It doesn't matter, Apple is evil. And closed. And all that other stuff. Stop pointing out the obvious benefits of Apple's approach. Don't you know it doesn't adhere to our strict open philosophy? It doesn't matter that people seem to like it, it seems to work, and it seems to be secure.
Really, been following the news lately? 15 states have medical marijuana laws now, and more are considering them. California may very well legalize it this year. I think the pot smoking generation is having an effect.
My credit card number has changed. Apparently there are certain kinds of accounts where they can say it was a requested recurring charge, and the number would be updated.
As for suing, it might be fun. But there are better ways to spend my days.
I just noticed that AOL has appeared on my credit card bill yet again. I have not used the service since the 90s, but I am still forced to call and cancel every two years are so. I have downloaded my transactions for years, and can call up all payments. It's bizarre, after two years, all of sudden a charge will start appearing again. I wonder how many of their subscribers have been repeated scammed like this.
I was at D8, and I can tell you Ballmer was laughed at too. By midway through his interview, everyone within three rows were murmuring or giggling to each other. I heard the world delusional used several times. It was surreal watching the head of MS seem to be so so out of touch. But specifically, when he criticized Google for having two OS products, people guffawed. The group around me started counting how many MS currently has, and we figured around 5-6. MS needs Ballmer gone.
This is insightful? What's the insight? Do you know anything about HTML5? Apple is helping build an open web that proprietary devices from any company can connect to. How is an open standard such as HTML an Apple only web experience? The reality is exactly the opposite. Right now we have a situation where one company, Adobe, determines what web experience (if you're talking about Flash) you get on any given device or platform. Compare that to an open HTML5 rendering engine (webkit), and a push towards open web standards. In what universe does that add up to that being an Apple only experience?
It would seem to me that this opens the door for a more viable consumer machine based on the things we around here seem to want to support. By offering Ubuntu with h.264, they are offering a way for hardware producers to give Linux to the masses. One of the first questions an average consumer will ask of a new network device is "can I view web videos?" The answer will be yes on their MID running free and open source software. That's a win folks.
And btw for those ragging on Apple right now, this is one benefit of moving to a HTML5/264 future.
So they thought they found a way around the spirit of the agreement. It was pretty clear to me that Apple wanted developers developing with their tools. But Adobe tried to make that business decision for them by trying to wriggle around the agreement.
..by allowing flash developers to create a native executable for the iphone. It was written using flash, but was an actual native execuitable (sic) for the iphone.
No, just because it executes does not mean it is native. Ever had to run a RealBasic app on a Mac?
They're not at the mercy of a third party, they're at the mercy of a first partner. The partner they agreed to do business with. If you don't like playing by Apple's rules, develop for something else. They are not a monopoly, there are many choices. But wait, you want to be in on the game? If so you have chosen to play by their rules.
You're right, the iPad isn't for you. But how many people even have multiple monitors, much less use computers like you do? I've never seen a morlock with multiple monitors. For most people a computer is a way to consume information, not create it or manipulate it. For them, the iPad (and tablets like it) can replace their desktops.
Agreed. I have both an mini and Apple TV hooked up to screens in my place, and by far the better experience is the mini. In my dock are Hulu Desktop, Miro, Boxee, and iTunes which covers almost all my needs. Streaming works great, even Netflix. One downside, no bluray.
This would be far better if he was stoned. Say what you will, but getting a smart person on a stoned rant can be entertaining. And they don't puke in the middle either.
Scorpio!
He'll sting you with his dreams of power and wealth.
Beware of Scorpio!
His twisted twin obsessions are his plot to rule the world
And his employees' health.
He'll welcome you into his lair,
Like the nobleman welcomes his guest.
With free dental care and a stock plan that helps you invest!
But beware of his generous pensions,
Plus three weeks paid vacation each year,
And on Fridays the lunchroom serves hot dogs and burgers and beer!
He loves German beer!
Really, this is insightful? Apple is pushing the market towards an open standard, and away from a propreitary one. And this is because they want control? Open standards can be as important as open source in my view. Apple has pushed open standards since the release of OS X, including calendaring, contacts, email, and server services to name a few that come to mind. In addition, Apple has made many contributions to the open source community, far more than most people realize.
If Photoshop was available in the App store. It's not, and probably won't be anytime soon. An opening for new developers I'd say...
I think his call sign was Duck.
Exactly. Hyperbole never helps.

Does anyone know if Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead?
Luckily the barf bags will still be an non-transparent white.

"'Particularly with that bizarre form factor that won't fit anywhere"
Bingo. That was my first thought when I saw the shape. It won't fit in anyone's stereo cabinet with the other components.
It can be. But as I recently said to a friend, two women equals twice the drama, headaches, and all the rest.
My credit card number has changed. Apparently there are certain kinds of accounts where they can say it was a requested recurring charge, and the number would be updated.

Don't worry, any evil policies are only in beta.

No, the web is ruled by The People's Front of Judea. Those idiots at the Judean People's Front don't know what the hell they're doing.

Adobe worked around this EULA limitation
So they thought they found a way around the spirit of the agreement. It was pretty clear to me that Apple wanted developers developing with their tools. But Adobe tried to make that business decision for them by trying to wriggle around the agreement.

I've been a Mac user for 25 years. Believe me, being 10% of the market doesn't guarantee you from getting screwed.

What about locking down linux on the other ships in Starfleet?
I guess that maybe I read the headline incorrectly...
