This type of thing never works, it just makes the people who already believe in this hunker down because now they believe it's an even bigger conspiracy. If you want to get people to stop believing in this, just make a pro-vaccine movie. Only you don't fill in full of scientists, reason and logic. Go film some of the anti-vaxxers whose children got sick with perfectly preventable diseases. Make sure to really capture the suffering of those poor children and the misery of the dumb-fuck parents. Go to the corners of the earth where polio still exists to show them the horrors of that. I think that will get their attention.
Its not about stopping people who believe in this, its about stopping their beliefs spreading to others.... you know, like this.... thing.... on the tip of my tongue. Starts with v.
This isnt about issues with the scientific method. Intellectually honest scientists dont care about how studys/experiments turn out. They have no vested interest, or sought outcome. However this article is not about honest scientists at all, its about well known frauds who found that their results didnt match their beliefs, and so they made up an excuse for why.
If I was making a game of the size and complexity of GTA4, I would at least get some experience on the platforms first, and even if I didnt... id get first party devs in to help. The only one to blame for delays is Rockstars stupidity.
Im guessing becuase devlopers actually pay attention to whats going rather than listening to the random spewing from forums. PS3s selling ahead of the PS1 PS2 and 360 curve, their machine is stable, and thanks to bluray is going to be a great asset to the MP and Sandbox games of the future (something which Rockstar in invested in).
Comes down to this, Rockstar has been working with sony since the PS1, all the GTAs, the vast majority of their side projects are all on sony platforms. GTA4 however, Rockstar got it ready to soon, there simply isnt enough units on either platform to maintain the sales they want for it so its going multi-platform, something Rockstar had told sony. However, like many of the companies who've been working with Sony all this time, when it came time for a new project, they continued on with sony. The new game is supposed to be based around rockstar trying to make the ultimate game for PS3, using BD and Cell as best they can, so could be interesting. There is 3 more Sony press confs/events this year so we may hear more then, or it might be next year or the year after when someones ready to talk on it.
Actualy the PS2 was panned as a failure due to low sales and few games and was predicted to be destroyed by the faster Xbox. This is the sorta thing people forget, while the PS1 was an unknown the PS2 was torn to shreds by the gaming "media" and community as a joke. They said oh its to hard to code for, no-one will release games for it, its to expensive, Why include a DVD drive which will just raise the price? Sound familiar?
Its true, the PS2 did have low sales the first few years, tho the few games thing as now was wrong. PS3 gets around 8 titles a month like all the other consoles. However, it was when the big lineup of games hit around christmas where sales started to jump. A new GT here, a new Ratchet there, a new SOCOM there and sales picked up. Sony takes its time getting things setup, so we wont know if the PS3 will be a hit or miss for some time.
Having backups on the 360 makes sense, it has issues with its drive but the PS3 has hardcoat on its disks so they wont scratch as easy. But are you backing them up for other reasons? Losing the disk etc?
Outsold in the US, boohoo. Just had one of its best weeks in Europe. Saying a console is doomed several months in is insane. Sure they said it for the PS1 and PS2 but it didnt happen. Will it happen this time? Maybe... but considering PS3 is already leading the 360 in some countries makes me think otherwise... for the moment at least.
If you compare sales per week for the PS1 PS2 and PS3, PS3 is already outselling the PS1 by 2-3x and its just a 100,000 units or so behind the PS2. Of course, people on forums and such have a selective memory.... they just choose to block all this out.
GTA4 is smaller than SA in land used but is much larger is the terms of textures, models, sound, shaders, and such, not to mention the addition of multiplayer.
All games are compressed, and have been since the 80s. With every generation of console, games have increased in size by about 4x, so why wouldnt it for this generation?
It comes down to this. Any issues devs have with the PS3 can be fixed with time as they're software based, issues on the 360 require hardware, and thats a problem. GTA4 isnt the only game strugling with the 360, you'll notice many highend EA projects have now moved from 360 to PS3 due to the space and processing issues. Miscrosoft knew these issues would come up when they decided to drop HDDVD internaly and go for the early start to try and get one up on Sony.
No, I wasnt. In places like Australia, PS3 is doing well in the charts, often with 2 titles in the top 3. Almost a million people bought PS3s in March alone.
Well Resistance was #1 title across all platforms in europe, and Motorstorm was #5 in US retail charts, seems someones playing those games, probably along with Virtua Fighter 5.
PS3 owners can set F@H and other Dist apps due later on to run any time to unit is idle, be it for 10 mins or constant. Becuase it only takes around 8 hours (1.0) to crunch a unit they dont need to leave it on as long to do the same work as a PC would so 10 mins here and there would add up quickly.

Europe it would seem, it is the #1 selling console there this week.
What Epic actually said is they're going to get the 2 code bases stable first, solve any cheating issues then work on it.

Those numbers are bogus, they're just having fun with the whole 13 thing.
As usual people on slashdot post to things out of context, Al Gores internet sucks.
From day 1, not this year. Its jut a glimpse to show how all the PS consoles do bad to start and why saying they're doomed is silly for now.

Take a look around for some recent interviews or something from EA, youll probably find something there.
GTA4 is smaller than SA in land used but is much larger is the terms of textures, models, sound, shaders, and such, not to mention the addition of multiplayer.
BD loadtimes are only an issue if the game doesnt use HD caching, but Im betting GTA4 will given its a sandbox game.

Wardevil is one of the more recent ones.

The Cell has a single CPU core but has multiple units which do the hard yards. Its all counted as a single CPU, as it is.
Probably becuase its been getting around 7-8 games a month since release, same as the 360 does.
