because toys and space travel have sooo much in common 20 million dollars doesn't even come out to 1 cent per person in this country and besides the rich are the only ones that really pay income taxes in this country. I believe the percentages are around the top 5% of income earners pay over 50% of all of the taxes. Space travel currently has no economic return. The only way to jumpstart it is to create an incentive to do this. That's why the x-prize exists. Once a company can actually succefully send a large craft into space cheaply, efficiently, and with a near perfect success rate it will then begin to turn a profit and not need the government incentive. Hell currently the government is paying for amtrack to keep running trains because it no longer can create any real revenue. Send your complaints towards them.

These shell replacements do not change the look of the windows itself so it's not an exact relation to X11 window managers but it does change the windows interface to whatever you want. It is a feature of windows that has existed since windows 3.1. In windows 9x you could change the shell back to what 3.1 had and use that (I don't know why you would though). They kept the functionality in windows nt line in case they ever want to replace explorer.exe I would guess.

It is somewhat safe but not a guaruanteed. I have never had it totally kill my windows. If it doesn't work you can hit ctrl-alt-delete and run explorer to get your normal windows back. I have found that these shell replacements can make windows a lot better but they are not for everyone. They take a lot of work to get setup.

You can get said shell replacements on http://www.shellfront.org/ Also you can get a lot of themes at www.wincustomize.com i think.

    Have a happy shell replacing!

You call up regedit and change the shell DWORD from explorer.exe to whatever shell you want such as litestep. You have just as much choice in windows as linux for window managers (shells). They are just not the same choice. Also they come with the same pains as linux window managers have for setting up. Before you counter me with the litestep sucks arguement, I will use a common linux arguement said to me: program one yourself. Lastly if you want to change the look of the individual windows, use windows blinds on top of that. You can make windows look completely different.

Yay, they are finally doing something to curb at least some of the spam. Hopefully this will work well. Another implementation idea is to make a user of an email account pay $.05 per email for every email over a set limit (on a per month basis). For example if a spammer sends out a spam to 20,000 people he would have to pay nearly $1000 just to do that which would make the spam model not worth it. This might cause some issues with businesses doing legitimate mail but I'm sure somebody has some thoughts on how to fix this idea.

Ok, let's try a different perspective. If you copy the program then the author is going to make less money off of it. If you weren't going to buy it anyways then you should learn to live without the program. It is illegal to copy a program to somebody else's computer (I would agree to immediate family being exempt) without paying for it if it is a program that doesn't allow redistrobution.

The reason that people prefer the BSD license is that people aren't going to have to fear using a library under the BSD license in their code. I've seen way to many people use GPL libraries and then having tons of people immediatly demand that the whole program be released under the GPL. As a programmer this disgusts me and will keep me from ever writing a real program for linux (with the exception of the ones for class).
