How can it be a news source when it doesn't have anyone out writing articles or doing research?
It's not a news source in a traditional sense, but a meta news source, containing a kind of "best of" of news which would be interesting to nerds (read the slashdot slogan on the top of the page). I don't have hours a day to go around half a dozens different news sites and I'm glad that something like slashdot exists.
Excuse my ignorance, but what is the Chewbacca defence?

Raining on your wedding day is ironic because it's ment to be good luck when it rains. In reality though rain is probably one of the last things you want happening on your wedding day, hence the irony.
I have no idea what the rest are about though:/

yup, you can download a debian package source and make your own.deb package with just the standard apt-get. just type:
apt-get source { package name }
which will get the package source. you can then fiddle with the compile time options, and then type this
dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -uc -b
and voila, a custom built deb package, all from source!
What's everyone's general opinion of the Windoze key?
love it, i bind all my apps to the windows keys, so i hardly ever use the menus built into window managers, and i know my key bindings won't conflict with anything:).
The original ergo keyboards [maybe from Microsoft, maybe not] had the keyboard elevation feet under the space bar causing the keyboard to get lower the farther away from you it got [qwerty/digits/function key rows]...this seemed natural. But then for some reason they switched and put the feet under the function keys lifting up the back of the keyboard causing your hands/wrists to bend in a awkward way. This seems very unnatural for the "natural" keyboard.
yeah, you're actually not ment to rest your wrists on the wrist rest while you type, you're only ment to use it to rest your wrist here between typing (common mistake), so yeah, elevating the front only made the problem worse (since more people would rest their wrists on it). (btw, i can vouch for this, the instant i stopped typeing with my wrists bolted to the table, my rsi went away).
elevating the back of the keyboard is a much better problem to the fix, cos you now can reach the top row better, and it's much harder to type with your wrist on the wrist rest. i guess it was just a way to get people who don't read the instruction manual to use the keyboard properely:).
BTW, a 60Hz wave needs almost 300 feet to develop into a wave... you can't hear it unless you are inside the sound field of the speaker (2X the diameter of the driven element)
this is also why people that put huge woofers in their trunk of their cars are pretty much un-educated wannabe's.
dude, have you ever listed to a sub in someone's car? i can definately tell you that you can hear the sound just as clearly from inside the car, than from outside.
IMHO, Palm and PocketPC are both competing in different markets. Comparing one with the other is like (excuse the cliche), comparing apples with bananas:).
If you want a lightweight, small, sexy looking fast loading organizer, get a palm.
If you want a desktop computer in your palm... then I guess PocketPC is where you'll be headed.
as much as the exclusion of the.xxx dissapoints me (due to the easy filtering of system admins at schools), who says that if you have a.xxx domain, you have to have a.kids domain?
the fact is, that if you have a.kids domain, you'd have something you had to police, but if you just have a.xxx domain (no policing required), and you'd get people who would be of age, and would want to access.xxx sites, a place where they could access with ease (and I think those evil corporations would like this).
anyway, if all goes well, you could still go to places like disney.com and expect to get kids safe content (unless some cracker was beging a real prick), and all you have to do is just block out.xxx sites (and hopefully get the majority of the porn sites off schools).
oh, and the guy who said it wasn't the internets job to decide morals for us.. I don't know a single race where it is right to show pornography to kids... someone prove me wrong?

I think you're forgetting the fact that we need trees to produce oxygen for us to live?
