So this and 15 other high school students have been able to achieve what no other scientist in the world has been able to achieve to date? Hmmm.

    Good thing I saw this article, THEN looked at my pending updates... I had just set up my new computer with Win7 64bit yesterday... and of course had tons of updates to do... Wonder why it stayed in the list even after I refreshed if there's such an issue with it?

    Actually, "within 0.25 AU" puts them too close to their star to be habitable... i.e. not in the goldilocks zone :( PS 1 A.U. is the distance of the Earth to the Sun, just in case you didn't/don't know.

    "laser links like this one will be able to transmit data across huge distances through the universe" I think they mean "through the solar system"... laser wouldn't be very efficient "through the universe"... I think we may have other means of communication by the time we need to think about distances that vast.

    in MA there is an economy plan. $25/mo for 384kbps upload/download. Not sure why they skimp so much on the download and keep the upload speed the same as regular plans, but there it is. Ok if you just do some email and surf, but not so good if you have VOIP or do a lot of downloading. It's an unadvertised plan, you have to call them to get it. I saw it when they did a mailing about some rate changes, and listed all their plans.

If you are on an "always-on" Internet connection, we strongly advise you to consider using a more complex antivirus solution." Sounds like it's not quite ready for mainstream if you have a Broadband connection.... tsk tsk its the 21st century already!

    This is a good site to check your relative security: http://www.speedguide.net/scan.php They also have a speed test if you are curious what your actual download speeds are. Try it several times to get an average. The time of day definitely makes a difference!

    Am I the only one who would rather pay less for a slower broadband line? I pay ~$43/mo through Comcast (US) for a cable modem with 4Mbps download. I don't hardly ever need this much.

    If they (or someone else) would provide an 'economy' package, I'd be the first to sign up. It would be handy to be able to 'crank it up' when needed (now I'm dreaming), but for day to day use, I could get by quite happily with 20% of the current bandwidth.

    Just my .02 (US$)

    The DVD started the install, found the empty partition I had made available, then was unable to 'see the CD' in order to install. In the process it trashed my partition tables, among other things. Luckily it was all recoverable. Guess I wont be installing this any time soon.

    Dream on.... no such 'meal ticket' I got laid off in Sept 2002 from a government based secret clearance job... spent 14 months unemployed, finally took a shitty phone support job at 30% less than I was making just to pay bills because my unemployment benefits were running out. The job situation isnt getting better... the 'new jobs' are people doing just what I did so they can get by.
