It was a useful concept at one time, allowing free apps and for companies to advertise their products when so much commercial software is so grossly overpriced, but now obviously has taken a turn for the worse.
It's bad enough when the government invades our privacy wantonly, but they'll also let corporations do it at will. And not even over security concerns, but for revenue. Meanwhile we're all treated like suspects to a crime by one bill after another from Congress, and the collusion of the ISPs.
Some of you just plain take movies too seriously, instead of enjoying them for what they are, light entertainment. This especially goes for SW. Always I see this in SW threads, "the OT was amazing, the Prequels sucked." Jesus Christ, people. The dialogue was just as bad in the OT as in the prequels ie "traveling through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops, boy". The ewoks were no more a brilliant concept than Jar-Jar (who was put in for the kids, and the kids actually liked him even if the voice was annoying). The lightsaber battles were infinitely better in the prequels, and the blaster fights were about the same. There was no Harrison Ford in the prequels, and Jedi characters are always going to be largely dry and tasteless. Then again, there was no brother and sister kissing each other in the prequels either. Honestly, you tolerated all the shortcomings in the OT that film critics would point out and forgave them, but when they repeated it in the prequels, THEN you were bitching about it. Lucas is a lousy director and writer, but he was consistent through all six movies. Why are so many of you so unable to see that? With action films, you really need to leave the critic thing at home. This ain't Shakespeare on the stage.

Who insist on charging prices that nobody but the rich can afford, so that they can buy their mansions, Jaguars, yachts, etc. Up to $600 an hour or more for him to ask you some obvious questions, and you to do all the work. So instead, go to a clinic, get your pills, and on your way. The same problem with the entire healthcare industry. They're apparently never rich enough, and are really not concerned with helping people, despite the Oath.
As if it actually did WORK. Unless of course "work" consists of being bought and paid for by lobbyists to do their bidding. These are the same people who almost have to be held at gunpoint just to get the budget done, and this supposed to be their number one priority. Then again their might be a basketball game going on in the gym, or the Capitol Steps might need somebody to sit in for a session.
Anybody who lives in the U.S. would testify it's a melting pot. You go to almost any major city, and there a mix of different ethnic groups and nationalities that you won't find anywhere else on the planet.
Another reason, and maybe the overriding one, would be that the BeOS community practically demands it. Quite a few people kept using BeOS 5 Pro, BeosMax and even PhosphurOS even though they were outdated. Be went out of business years ago, and while many switched to other operating systems, a lot of people still used it and gathered at sites like BeBits. People still were developing apps and drivers for it. Call it what you will, but the enthusiasm for this "dead" OS just never quit.

A lot of people keep pointing to Iraq as an example for some strange reason, when in fact, all the resistance did is get a lot of people killed for nothing. What they accomplished so far, is exactly what they could have accomplished by negotiating with the new government. IEDs and suicide bombers do not overturn a government.
Your average Michigan milita-type would find out the same thing that the Sunnis found out. That they didn't know what the hell they were doing, and that they somehow thought having lots of rounds in their basement and a big set of cojones was all they needed. We all remember the U.S. Civil War, and that was with a far weaker, politically divided Union not against one of the most advanced, well-trained armies in the world.

Do people never consider this is the problem when translating British comedy into something that needs to appeal to Americans? That British humor too often is entirely too dry? That while those who do appreciate it probably consider themselves more intelligent, that maybe it just doesn't appeal to everbody and that changing it to fit different tastes might not be a sin?

Yeah, but the problem is your side of the argument is trying to pass laws restricting the other side which obstructs important medical research and violates the rights of people who actually exist in the world and are not "maybes". Afterall, some embryos abort naturally and may never even make it out of the womb. But some how their rights are being put above the mother's. Also strange is the lack of concern coming from most pro-Life people toward animal rights. If all life is valuable, why aren't animals' rights up their with peoples?
Maybe it's tyranny because Stallman (much like youself right now) just won't let it go, insists on hammering the point home again and again rather than just saying, "This is how I feel. Sorry you don't agree."
It's also why the Linux kernel is much more popular among developers than HURD (because people and companies can contribute to it and still keep their copyright).

Or maybe the RIAA can follow AllofMP3.com's pricing example. Afterall, they don't seem to be having any problems selling music. We've gotten used to entertainers, or more specifically lawyers and record execs getting insanely rich, buying homes in Hollywood Hills, etc. This in a country where minimum wage doesn't even keep up with inflation. But what if they had to work for more honest wages, had to scrape by every week to pay bills like the rest of us? Would that be so horrible? And if they won't do it willingly, well, other industries have price caps. Maybe the entertainment industry also needs them.
