please don't forget about that "section" window-menu that slashdot currently has. You know 'sectional display prefs.' where people can select what sections they want to filter out (or in).
btw, I like your design the most. And it works perfectly in galeon (1.3.20) browser, even the font scaling almost works! (which is rare because on most sites font scaling works terrible). Oh there is some issue with font scaling actually. look on the right - the green bar for "slashdot login" is not tall enough. The same with "slashdot poll".
to my surprise, sometimes, several sequential compilations of the same code (with the same flags, and everything) produced a different binary. Almost similiar size, but certainly different md5sums. Using g++.
oh, on my computer galeon uses firefox 1.5 as rendering backend. And it works too (but I didn't bother to check with dragging pictures around with mouse, just typing text).
But... but... why overcomplicate things by using Google Pages? Flickr is pretty badassed, and is geared directly towards what she's trying to do.
because it's just yet another darn different website. She already has gmail account, so she already has google pages. Why bother checking the alternatives when what she has works? And when she is leaving for a bus in four minutes?
Besides I didn't ever took time to check out flickr. But I've spend five minutes one month ago to play with google pages. Yes, I made a choice for her, she doesn't care for alternatives.
You should investigate your firefox installation. She is using debian sarge and galeon 1.3.20 (which uses firefox 1.0.x engine under the hood). Webpage editing worked flawlessly. Oh - she is using all that just because I installed it on her computer. Later she learned about firefox, but chosen galeon anyway.
I'm not using myspace, nor I ever will. But that reminds me of google pages.
Just today my wife complained that she had no easy way of publishing photos of our two small dughters (2 year old, and 1 month old) since I turned down my websever and never found time to bring it back up. Quick thought about google pages, and I logged her with her gmail account. She created a webpage with drag'n'drop in just three minutes and she was in hurry, because she was just leaving for a bus. Before she left I could give URL to some of my friends. I was amazed at how google pages were easy to use.
I'm not a fan of java, but imagine JVM programmed into such co-processor on the hardware level (just as it is capable to). I bet it will be a very interesting option for some people. Servers running on java, anyone?
But I'm a fan of neural networks, and I imagine that if such coprocessor was programmed exactly to perform NN tasks it could bring "brain simulation" a few steps closer - especially if many such coprocessors were put into the system.
oh, he said something about linux, I wonder what's that? Let me try and check this (types linux.com in browser). Hmm it's just some typo, maybe I haven't heard him clearly, oh well...
like one month I was working a lot with gimp, producing lots of.xcf files. Then ROX has thumbnail preview (.pdf.ps.avi , etc....), but preview for.xcf was missing. It took me just few hours, to write a script and hook it to ROX, so that I got working preview for gimp's.xcf files (now it became a part of ROX). Maybe at some day in the future I'll make a thumbnail preview for AutoCAD's.dwg files (to scratch that itch). And that's it - Insanely extensive configurability.
Everytime I install (or recommend) linux for somebody I tell them to use KDE. I was using gnome till version 1.4, then it became insanely slow, and all my favourite features removed. So I had to switch. But also at that time my computer wasn't powerful enough for KDE, and to be honest I didn't like all that default KDE cluttering. Also my wife's computer wasn't good enough for KDE. So I had to search something better.
And I've found something far better for me (and my wife). But I'm not going to recommend it to novices - it requires some configuration tweaking, but after that it's my desktop environment nirvana - ROX + sawfish. Gets out of the way, no cluttering, configurable as nothing I've seen before, very lightweight.
Now I have a nice amd4400+ with 2GB ram (for scientific calculations;) and I'm not going to switch to KDE or anything else. My wife got also a new machine, and she didn't want to switch too. (Even though on other computers, like in the campus, she is using KDE).
so now, when ATI's bugfest drivers crash the computer, Novell is to blame?
it's Niagara T1 CPU, not Niagra.

always when I buy new ram I make a 36 hour memtest86 run. Then I have uptime of 100 days :)

oops I cannot see a linux download...
I was unaware of bluesecurity, looks like a nice idea to fight with spam, I think it's high time for me to join them.
Drizzt ;)

well actually with /etc/init.d/apache2 stop

She is not a techie
hey! I think it's skype, or something very similar. From their website there is a link to some videos, pick this one, scroll forward to 10:06.
Is it so difficult for the article submitter, to provide a link to the actual product ?

You can correct with Photoshop your bank account receipt, and that won't make you any richer.
But if you use GIMP you get richer! (by the price of photoshop)

of course I didn't RTFA. just tell me - did intel solve their problems with narrow pipeline to transfer data between multiple cores and RAM?
you know - they are bumping up RAM frequency, but still transfer is too low, because of that narrow throat in the middle.

this is the first time I used a tag crap, you can follow if you wish :)
