I've never been able to randomly open a combination lock. In highschool I would try all the time to do it. I call bs unless its like from the 70s or something when they made the locks differently.
There was a tech who originally broke the story about them monitoring internet traffic that did exactly that. He worked in the CO's where they installed the equipment, took photos, left his job and then bloged about it. I forget his name but he was certainly a patriot.
"Buy it, install iTunes, plug in the iPod, and start ripping or downloading music. I just don't see Windows Media Player as competing in that space"
Well it must be nice to ignore reality, and i am certainly not a microsoft apologist, but when i gave my neighbour itunes and also WMP10 he found WMP10 much more intuative. Granted, he knows almost nothing about computers and the knowledge he does have is all windows based, but everything you are describing, the "one click rip" type features, all work flawlessly. When he was using itunes he found it impossible to get things done.
Sure its just anecodtal evedence, but dont write off microsoft media player, and this zune right away. Personally i use winamp and use actual cd ripping programs to rip cds.
"They'll get them home, try to install them, not be able to get music to upload, or the thing will crash all the time, or their PCs won't be able to see it when it's plugged in. Pack it up, take it back, and just go spend the $300 on something that actually works."
Now your just trolling. I have to support microsoft products, so i know that they make some gay shit alot of the time, but prediciting failure at this stage is basically you being a little applefanboi masturbating troll.
This has to be some kind of logical fallicy. "we wouldnt have believed 9/11 could happen, so anythings possible". Well no, the difference between hollywood and reality is "science". Does science think that this is possible or isnt? It's not anything is possible, because some things definately arent. From what i understand, there weren't even any explosive materials, plane tickets or passports found in these peoples posession! Thoughtcrimes are what they were arrested for. Feel free to correct me if im wrong about this because I have read so many conflicting articles, its hard to know what to make of it.
Why would you have to get other people to not watch tv? Is your watercooler chat about survivor really that important?
I stopped buying cable years ago and just download comerical free content from the internets. Sure you have to watch everything a day or so behind regular tv, but if you download every day, then it is just like having a tv to watch for an hour or two a night. Plus no commercials.
I really have no idea why you would think that what works for me should have to work for everyone or i shouldn't even bother. Why do you think that?
"In ten years, after this things turned gradually out to be alright really, those people will be up against the "Next Horrible Stuff That Instills Pervesity Inside Our Innocent Children(tm)"."
"Don't ever believe, in this age of media and relative concentration of power that the actions of the US are driven by the opinions of its citizens at large. It's very much the other way around; citizens are the played, not the players."
I maybe would have baught that, but you RE ELECTED bush. RE-ELECTED. Maybe you all are the played but as far as most people of the world are concerned, after that election, you can go fuck yourselves. If a victim constantly re-elects to be a victim, then I lose alot of sympathy for that victim. You've made your bed haven't you.
Well if you consider that 8 or 9 years ago, this same type of thing was happening in UO, i'd say the articles a bit late. The funniest part about this is whenever i hear someone say "i got haxed!!!", the first thing i always say to them is "who did you tell your password to?". I would say 95% of all cases of this i have heard of in various games has been user error. Trust NO ONE. I've never given my password to anyone, except people i can beat down in real life, and coincidentally I have never had a game account hacked.
Its all user error. There is no "Security Risks" to mmo players any more theres a security risk to email users that give out their hotmail passwords.
Thats one of the most insightful things ive ever read on slashdot. very zen. I couldn't find the source, or anything similar, on google so i guess its all you. If you did get it from somewhere please post.
"Though I may be reviled for saying so, this paragraph contains quite a bit of truth to it. In fact, I would take it one step further. Killing is not only the purpose of the individuals of this group, it forms the entire basis of the group's existence as a whole. They don't care who they kill, or when they kill, or even why they kill. Just look at the plethora of excuses they offer for their continued insistance on waging war against everyone else. It doesn't matter what we do; no matter how many times we give in, they'll just resort to another excuse. Granted, some of their "reasoning" has legitimate roots, but they've taken those roots and distorted them to suit their purposes--namely indiscriminate killing."
Are you talking about the US military? the american people? al queada? terrorists? isreal? video game players? seriously, i cant tell.
"The media has already handcuffed them with the help of paticular interest groups from doing what is truly effective, profiling. So whats left? Simple, inconvienence EVERYONE. After all its "only fair". Hence my mother gets harrased trying to board flights with her dog. One day some of ya'll are going to grow up and realize that "the man" isn't out to get you. He is out to get the bad guy and the real problem is that the most effective ways are denied to him because of political correctness."
I dont think anyone was arguing that totalitarianism wasnt more efficient...
The team further found evidence that CTVT has adapted to evade dogs' immune responses. Otherwise, the unrelated tumor tissue "ought to be rejected," Murgia said.
Interestingly, he added, most dogs infected with CTVT develop a tumor that then regresses several months later and disappears.
"It looks like there is an aggressive phase of growth as the foreign tumor initially isn't recognized by the immune system," Murgia said. "In the long run, the immune system gets the better of it."
"I agree. However: if I'm going to pay for your hospitalization.."
kindly perform the following. 1) Ban TV as people sit on their asses instead of exercising, and write into law that the president must come on tv every day to lead the daily exercise programme. 2) Ban all fast food. (except perhaps taco bell) 3) Ban cars as thats a leading cause of death (and i dont have one). 4) Ban swearing and anger, as they cause people to get hurt.
so once all that is done look around. you are now living in the demolition man universe. oh fuck! "CRABPEOPLE, You have been fined one credit for a violation of the verbal morality statute"
" We are fighting people who think it is the will of Allah to convert you to Islam, make you submit as a Dhimmi, or kill you. "
Dont you think thats what they think about being converted to american, western ideals? America does a shit-ton of its own killing so i really dont see the difference. make you submit to the almighty dollar, capitalism and materialism. American ideals are no less "religious" than islamic ideals. Both want to make you 'right' at the barrel of a gun, or explosion of a bomb.
Its simple. Hes using the corporate VLK. Microsoft would _never_ damage its corporate customers by subjecting them to WGA. I thought it was well known that corporate versions of things (windows, symantec) are vastly superior and thusly are the most heavily pirated. Always go for a pirated corp copy over a real one. Those leet software pirates know how to do the job right, the first time.
"Project Gutenberg caused probably the first ever spam,"
Close but incorrect. I believe it was an add for some kind of seminar a guy was giving on the west coast. He was from the east coast and had no contacts to sell this product in the west so he manually typed in like hundreds of addresses. I dont know if i can find a link but i remember reading about it.
Ok aparently googling for "first spam ever" yields this article:
"The sender is identified as Gary Thuerk, an aggressive DEC marketer who thought Arpanet users would find it cool that DEC had integrated Arpanet protocol support directly into the new DEC-20 and TOPS-20 OS. I spoke with him to get his reflections on the event.
DEC was mostly an east coast company, and he had lots of contacts on the east coast to push the new Dec-20 to customers there. But with less presence on the west coast, he wanted to hold some open houses and reach all the people there. In those days, there was a printed directory of all people on the Arpanet. Gary spoke to his technical associate, and arranged to have all the addresses in the directory on the west coast typed in, and then added some customer contacts in other locations, including people at ARPA headquarters who did not, according to Thuerk, complain.
The engineer, Carl Gartley, was an early employee at DEC who had been called in to help with promoting the new Decsystem-20. They worked on the message for a few days, going through a few rewrites. Finally, on May 3, Gartley logged on to Gary's account to send the mail. "
so there you go. First spam May 3, 1978. Theres a reply to it from RMS too (his inital reaction was pro spam heh).
Was there a hero quest booth? that game owned.

It is, but you have to be in a uniform.

Excelent post! Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go return some videotapes.
