I've got a Rio Nitrus. Rio doesn't spend a whole lot on marketing, using word of mouth primarily. The Nitrus is great, holding close to thrity albums, depending on bitrate, and plays MP3 as well as WMV formats. The syncing software is quite good, IMHO. The device's form factor is far superior to any iPod, being smaller, sleeker, and less intrusive, which more than makes up for the smaller capacity.
there is, just not on linux. Check out bitComet, if you have some form of Windows. Azureus is a textbook example of why Java blows. There is only one thing Java is good at, and that is cros-platform "binaries." Oh, and hogging resources.
There is at least one decent linux BT client, but it runs ina terminal window. I cannot recall the name, and conveniently removed it with the rest of the dross the last install:doh:
When one decides they need a bridge, they go to the people who build bridges and make a request. The bridge builders work out a design, determine the time frame for completion, and then try to stay on schedule.
When one decides they need a software project, they go to people who build software, and tell them they need X package by next Saturday. The software builders work out a design, determine the neccessary manpower to comlete the project by next Sarutday, based on the myth that 2 people can accomplish as much as one, in half the time.
One main difference between bridge builders and software builders is that bridge builders know they cannot just throw bodies at a project and halve construction time. Another is that to a certain, greater degree, bridge builders are not forced to accept a client's time frame - Time To Market is not an over-riding factor.
really. Then how in the hell do they find the bird feeder? Or the seeds therein?
While you may have heard that the human eye needs to move to "update" what you see, you heard an ignorant spewing nonsense. Your eyes sense light, and your brain interprets the pattern. When you "see" a car, it is a pattern of light and color that lets your brain recognize it as a car. Whether the car is moving or not is immaterial. Whether your eyes are moving or not is of limited importance (read: none).
Some frogs will apparently ignore flies that are motionless, and this has led to a belief that they cannot "see" the fly unless it is moving. What is more likely is the frog does not want to eat a dead fly, and only identifies moving flies as "food."
Seriously, as long as linux uses an X windowing system of any kind, it is going to suck for FPS gaming, and many other graphics-intensive games.
The heavy overhead of running a separate windowing server is always going o kick linux in the ass when it comes to gaming. Why fight it? You don't see slashdotters insisting everyone drive schoolbuses, so why would everyone want a dedicated multi-user environment on their desktop? Boggles the mind.
you are being either facetious, or are a liar. In subzero temperatures, your fingers get painfully cold in just a few moments. You need more than just a warm coat to survive outside for any length of time, much less be comfortable. It is below zero outside as I type here, and very uncomfortable if not properly protected..
The reason more people succumb to hypothermia at ~40-45F (if that statement is actually true) is because those temperatures are much more prevalent, and frequently occur in the evening of an otherwise warm day. Not many people are caught by surprise by subzero temps, but it is easy to go out hiking on a 65-70F day, get into trouble, and succumb to a cool night. Humidity has nothing to do with it.
means two distinct forces cancelling out? How is it that the abscence of supporing data proves the validity of two theories? I would rather venture to guess that the abscence of proof for global warming means only that there is no proof of global warming. How could one draw the conclusion that there must be some other force "hiding" the effects of global warming? I say giant three-headed aliens are living among us. The fact that we can't see them merely proves they are invisible, duh.
well, why not beat up on nuns while you are at it. WTF bother a bunch of scientists, anyway? It isn't like you are "sticking it to the man." Why doesn't everyone in the US carry a sidearm? Are they stupid for not realizing anyone with a stick and hold them up?
If you read the/. blurb alone, you'd know that it was left "open" on purpose. You might have a point if they told everyone to get crackin', but instead, it was quietly left AVAILABLE. I know people who don't lock their door, because they are confident that their neighbors aren't theives. If you prove them wrong, does that make them dumb?
that's a load of BS. Having explained how ports work to a coworker witha Masters in CompSci, I am not impressed by the ability of degreed individuals to do anything. All the degree shows is they finished college, despite the tedious requirements. Sure, it may imply they have been exposed to the concepts important to the job, but expecting a college grad to magically make things better by their presence is asking a little much.
Ask anyone out of school for a few years whether they learned more inschool or on the job, if you want to know if experience or certificates are more valuable.
saying fuck and shit a moral imperitive? Didn't these people know the show was being made for TELEVISION, not movie theaters? Whining that you cannot swear on television in 2004 is kind of behind the game, isn't it? Since when has it been acceptable to say those words on broadcast television?
I have no love for the current administration, but I also am aware that Mr Dreyfuss could probably pay these fines and call it the cost of doing business if he so chose. Since we have the freedom to bitch about our gov't in the US, he has every right to complain, but I don't think he is "in the right."
Spam is spam, no matter if it comes from Yahoo, Hotmail, or Google. Personally, I could care less if I missed out on "The greatest innovation of our time!" I am perfectly willing to be the only kid on the block without gmail - no skin off my nose since I don't need what they are offering. Keep it out of my inbox, please.
to dispute points made by Ken Brown. The AdTI is nothing more than a conservative "think tank," which means they come up with ideas, some of which, or all, are not worth the paper they are printed on.
Devoting any time to dispute the Brown POS is foolish, given the place it comes rom. One needs to merely read a few paragraphs to determine that the writers have no interest in the truth, but see themselves as some sort of policy makers, twisting facts and making unsupported statements purely for the benefit of what they see as "their" society. A little too much Socrates, and not enough hemlock, I think.
Yahoo News = Sensationalist Rag, i.e National Enquirer, et al. Yahoo News posts anything, the vreacity or legitimacy of an article is not a concern for them - integrity is not a concept over there. Why is anything found on Yahoo News posted on slashdot? That is like debating whether Aliens is based ona true story:/
Hello? You suggest it isn't all or nothing, then proceed to say it is a choice between 90% being able to use it, and 100% not? Isn't that pretty damn close to an all-or-nothing proposition?
We are not idiots. If an ISP has machinery overwhelmed by traffic, we all are restricted. Is the solution to limit the traffic from any one user? It seems so, except that if every PC in the USA sent a packet to you at the same time, your ISP and you would find the situation rather untenable. The application or port that sent the packet would not be relevant. The traffic from any one user would not be a red flag.
Without analyzing every packet sent, there is no magic bullet. The best anyone can do is attempt to mitigate damage as it threatens. Suggesting that ISPs become the traffic cops of the internet just means I can sue them when my network goes down when you and your buddies spam me. It protects the offenders, and doesn't do shit for the victims or anyone else.
Stop pretending you have solutions, and just put forth your ideas as potential solutions. No-one should flame you if you ask if maybe there is some way that is better than the status quo, but insinuating that people who don't agree with you are ignorant is not really productive.
here who think viruses and worms affect everyone but the infected?
If you can't protect yourself from malicious softaware, how useful is your pirated OS?
Yeah, I fear so much from all the unpatched Windows OS's. When I obtain a crack for something, I fully expect to have to consent to infection. I then disinfect, which is not that hard, considering I visit MS frequently to get the latest patches. If you are stupid, and use a pirated OS, and then download cracks all the time, and your PC ceases to function as a labor-saving device, I have little pity.
I would do as MS is doing - you steal my stuff, FU. MS works for their customers, and should not spend one cent of my license fee supporting the a$$ who stole the product. Since I update my OS regularly, use a firewall, and know what the fuck I am doing, why do I care if Khalib Mostowkavski got his XP from Xhing-Shou or MS? If half of China grinds to a halt because MS doesn't patch stolen OS's, well, I guess that just shows China how stupid they are, for thinking they can rip off the rest of the world indefinitely with no consequences, huh?
only idiots pay for ring tones. there are plenty of places to get them free, and if the idiots would only spend two minutes to find them, the pay sites would evaporate, but instead, they prey on idiots.
I have a tried and true method for increasing brain capacity. It has been practiced for thousands of years, and proven time and again to work. It is called "practice."
If you have problems doing math in your head, start doing simple math every time you buy something. Add up the price of your items, rounding up or down as you go, to arrive at an estimate of your total. Check it at the checkout counter. You will find the process gets easier the more you do it. You can stop rounding the prices, and start keeping track of cents, and pretty soon, calculating tax in your head. To many people, this is a "magic" ability, but really, it is simply a learned ability. Not many people were born able to talk, but somehow most of us learn how to parse a sentence without even thinking about it, regardless of our IQ test score.
If you spend any time exercising your brain, it will develop. Muscle control can be learned, reflexes can be improved, mathmatical ability can be enhanced, linguistic ability can improve. All these things are possible, and are the basis of modern educational systems.
Why one would think that the ability to hold multiple concepts in mind at once is a fixed quality is beyond me. No drugs are needed to enhance this ability, one just needs to exercise it. Of course, this line of thought begs the question: "Are those we consider the smartest people really gifted with innate abilities, or are they just exercising their brain more effectively than some of us?" I would say a little of each, but I may be biased:shrug:
Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly is wrong with a religious group publishing a game, vresus a book or video? Who is really going to be "tricked" into becoming Amish because of a video game?
Is it me, or did you just say that was 20 years ago? Hardly "religion vs. games" these days, now is it? And let's define "religion." Some conservative Protestant sects protest anything that is not conservative or self-serving. Hardly a great example to support the "religion hates games" argument.

compromise. Word of the day in gaming hardware.
isn't that the fake news site? The one that makes stuff up or fabricates details to make "news" more interesting?

Can the woman with tuberculosis shut off the source of trouble? If so, then your analogy is 100% correct.

I write software, and while it can be cold comfort, people using my software is far better than no-one using it, regardless of my finacial standing.
