I don't understand why this huge and useless connector is still included on most PC laptops.
I also prefer RS232, as it is more universal than parallel port. But I can confirm that PLIP (max 50kb/sec on my 75Mhz laptop) is faster than SLIP (max 10 kb/sec). Maybe they want to allow us faster network connection?;->
hey, I installed debian woody on 486, 75Mhz, 16MB RAM, 512 MB HDD. And it works great:) Xwindow with pwm window manager, web browsing, playing adom, developing C++ programs with STL, all that I need is there, and works:)))
I could never get my laptop(dell latitude lt, P1 233 mmx, 64mb ram, 4Gb HD) to boot to knoppix. [...] i need support for a pcmcia cd-rom drive and my wireless card as well as my watch
your watch should be supported without problems, as an usb-scsi storage device. that's how my HP320 digital camera(128 MB) and nokia 5510(64 MB) work.
when you check this out, plesase tell us whether MandrakeMove works better than Knoppix
that's my first thought when I saw the picture. Why the CPU is looking so... um.. dirty (looks like corrosion)? I'm not an overclocker specialist, or whatever, and really I don't want to be a troll here;) I'm just curious.
perhaps answer to this question will be modded informative (as this question itself is not;)
I want Mozilla and OpenOffice to use a widget set of my choice (no matter which one I choose - qt, gtk, gtk2....)
btw, it reminds me of wxWindows - a set of tools that allow you to compile your programs under different OSes using native widget sets of your choice. All widget sets are supported, but the widget set is chosen during compile time.
To get it to work under linux I had to do following things (in kernel make menuconfig):
Character devices --->I2C support --->
[*] I2C support
[*] I2C bit-banging interfaces
[*] I2C/proc interface (required for hardware sensors)
Multimedia devices --->[M] Video For Linux
Video For Linux --->
[*] V4L information in proc filesystem
[M] BT848 Video For Linux
and that's all required configuration. I had to google after this whole info a bit. So here you are;) everything info you need. After compiling the kernel (and rebooting;) you will only need to install tvtime (I think this is the best program to watch tv under linux).
After configuring kernel it just works! I started to mess with modules configuration, but after a short while I discovered that I don't have to;-))
I have a remote control too, and I googled a bit so I know it should work. But I have a wireless keboard, so I was too lazy to check out what is needed to run remote control;))
A shader program running on the NVIDIA GeForce FX 5900 Ultra achieves over 20 GFLOPS, roughly equivalent to a 10 GHz Pentium 4.
wait, if there is a technology that allows construction of GPU that is 3 times faster than the fastest CPUs, why Intel and AMD do not use this technology to build those 3times faster CPUs?
are you sure that you can compare the speed of GPU and CPU?
I prefer gnome to KDE. And I see that KDE is more advanced.
by Bruce's decision I see some hope for gnome to speed their development. That's why I think it is good.
I also hope that decision about mozilla and gumeric + OOffice will solve their greatest problem: its own widget set. (I prefer galeon to mozilla - mainly because of native widget set == less bloated)
to conclude: I think that Bruce made the best possible decissions, and I really hope it will be a great success.
(btw, sawfish is my WM, not gnome, which for me is too bloated;)
I'm not going to convince you;) It was hard for me to belive this, once I realized what I had done (few years later). Then I tried to recall any book that I read earlier. But it was not possible: I even loathed reading of school-book stories.
It just happened because my elder brother said this is a good book. Then he said: 'you are going to read this? You can't do that, you're too young!'. So it was a matter of honour to read it;)
it was my first book, and the book that changed my attitude to books. I started to read them. Take my word or not. I simply have no proof;)

In case you forget aboout google images, here you can see pictures of OQO ;)

wow, nice to know that my boxen can survive slashdotting ;-))
:-P
;)
take a look a my traffic graph. It's from last 48 hours. you didn't even manage to get above 250kb/sec
I cannot get my hands on those four animations now... but I bet I would dare to host them
I wonder if my box will survive, but anyway, here's what I captured.

yay!

you're a dumb troll, just face it.
yeah, my apologies. I just realised that ;) sorry.

this means that new TI calculators are not yet avaiable on froogle, foolish me
I checked out prices at froogle:
Texas Instuments Voyage 200 costs about 200 USD
TI-83 Plus costs 17 USD (!!)
TI-84 Plus Silver Edition is not found
200 USD vs. 17 USD?! what's going on here?
how one would not use TeX to make .pdfs with so many [70] pages?! unbeliveable!
I can see it at a glance, it is not TeX it is not even LaTeX!
world is steadily falling down and down, since the time our ancestors descended the tree....

instant messangers... yeah, they always break down my personal time. that's why I 'apt-get remove'd them all.
my tv tuner works perfectly under linux (I'm using it for 3 months). and my brother used it with windows (for 1 year, then he gave it to me).

It is produced by Philips, and is quite old. Just look for Brooktree brand.

sorry about lame question... I never played half-life (I'm still playing quake2 ;)
does half-life work under linux? If so, then where can I download some demo/shareware half-life version for linux?

IT people and security-concerned people will hopefully learn a lot from this book.
good to see security improving as the time passess....
