrating the success of there windows version, they will beable to make a Mac and a Linux version of there program too.
As someone else futher down states, it's only favouriable to some people.
I myself would prefer a outspoken person who lies than someone who always tells the truth.
Jugding someone as bad because they cheat on there wife or drink too much is stupid, because we all have our faults. Judge me if i kill 11 million people (Hitler) or go to war for no good reason (Bush/Blair [1 million people didn't match to Hyde Park because we agreed with you]), spend the equilent of $26M a day since the birth of Christ on the Military (America), have race attacks against blacks and get away with it (KKK - Ameraica), kill innocent tibetans (China), drive SUV's and over polute (Most of the modern world but particularly america), decide to ignore the people and treat them as third class citezens.
Bah, i could go on, i could go on and counter these arguments. I can see both points of few, it's just a perfer the side where everyone gets a chance. In fact i with both sides would get along and bring their ideas together in a sensible way and make some progress
Say it is time to elect a new world leader, and your vote counts. Here are the facts about the three leading candidates:
Candidate A associates with crooked politicians, and consults with anthologists. He's had two mistresses. He also chain smokes and drinks 8 to 10 martinis a day.
Candidate B was kicked out of office twice, sleeps until noon, used opium in college and drinks a quart of whisky every evening.
Candidate C is a decorated war hero. He's a vegetarian, doesn't smoke, drinks an occasional beer and hasn't had any extramarital affairs. Which of these candidates would be your choice? Decide first, no peeking, then scroll down for the answer.
Candidate A is Franklin D. Roosevelt Candidate B is Winston Churchill Candidate C is Adolph Hitler
Sorry it doesn't involve bush, but it shows you can never judge a book by its cover!
And another ones for kicks:
If you knew a woman who was pregnant, who had 8 kids already, three who were deaf, two who were blind, one mentally retarded, and she had syphilis; would you recommend that she have an abortion?
Lets say there is 60M people in this fine country, and 49M are law abiding.
Now of those 11M criminals 10% of them are committing motoring offensives (not including speeding), that's 1,100,000 people without insurance/driving while banned/under-age if these new traps can discourage at least some of these people then the roads will be a better place.
These laws might be targeted at "terrorists" but in reality they will never stop terrorists or hardcore criminals and I for one don't care so much about that group (because it is so small). I care about being hit by an uninsured driver or having some under-age punk speeding up and down my road at 4am.
If i remember correctly it had a novel "mole" that could move along the surface and bury into the ground in an area a few meters away from probe.
In addition, Beagle 2 was equipped with a small "mole" (Planetary Undersurface Tool, or PLUTO), to be deployed by the arm. PLUTO had a compressed spring mechanism designed to enable it to move across the surface at a rate of about 1 cm every 5 seconds and to burrow into the ground and collect a subsurface sample in a cavity in its tip. The mole was attached to the lander by a power cable which could be used as a winch to bring the sample back to the lander.
Considering for how cheaply this project was done for (about $120M), the fact it may have landed and survived (for the most) is very supprising.
Any console with Geometry Wars 2 as a launch title wins my vote.
Geometry Wars 1 was the best game I played on the Xbox, I simpled loved it. And the sequal is suppose to be good. If the Xbox 360 cost £100 I would buy one tomorrow just for that little gem!
It's not great, it makes your page invalid IIRC and it doesn't scale well.
Plus you can't highlight text and then carry on selecting text futher down the page, also right click custom menus don't appear (I have a search and open in new window etc... in my right click menu)
Simply having two screens is a big plus in itself, allowing for all the action to go uncluttered while the extra info is displayed on the secondary screen. Plus, I love how folding the thing instantly puts the game into sleep mode, which then makes for insanely fast "boot speed" when you take it back.
Yeah, I completly agree with you on those points, being able to use this on the train, and shut it at anytime without fear of losing your place or the battery dying is a big plus.
Although I find I do use the touchscreen for some games (like Advanced Wars) I find that for Mario DS and Metroid Prime its not very comfortable.
I bought a DS not expecting much and after a slow start I was alittle disappointed, but now I wish they would slow down on game releases because I can't complete them fast enough!
Plus when I show it to people at work, it's not to show them the touchscreen, it's to show them the awesomes games or online/muliplayer play. The touchscreen is just a tool to allow me to play games easier and it's a damn fine one at doing that. But it's far from the reason to go out and buy one of these things!
If this is true, then maybe appealing the slashdot users to keep an eye for new/interesting stories and not the latest article from their rss reader

From my undertanding, they also made them limit the Frequencies to those the US has/can block

I get 24,000kbps for £24/month in London.
In relatity the max you can get is slower but it does have 1,300kbps upload.

Because she gave birth to Beethoven.
What is all this shit about?
Lets say there is 60M people in this fine country, and 49M are law abiding.

The jams where caused when you typed over a certain speed (albeit a slow speed) so the "myth" does hold some truth.
They seem to have forgotten the space key?
Any keyboard without a big bar that either thumb can use to space will never take off in my book. But maybe the PDA market will like it

I like it that both their examples don't work :)
Check out MediaMonkey, Its what I have been using for years now, and it is really good.
What about using,
//error
... debug code ...
if(!waddstr())
{
}
but it's a bad example as its a function you can look up.
i would use:
if(!write_to_window())
{// Returned false, failed to write to window
}
as it's clear what is does and allows you to debug easier

It almost works, you can walk about but it quickly slows down and starts flashing?
The colours don't seem to load either.
