To sum up, one is an epic tale (or mythos), whereas the other is a children's story.
I strongly disagree. I'm a fan of both LOTR (I've read it 7 times and it was my FIRST book I've read once I learned how to read), and a fan of Narnia Cronicles (which I actually have read only 3 times).
Both of them are excellent tales for children and I'm going to read them both once again. But this time aloud, for my cute little daughter when she goes to sleep.
a journalist in my country (Poland) made an investigation about possible uses of Kazaa to find data of national importancy (I cannot find URL now, and the article is written in polish;).
In just a few hours he found documents related to national security and bussiness. Mostly because careless employers of crucial national institutions carelessly install Kazaa just to download junk, and don't even know (or understand) that they share C:\My Documents\ directory. This is outrageous.
The journalist said that not all national-importancy institutes suffer this sick employers behaviour, but some of them do. Which is proven by simple Kazaa search.
I prefer gnome to KDE. And I see that KDE is more advanced.
by this decision I see some hope for gnome to speed their development. That's why I think it is good.
I also hope that decision about mozilla and gumeric + OOffice will solve their greatest problem: its own widget set. (I prefer galeon to mozilla - mainly because of native widget set == less bloated)
to conclude: I think that Bruce made the best possible decissions, and I really hope it will be a great success.
(btw, sawfish is my WM, not gnome, which for me is too bloated;)

just like the trollpost above... i wonder how much attention the moderators are spending on verification of the links.
oops. sorry, I just wanted to share my shock with others when I saw on a linux screenshot a sentence (in capital letters) 'we love bill gates'....
The bill will provide criminal penalties for violations of its provisions (up to five years behind bars), but will not allow private parties to sue spammers.
no. I'm from Poland. and it is good when you read this book longer, by this way you learn a lot more from it. I have to read several parts over and over again (you can think that is beacuse I'm too stupid to understand them first time, I don't care).
yeah. I look at this graph once a month in a hope that I will see more linux;) and I've been wondering that too: what is the "other" so big that it is 5% ??
maybe someone who works for google could give us a short explanation here?
[...] using whatever search engine they used 6 years ago before Google existed, such as Yahoo.
here you can have a look at google's statistics - statisctics of "who is using google?"
I think that major difference 6.6 % of XP users versus 38 % of XP users is caused by a very simple thing: win95/98 users are not connected to internet thus, they are not using google.
based on this, news's survey is very likely to be true
In the CNet article it says that Microsoft has no intention of enforcing the patent. I find that interesting since I seem to recall them saying the same thing about FAT up until their recent "licensing" scheme for FAT.

1)Quietly Register Patent
;)
2)Wait for some company to make lots of money totally legitimately
3)Sue until your stock price doubles!
I'm sure this money-making strategy is already patented
on the bottom of this page you can see in some nice tables what versions Mandrake currently uses. (e.g. koffice in 9.2 is 1.3beta3)
sorry for replying to myself.

I just noticed that I had answered to anonymous coward... since I have an account here on slashdot I never post anonymously. And that is my pride.
Everyone can recognise me, at last if they want to. (ok. that's my last off-topic post, you can mod it off-topic if you want.)

Eric S. Raymond has just written a long book about Unix programming called The Art of UNIX Programming
oh, he has just written it? How could it be that I was reading this book for over a year now?
Keeping things on topic, anyone know how OSS friendly EMC is?
;).
I did some research about this, and I found an article stating that Compaq, EMC, HP, IBM, Intel and Sun Join Open Source Development Network. But note that this article is dated for the year 2000. Founded by them OSDN site feels VERY good. And we can see it was a really good (bottom) initiative (OSDN even supports slashdot
I tried to answer if after 4 years EMC is still supporting OSDN. Yet I was unable to confirm that.
those are the results of my research in this interestong topic. If you have manage to confirm that EMC still supports OSDN, please let us know!

if this is meant to be a pocket PC, then I don't know where into my pocket I would fit this big LCD display (shown on the photo)...
