I'm sorry, whats dishonest about breaking copyright law for no personal financial gain? The artist made something to be looked at. I am looking at it. Theres nothing dishonest or honest about it. I guess honesty would mean not lying if im ever faced with persecution, which i would gladly do. I preserve culture from evil corporations.
And i will *never* fund the industry. They are the ones that have no honour. I live an honourable life, I don't steal. I do however infringe peoples copyright. If it brings the global economy to its knees faster than wars, profiteering or the american federal reserve, then i'll admit defeat and eat my hat as the cause of all the worlds financial problems. Untill then i hurt no one and get a tiny bit of entertainment to make this world just a tiny bit more liveable.

Well since you asked so nicely i will tell you. Bittorrent works this way. As long as you have a decent client that keeps some kind of ratios, honesty would be uploading to others as much as your downloading. Last time i checked, the bittorrent market was doing just fine sustaining itself this way.
You just have to get used to them. You can see alot more with those bulbs at lower wattages. The light looks cleaner, like im living in a giant grow house or the sun. Its very pure. Yellowy lights are... quaint.
Nice thinking inside the box there.. Here is what they should do 1) make all art copyrights last 7 years. 2) release all music/film / etc from greater than 7 years ago into public domain.
The drug companies dont seem to have a problem making billions of dollars on 7 year expiring patents.
This is a short term solution. Ideally, we would live in a world where we dont need to preserve artificial scarcity but we will probably have to wait for nano forges for that. Humans expressing themselves through art will not end because no one pays for it. Not to claim art, but these comments here are proof of that. No one is paying me to write on this fourm and yet I do it anyways. An artist needs to create as a slashdot poster needs to comment.
So, do you work for that company? Or is someone paying you $350 dollars a month to post that "press release" to various blogs and news sites?
Not that i really care, as as long as you can see the screen you can take a screen shot of it. And considering that the end user will probably have to download some sort of application to use this drm "service", it won't be widely adopted and it will fail as a product.
Guerrilla marketing just really pisses me off and i'd call out anyone who does it.

I watched it a few days ago and thought it was well done. The video is a bit too crisp (i dont like seeing pasty people that close up) so ill give you that, but I just attributed that to the overquality of their camera and rip. It was nice and gritty, homebrew.. and thats what the kids like these days. Big studios pay big bucks to "indieize" their films down to a level that looks like this. As for the scope and context of the film, no one said they were going to analyze worldwide piracy. This movie was about swedish piracy and the pirate bay. They acurately covered that event, much more indepthly than any other article or pictures that iv'e seen.
There are plenty of homebrew movies that i find high class but you might object to. Purepwnage being one of the best i can think of. And what about the soundtrack to this film? it was killer! They even had some quality edits of old unrelated footage. That to me makes a good movie. It's no deadwood, but it wasnt trying to be.

Why would a film maker make a documentary if he wasn't trying to say something with it? Conversely, would you believe a documetnary where the author didnt come to some loose conclusion at the end? It would look like the film maker was intellectually lazy not drawing enough conclusions from his research.

Did anyone actually read the article? It doesnt read like an interview at all. After reading the first paragraph, i knew that this was going to be simplified down to the level of "clueless n00b". I tried to skim and read ahead, but couldnt find anything but a few quotes spliced in here and there. Im not going to read 4 pages of gold farming 101, so can someone actually reprint the interview here? I simply couldn't find it.
The sandisk sansa (i forget the model number its 2gig) has a switch in the battery compartment that switches the filesystem between janus and fat32 (i guess). The most notible difference i have seen is with janus turned on, windows sees it as a "portable music device" but with it turned off, its just like a regular harddrive. I keep mine switched off. Hopefully this switch is carried over to their other products like this one. I have no real complaints about the unit. "Depression is a disease.""countless people--whose brains are wired differently than you"
If people are naturally "wired differently", then how can the condition be a disease?
This kind of "diseasing" of things makes me very scared. What if someone after 50 years of hypothetical future war, decides that being peace loving is a "disease". All they would have to do is declare dissent as a desease and poof, youve changed the course of humanity from then on out. Or, equally as scary, what if in an ultra utopia the government decides that people shouldn't be agressive? If things like that are mostly found to be genetically based, do we engineer quality X out of society?
I'd prefer to leave all these things to nature and evolution to manage than the "well lets see what happens" scientists. Most SSRI's have been around for less than a generation. We did pretty well before them and I don't think we will die for not having them. The cost of having them however, could spell the end to diversity. I'm definately _for_ having the choice to do any drugs, if you think you need it, but dont call it a disease because its not.
I'm not sure exactly what the obvious answer to that question is, but personally id rather be depressed then strung out on meds all the time thinking im happy. Whenever i get depressed and lack the motivation to do something i NEED to be doing, i say the following in my head "This is happiness, get used to it". Works most times and lets me put aside the lack of motivation to get shit done in my life.
On a related note, i have had a few friends completely change, to the point where i did not like being around them any longer from being on various drugs for several years. One friend i know is a regular dexidrine (speed) Rx user. I think he takes 2 or 3 caps a day. Anyway, i'll never forget what he said to me when i asked him to stop taking the drugs: "I'm not sure which me is me anymore." Now thats a very scary thought that someone who was born into the world as is, considers them not themselves unless they are severely medicated everyday for the rest of their lives. This particular person was forced onto the drugs as well, through emotional coercion and to fit better into his family.
But i don't really buy into the whole "depression is a disease" paradigm any more than agression is a disease or pacificism. Depression can be a societal advantage, as i find it. For instance, I would not be able to acurately troubleshoot computers if I wasn't always looking for the worst case scenario, or imagining what horrible things could happen - no matter how remote. I also don't believe that real depression ever goes away. It can increase/decrease in intensity, but I personally think its impossible to be depressed for say, several weeks and then rebound and not need to take drugs after that. Its not the flu or mono, its the way your brain is wired.
We should be very careful. We do not know enough to start reprogramming peoples brains. It is more important for society to be diverse than to illeviate all suffering. "Oh brave new world with these people in it..." would be suggested reading here.
Most people in my office did not know anything about this movie other than it was (probably) a crappy horror/thriller. No one knew that it was an internet phenomenon. I had to explain to numerous people why i was so excited about what they thought was just another crappy summer movie. I also learned that most of my co workers dont watch the daily show and colbert ever! That was probably more shocking to me.
I did go see it with a friend of mine who hadn't heard the hype. He had just seen a bunch of comercials for it and likes brainless movies like that. I think this shows how out of touch with internet memes most people are. Almost all of the people had heard of craigslist though, so its not like they are living in caves without computers or the internet. An interesting experiment in moviemaking at least. The nudity was well done.

The only thing I read as a negative was how the iraqies *MAY* be jealous as they can't even operate cooking stoves -or whatever- while these soldiers get all the shiney. This is to be expected, isn't it?
