Do we really want (or need) the Netbook back? As I recall, they were a product that did little more than make people wish they had saved the money to buy something that was actually capable of meeting their basic needs. These days everyone has a cellphone which is already infinitely better than the netbook of yesterday.
Except Bill gates didn't have anything to do with Windows 10 or it's "anti-consumer features". He doesn't run the company. So.. what was your point again?
My point is that Elon isn't being an altruist. He's doing what he always does - he's looking out for #1. You shouldn't just instantly believe he's doing it as a favor for mankind.
..and that right there is the problem. You're willing to "bet" on this sort of stuff without any facts. We have a name for people who form their opinions like that. We call them idiots.
"Visual Studio crashes on a whim" - I fail to understand how you'd know this if you staunchly oppose using Windows to the point that you no longer know what it's like. I dislike Linux zealots because they get so caught up in idealism that they fail to understand anything about what they're decrying.
It's a solution to blackouts. Of course it's going to cost money - but the question is, does this solution make economic sense?
I'd wager (and so it Elon) that a big lump of batteries just might be cheaper than a new peaker power plant.
Sure, but is it cheaper in the long run? I agree with you in so far as to say that this is a question about total cost of ownership and continued maintenance. Power plants require their own expensive maintenance but those parts can be acquired from a number of different sources. Those sources can compete on pricing. Who does Elon presently have to compete with?
Because North Korea is a buffer zone between China and South Korea. If it falls you want strong military assets in the south to deter any action by China towards South Korea.
Unless we start making it clear that no business can be done with companies that act like this nothing will change. Will it make things worse for some people? Yes. That can't be helped. However if they're dying in mines before they have a chance to grow up I don't see leaving things as is to be much better.
I'm sorry, but doesn't this just qualify as an instance where you say "we will no longer do business with you under any circumstances ever again" applies? Apple is such a shitty company.
As usual, Slashdot fails to see the entire picture: This is a woman who joined as a salesman and even though she had no education was promoted to engineering positions in only 4 years on the job. That sure sounds discriminatory!
When contacted, Tesla provided the following statement to TechCrunch regarding the new statements made by Vandermeyden to the Guardian:
Tesla is committed to creating a positive workplace environment that is free of discrimination for all our employees. Ms. Vandermeyden joined Tesla in a sales position in 2013, and since then, despite having no formal engineering degree, she has sought and moved into successive engineering roles, beginning with her work in Tesla’s paint shop and eventually another role in General Assembly. Even after she made her complaints of alleged discrimination, she sought and was advanced into at least one other new role, evidence of the fact that Tesla is committed to rewarding hard work and talent, regardless of background. When Ms. Vandermeyden first brought her concerns to us over a year ago, we immediately retained a neutral third party, Anne Hilbert of EMC2Law, to investigate her claims so that, if warranted, we could take appropriate action to address the issues she raised. After an exhaustive review of the facts, the independent investigator determined that Ms. Vandermeyden’s “claims of gender discrimination, harassment, and retaliation have not been substantiated.” Without this context, the story presented in the original article is misleading.
Also, good luck dissipating the heat generated by said rail gun. We may as well call it a fail gun, because that's what's going to happen to it after a shot or two. Space is a great insulator.
Sure she's a democrat, but they're talking about political leaning. She's not even as close to left leaning as you'd like to believe. The problem with people like you is that you can't handle anything that doesn't fit inside your narrow world view. We get it, Hillary lost and you're angry about it still. However it's time to grow up and get past that.
Well, not trying to be elitist or anything, but you should make time for A Clockwork Orange if you find you have nothing better to do. It is pretty good. Then again, whatever does it for you.
Theaters are already feeling the hit because of how ridiculously expensive they are. A lot of people just aren't going anymore. Many won't rent at that price. In fact, idiocy like this is going to push more people towards piracy. If the movie is going to be out in a rental format 17 days after release, you can bet your ass it's going to be available to download/stream by the 18th day.

You seem to think that this was the only thing that changed. This says to me that you're willfully ignorant.
Seriously. Fuck Nick Denton. Maybe he thinks he was part of "the good internet", but the rest of us know better.
Leg drop him again, Hulkster!

>Hopefully, yur argumentum ad hominem isn't going to work on anyone here who was smart enough not to vote for Trump
Pot, meet kettle.

Then they'll be back on Elon's doorstep in 5 - 10 years getting replacements because nobody else sells the batteries and they don't last forever...
Of course he'd make this bet. It's not about solving a problem, it's about creating a very expensive dependency on his company.

You're totally right. We should just let the cycle of abuse continue with no consequences.
Sometimes I wonder why the world can be such an ugly place, then people like you show up to remind me why.
Razer doesn't need our help to build an overpriced laptop with a lot of LEDs. They do this just fine already.

What other fucking industry does this? None of them. Why are we held to the highest standard?

...or at least many people interested in laughing at what she has to say.
Honestly, if she wanted to shock people she'd start making an ounce of sense.
If only I had the points. I would mod you in to space. Maybe you could drop rationality on to Earth while evilcorp is throwing rocks at us.

If it's all crap, why even pirate it?

They tried to do this with screeners too. Guess how well that worked out.
