Maybe you were modded down for being so "direct" about it, but on this I have to agree with you. (flame on!) It's a little like the Apple thing, even though they do make a better computer. (flame off!)
That was what I was thinking. If Clear Channel doesn't like them, they could just buy them out. Everbody has a price, especially in this business. I remember when the gov't was saying that now there is "competition" to network TV, we can lift the ownership restrictions. But nobody ever spelled out that the networks simply bought up a bunch of cable channels(nearly ALL of them). So where's the competition now?? To paraphrase a Discovery network promo. Six channels, six programs, your only option is The Discovery Network. (Emphasis mine) It made me a little ill.
It's kind of funny that you blame the government when the true blame lies on the corporations that have bought the government.
No! The TRUE blame lies with the guy/gal in the mirror. Don't give your money to the corporation. Don't vote for the incumbent. Make your own salt. Spin you own clothes. Grow your own weed and your own food. Ride a bike. Walk. Put up a solar array, a wind generator. Collect your own rain water. Compost your shit. The U.S. and other "democratic" counrties definitely have the gov't that they deserve. The voter is every bit as despicable as the politician they vote for.
That is reason enough for spammers to spend jail-time, and lots of it. The government didn't go far enough.
You're absolutely right. And I hope you get some jail time the next time you "glide" through a stop sign or get caught going 2 miles over the speed limit. Thsese laws are here for our safety, and if you break them, it's jail for you pal. Get the point?
I hate spam, not for the fact that it hounds many of my emails with 3-10 messages per day, but because of the people who are literally preyed upon by it for their money.
Nobody put a gun to their head, forcing them to buy a product. No matter how you want to look at it, spam is a two way street and it's a consensual act between buyer and seller. That means in no way should there be any jail time. Technical solutions ARE possible, and it's up to us to work it out and implement it. (But, it's so haaarrrd. Can't we just lock up the "bad people"? That would be sooo much easier.)
I couldn't tell you if people hate spammers that much, but it seems they like putting folks in jail for the smallest inconvenience. Despite all it's failings, The "lock 'em up" mentality is alive and well. Must be some kind of power trip.
The prison industry is becomeing very profitable. The more "tenants" they get the more profitable it becomes. They're not just making license plate anymore. Soon, more and more companies will move their factories into the prisons. This isn't about reducing crime. It's about filling the prisons any way they can. It's a shame that more people don't realize this, and demand the end of this despicable practice. I hope all you people clamoring for more prison sentencing for being inconvenienced have to spend some time on the inside for something so trivial. You really need to be whacked on the head with a fire extinguisher to understand that jail is not nor ever will be the answer. Countries with harsh laws don't any lower crime rate than those without. I see just as much crime in Texas as anywhere else despite their tough sentencing. But if you're in the prison industry, I'm sure you're thinking, "Jail for everybody!" Anyway, that should answer number 3.
If you're in the business of buying other people's ideas for the purpose of extorting money...
Ultimately, that's the only kind of business IP really helps. There are many new companies springing up just for this purpose. IP is becoming just another commodity(if it isn't there already), like oil futures. Like Federal Reserve Notes, it has no real value.
The quad was Schick(sp). Gillette is "Mach 3". Remember this? "Triple Track, because you'll buy anything." That SNL skit ran over 25 years ago. There was another parody ad that showed a razor with 7 or 8 blades. Can't remember where I saw it.
This only weakens the concept of intellectual property.
GOOD! The concept of intellectual property is absurd. It is as illogical as the square root of -1, or trying to divide by zero. This and similar events that will occur in the future will prove I'm right, which means nothing when the guy with a gun says I'm wrong. People will continue to innovate without IP. We just won't see anybody making millions off the "pet rock" and other junk inventions.("Studies show that our patented 'new and improved' formula will make your clothes 63 percent brighter!" Gliiinnng...). I think it was Norman Mailer that said that Fascism is the natural state, not democracy. IP is a perfect example. It can only serve a very small group of people at the expense of the general population.
hus, my reference to communism - the law of the land states that everything is the property of the State.
Everything IS the property of the state. If you don't believe me, try missing a couple of tax payments, and them tell me who comes a knockin'. Hint: they won't be Fuller Brush salesmen.
You obviously never heard of "TwoferTuesdays".:-) "Sounds so nice, we'll play it twice". Not too many years ago(maybe 35-40), they did play the same song by the same artist back to back on some AM stations.
I have to say that all those things you point out are more of a reflection on the voter than anything else. I guess Gore Vidal is right. We are a despicable lot in allowing this to continue. We are using the ballot box in our attempt to stay ahead of our neighbors.
Took a matter of 3 months to get a reply, but I was happy I got one.
Some people type pretty slow:-)
Due to copyright being extended to the longer time that the United States uses.
Well, you know, the Americans aren't going to stand for that. They gotta be number one, and will see your 20 years, and raise you another ten, and they'll do it with a pair of two's in their hand.
I hope the Austrailians don't fall into the matrix as deeply as the Americans have, and can turn this thing around, permanently, by electing good people. In the meantime, look for and develope the best programs and hardware to work around the problem. Good luck, guys.
Heh...just after posting that, I was thinking that all that crap on Star Trek about shield "frequency and modulation" actually has a meaning or purpose here. We will encounter more RF weaponry as time goes on, and we're going to need more than tin foil to protect ourselves.
Cops aren't going to be interested in comming out to find who is responsible...
The cops will probably most likely be the people responsible for putting UP the jammers. The gov't doesn't like P2P communications without going through one of their "check points"(phone company, ISP, etc.)
If the jammer can be "masked out", could that work?
Those things roll around a lot. Something like the self winding mechanism in a watch, only big?
Anybody can spend a few bucks and build a powerful signal jammer that will just destroy all wireless networks in the area.
Curses...foiled again...back to the lab, pinky...I'll get back to you on that. I hope jammers will be easy to find, even in the cloud. Maybe, due to it's power level? or how the signal is modulated? All that work they're doing with active noise cancelling works for RF also...I hope.
Why is it good to oursource because of high taxes, but not good because of high wages? The gov't is just another group looking for their "fair share". Please keep in mind, I don't believe any of that, but the question popped up, and I thought I'd ask.
The logic in the P2P debate is always "I believe whatever supports my position, and I don't believe anything that speaks against my position."
And why not?? They're just following the example set by the people in charge. In reality, this is a turf war, little else, and you're getting caught in the cross fire. I believe the gov't calls it "collateral damage". I'm waiting for the wireless thing to take off, and REALLY cut out the middle man. Then we' will have REAL P2P. Scary. Isn't it?
Pure air transmission is better than dealing with a bunch of middleman equipment and retransmission anyway.
Absolutely. This is great. Now, maybe, we're going to see REAL peer to peer. That's what was promised with the internet...right? You'll never get that when you have to use somebody elses landline. We'll be able to communicate, hidden in the RF clouds. For real freedom, keep it mobile.(In case they try to take the freqs back:-)) With paper computers on the way, that anybody can print up in 5 minutes, this could help bring down the "Nasties"(them crazy baldheads)
Maybe you were modded down for being so "direct" about it, but on this I have to agree with you.

iTunes also allows you to do this. Preferences>Advanced>Shuffle>Off to Buffalo?

Bluetooth mood ring...bah...that's so last week. You need something new and improved.

The suspense is killing me. Care to post?
And how do you plan to power these buoys?

I see one and only one way a tax on LANs becomes fair.
Yeah...if they came to my house. I've been wanting to get rid of this cat 3 stuff for years.
Aw c'mon, man. You know the real message is don't get caught :-) Almost every politician knows that.

The higher the frequency, the worse the performance for going through walls and other barriers for a given transmission power...
That makes me wonder why we don't go with the low frequency stuff...10Khz down to 10Hz. Gotta be something there we can use.
