The world's population is not "exploding". There are too many obstacles to that. You mentioned war (one of them). AIDS (and other diseases) is another. On the positive side, we are aware of the world's limited resources, so the population won't explode!
There are enough laws and means to discourage speeding: Speed traps, speed limits and on top of that, FINES. Moreover, there are more cars in UK than the country can handle - people are encouraged to use public transport.
This will be open for abuse. Can anyone think of a possible use of this feature?
"Medical treatment isn't free, no matter how much we'd like it to be. The reasons that these 'economically deficient' (nice euphemism for 'poor', by the way) regions can't afford treatments for diseases with known cures isn't because of patents, it's because these treatments actually cost money to produce!"
FYI medical treatment is free in all South African hospitals and clinics. Don't you coside SA to be an 'economically deficient' country???
There are two possibilities here; viz. either a new Dell machine comes pre-installed with "spyware" OR an ordinary user installs the spyware (accidentally or otherwise). If the latter is true, then Dell is not at fault.
However, it might be true that as part of some new marketing maneuver, new Dell machines come with some kind of spyware pre-installed. Obviosly they wouldn't want anyone to remove this. Has anyone tried to change the default home page that comes preset in a new Dell PC (in IE of course)??
AIDS cure will be found by 2006. Most probably by South Africa. Tests are in advanced stages (conducted by the University of Natal and the University of Cape Town) already.
Giving the poor guy a job (with some restrictive clauses) can really prove that this community is tight! To those (a lot I guess) who hate M$, here's the break you have been waiting for!
Wait, just wait a minute. I (as a South African - third world country) feel very much offended here! If a company decides to outsource, the following need to be met:
Standards must not be compromised
Company must save (most of the time), AND
Company needs to
PAY for the services
Another point that you need to bear in mind is that most third world countries import their hardware (and sometimes software) from developed countries, e.g. USA. Our Hardware is subject to the ocassional "crashes" just like yours. Not more, not less. Believe me, security is as much an issue here as it is there! The fact that I'm using slashdot ought to count for something!
What's your point: Are you feeling sorry for yourself because you are using OSS? If you envy Office system, get it (hope you'll keep up) and keep us employed. I forgot to mention: wait for the patches!!

How can one configure BGinfo to display updates info when one is using LSASS?
There's still Micro$oft!
You are second largest only in size. Are you bigger than, say JAPAN in tech? Don't think so. FYI, I'm South African.
ESR = Open Source, RMS = Free Software. Not the same thing! They don't even agree on most issues!
I'm just wodering.... Why does it take the US so long to go to the moon (again??) if it went there using sixties' technology?
What happens when one arrives earlier and leaves late?

They need your contributions/donations to make the events possible. How about donating "free beer"?
