That's just stupid. There have been plenty more serious threats made with absolutely no retaliation from the US. Now suddenly you think they'll act on this? You're an idiot.
If the article was about any of those companies I'd be decrying their actions too. Apple tried to make us believe they we going to do better and I think many of us believed that. They lied.
Because Apple made a statement that they would not do business with companies that acted like this, and yet, here they are doing business with companies who act like this.
To think Apple has no influence in this situation is absurd.
She's worth 300 million. What exactly is she putting on the line again? If every single one of her enterprises failed tomorrow, she'd still be set for several lifetimes. Her risk is exactly zero.
The pirate bay censors people all the time in its own comment system. They then distribute large amounts of malware and virus laden torrents around with no regard to the people who use them. To say they're about censorship protection is a laughable joke.
I'm fine with that, but ask for money when you ship an update of consequence. Don't nickel and dime me every month for the sake of doing it. I'm not paying for you to fix product defects that shouldn't have been there on release.
No, it's definitely both. Cost is of course the larger of the two, but range anxiety is a real thing. Not to mention, the infrastructure to gas up and go in just about any direction exists, but the ability to charge up in any given direction is fairly limited.
Now, you say it's enough range to cover 95% of a person's driving needs - but it's that 5% that becomes massively inconvenient. So what are people supposed to do? Buy an electric car and a gas car? That's just as expensive as buying the $60k tesla in the first place. Before the EV really takes root, it can't just supplement our personal transport needs, it needs to be able to step in and do it all.
>The tools are around us, but for obvious reasons no one is investing in them
Just because you think the reasons are obvious, doesn't mean they are. The bottom line remains - if you take from somewhere, you lose from somewhere else.
...it's a fuck-no thing. I've seen the "conversions" people are doing. You're likely to wind up dead driving one of those things.
EVs aren't going mainstream until auto manufacturers make them both affordable and able to travel the same range as a gas vehicle in the same sentence. It's nice that there are $60k+ vehicles out there that can go the distance, but it winds up just being a novelty for people with a lot of money.
Anyone who sits down and decides to write his own OS from scratch deserves a lot of credit - regardless of the motivation. People really underestimate how much work it is.
When was the last time you played a video game without using your body?

Most people want to write software, or play the guitar, or build a house.
That is, until they see it requires years of learning and practice to do it well.

Black people are the most guilty when it comes to keeping racism alive. Many of the rest of us have already moved past trivial things like skin color.
...by a bunch of cheap H1B's
...and then they take it anyway.
If they don't care about the rules then, what makes you think saying no is going to stop them?
The world is full of clueless idiots who buy garbage like this thinking they are joining the new age or something.
> and the cost
This is really the issue. What they sell a season of a TV show for seems disproportionate to its actual value.

...is zero on the US side.
This is just sensationalist chickbait bullsiht. The electric companies are in no danger at all.
Sometimes I'm just reading the menu. Tracking what I look at or how long I'm looking at it isn't representative of my decision making process.

It sucks being late to the party, thanks for helping a guy out.
I really like how you approached the question objectively, giving some reasoning from all sides without decrying any single side as necessarily wrong.

Literally and figuratively since his expertise isn't in AI.
I don't suppose someone has a good article or explanation about why the entire systemd thing is a hot issue in the first place?
Anyone who sits down and decides to write his own OS from scratch deserves a lot of credit - regardless of the motivation. People really underestimate how much work it is.
Given how awful a lot of people are at driving, do you really want them in the sky too?
...as long as high capacity SSDs keep costing as much as an entire computer.
