Please understand: a mac theme is not equal to really using a mac. I always liked to play around with my system, I liked having os/2 for my bbs and I liked linux 1.2.8, too. And I'm sure I'm able to force any linux to do exactly as I want to. But I have to tell you this: I really grew tired of doing so. Why do I have to tinker with my settings to make all things work? Why do I have to live with either fancy, or fast, or easy desktop environments? I made the choice for osx 3 years ago and I don't regret a single day. They have some pretty smart people working at apple and if you start to admit their leadership in development you'll be happy to shell out the next 130 bucks for an even better product.
I really cannot decide if you try to be funny or just are a troll...
It's always a question of distributing resources (p.e. money, time) to the different tasks a society is about to fulfill. The amount of money spent on research is a bad joke. If all people could come to an agreement to stop development in all aspects a huge amount of money could be freed. We'd just build the things people need. And then? No development means a step back. Living in a world full of decay and in a declining society isn't exactly what I'd call a bright future. Change is natural to Humankind and we should try do have enough possible futures so that we can chose the right one.
I don't like hungry children in our streets, too, but I am more concerned with the amount of money the US is dumping into its military. And the increasing corruption in the western world. This is serious money that doesn't really help anyone, so stop bitching about peanuts like money for seti and basic research and rather write a letter to a politician of your choice.
Well if Palm doesn't care about how I sync my device with my mac, I surely know that a P800 from Sony Ericsson p.e. does.
Smart move indeed, same as in: I'll never look back.
I'm from germany. I've always liked the maglev/transrapid and I really like the fast normal trains (ICE/TGV). But I hope the chinese know that in order to let these trains reach their high speeds you have to build modern tracks. If you put a fast train on a 100year old track, you will never be able to reach 300km/h. And if you intend to use the existing tracks, probably along with freight-trains and normal slow trains, you won't reach them either. In france the TGV is so fast, because it has its own sperate track system and because the french don't give a f*ck on the people living along those tracks.
I really liked them talking about increasing 'mind share' in the interview, because when I had to set up a new website for my local political party youth organization, the hardest part was convincing people that plone is exactly what we wanted - they never heard of it and it takes quite some time to explain the whole thing to people that aren't geeks at all.
what we wanted was:
something with decent security - this rules out phpnuke
something that is standard compliant, xhtml and the stuff
something that is once set up and than easily managable by joe doe
something that serves as a depository for information and relates the information to other relevant information
something that seperates content and markup, plone1 does this halfway decent
Plone fit the bill and I think we can be quite happy how well it works, if you never tried it out: take the time and toy around with it a bit. The learning curve is a bit steep at the beginning (at least for the person that sets the whole thing up), but afterwards it is really a beautiful piece of software.
Time for you karma whores: could you tell me (and the unwashed masses lingering around here) what 'oracle applications' we'd want to run from our Moz? What do I miss if I have never ever thought on doing so?
you know what you are doing. DON'T do modifications you read on a japanese weblog from 2001 - unless you exactly know what they are doing and if it is possible or not.
Remember to get the service manual (ibk-usb2.pdf on the web), get the right torx and philipps screwdrivers and take your time. The ibook is a bitch to open, last week I exchanged the harddrive (10Gb -> 60Gb) and it took me over 3 hours. It isn't really complicated mechanically, but you definitely have to take your time.
You really need to find out what particular 'backlight'-problem you have got. Use the apple-discussion forms for your research. If it is just a pierced cable I'd take a try and fix it with ordinary laptop-replacement parts (soldering-skills required). If you have indication that some other part is defect, you'd better get an intact part from ebay. I've seen complete screen assemblies sell for 120 euros and cables for much less (complete screen cables for 30e).
Let me repeat: if you know what will cure your particular problem, it just boils down to get the parts and be careful with your disassembly.
I wonder why noone else mentioned it, but I feel my iBook is yesterday's answer to tomorrow's 'iPod-Killer'. It already has enough storage space, plays Music and videos and the most important part: it has a decent display. Everything below 12" is a bad joke - do YOU want to watch LOTR on some tiny 4" screen?
but I had the impression that my fido-setup on os/2 handled hundreds of thousands of messages a lot faster than my current box does with email, and this while the processor-speed incresed by a factor of 10 and the memory by a factor of 50...
aaah, I really liked fido-technology:)
but the iron is not going to get heavier on its way to the core. As far as I can remember the gravity that the iron feels is just the gravity from the sphere of mass below the iron, and so the thing should become lighter, regardless of its mass being the same.
I feel its main problem are the 14 pumps. I don't know how many those folks drink when 17/18 at age, but I cannot see why they would need the throughput of all those pumps.
Why not use one compressor that pushes the right amount of air into the bottles? So you would only need 1 compressor/pump and maybe a little pressure tank?
I would mod you up if I had any points:)
But when I did my first maths exam (I'm studying physics) I was told that if I fluke that 2x, I wouldn't be able to study another program that requires this particular maths exam (Higher Mathematics I-III). That covered chemistry, biology and several other programs. I could however study mathematics and then afterwards switch back to physics...
thats just a sidenote, perhaps the guys at the Prufungsamt were totally wrong:)
Great posting, I wish I could mod you up further.
But wouldn't the teeine prevent the hd from going into sleep mode?
tell them that you know of one four-year-old who has been handling it daily for more than a year.
call me again when she decided to wipe his HD to install debian or gentoo from scratch. Oh what joy she had compiling her first kernel...
yeah - "netcraft confirmes..."

Well, in case the vorgons are about to build their intergalactic highway it may indeed be wise just to listen on the intergalactic channels.

If it were metal as in normal heatpipes you couldn't bend your fingers...

Isn't geekness just a culture where people worship technology. And from my experience they are very conservative in their way.
so there is no fundamental difference in my eyes and especially no cultural gap for the saudis.

you mean Intel Itaniums?
but the link to the project page is correct.

I don't know if it is the same in other languages, but german physicists often use the term pedestrian when you would rather say dumbasses or trolls.

so what options do OSX/*BSD/etc. have left for interoperability when MS decides to drop *FAT completely from windows?
I love your sig, it is even more true than your post :)
