The carnival stopped at slashdot (see here) and some of us found the whole thing to be an interesting and cool event (with a lot of neat stories i probably wouldn't have seen otherwise). by the way this was just one of those single line things so if you don't think it's the most important thing in the world there really wasn't a reason to click on it.
He's referring to the speech on which Bush was replying to the Internet rumors that there was going to be a draft for Iraq. He said "I hear there's rumors on the Internets". I'm not sure why he pluralized it.
