    Sure step 5 of 12 might take way longer then the rest but at least it is honest. It also helps to tell the user what it is currently doing.

    Faraday cages aren't 100%

    Indeed, stick them in a closed sealed lead box. Preferably in a vaccuum to prevent signals being sent via sound waves! Nobody could cheat under those conditions!

    There must be serious flaws in HTTPS if they can decrypt the traffic for hosts that they don't control the certs for.

    I guess if Nokia controls both the proxy server and the mobile device then their implementation of HTTPS can be designed so that the mobile device trusts the fake cert on the proxy server.

    However, just handing out grants is the wrong approach . It would be much better to set out the goals and offer specific awards for achieving them.

    The goal in this case is to obtain materials. And the reward is money. So you're suggesting that we offer money in exchange for rare earth materials. That's called buying it. We do that already and it's expensive. I think funding research is a good idea in this case!

    expectations for the controller where the company wants something that's more high precision than anything else out there at the moment

    I still remember with bitter disappointment the day I discovered that the 30cm on one edge of my ruler didn't exactly line up with the 15" on the other side after all.

    Why would you be disappointed? They should be out by approximately three inches!
