Sure, April fools and all that. Was it really that bad? I think I was 7 or so when it was aired. All I remember is Chewie's mom watching a cooking show. On the show, a four-armed woman was cooking and utilizing all of her four arms to mix, pour, sift, etc. Chewie's mom was getting flustered, because she couldn't keep up. The four-armed chef was saying, "Stir... whip... stir... whip...," and mamma wookie was howling or barking, or whatever it is that pissed-off wookies do.
I worked at Hill Air Force Base as a "Software Engineer," or so the title was. I actually did maintenence and bug fixes on old ATLAS code that ran on HP 1000s configured as F-16 black box test benches. The pay was decent. The stress level was next to 0. No mandatory OT and all the voluntary OT you wanted. I had a LOT of freedom -- leaving early if I wanted. Hey, this was the government. I [practically] couldn't get fired. Lots of sick and vacation time too.
Problem was: I hated the work. It was not at all fulfilling or rewarding. All the perks were there: pay, security, personal time off, and very low stress. I just didn't enjoy what I was doing. So, I applied to a company in the private sector, got an offer (albeit for more money,) and now I'm a REAL engineer will more stress, let time off, less security, and higher accountability. And, I'm loving every minute of it -- simply because I feel like I'm actually contributing. I'm actually doing something worth while. I enjoy what I do, and that, to me, is more important than all the other aspects.
Proof please. Anyone who wants to know exactly what the Patriot Act entails can find out.
Fed agents still need a warrAnt to search your house. Difference now is that CIA can pass info on a suspect to the FBI. The FBI then goes to a Federal judge to get a warrAnt to search the suspect's home.
" This time, Bush won because people voted for him for the *wrong* reasons."
To this, I would like to bounce a question commonly spewed by atheists such as yourself: Who decides right or wrong? Our [Bush-voters] reasons were wrong according to your critique. In our eyes, every conceivable reason you would have to vote for Kerry would be wrong. But, to get to the heart of your argument, for what correct reason would you vote for Kerry? The man stood for nothing. He was ambiguous and non-definitive on almost every subject, including whether the war in Iraq is right. How could anyone agree (or disagree) with him consistently? He even betrayed your philosophy in the latter days of his campaign by trying to woo the Christian vote with his own references to God and select quotes from the Bible. In trying to concede to everyone, he alienated his own base. You should be happy he lost.
As for your claims of Bush proclaiming himself as a(the) chosen one: What?
To your references to philosophers past: Studying diverse schools of thought is enriching and edifying. Basing your morals on the conjectures of dead NAZIs and frenchmen is not, however, the best way formulate your own moral compass.
God was not speaking through my vote for Bush. My vote was the result of being well-informed on the issues and choosing a President who supports (definitively) my evaluation of those issues. I didn't listen to Sartre's existentialism, I have to admit. And, I certainly didn't listen to P. Diddy's or Ben Afleck's take on the issues, either.
Says you! Your post reflects the essence of elitism. Your stanse wreaks of a of prejudice and hatred, invoking the spirit of anti-Christianity. Also, your grammar and syntax are quite flawed for an "educated" person. Do you realise that your entire post is one, big run-on sentence? I'm not even sure I'm reading your meaning as you intended. Maybe you were complimenting God? Huh?
I'm making this post under the assumption that you were meaning to say that the better humans' (self-nominated educated) votes should count more than another group of Americans with whom the former disagree. That is elitism. You saying you're not an elitist is like Kerry saying he's been consistent.
Ok, for readers like musikit, who need it spelled out for them:
In the midst of this DDOS attack, voices are being stifled. Their speech is being hindered, because someone else doesn't like what they have to say.
Any way you look at it, their speech is no longer free. They are having to seek other means of expression, or they are having to take measures to overcome opression to express their ideas.
Do you really think it was just a bunch of privates and corporals who came out with this idea of abusing prisoners? No, this goes right to the top. Did Rumsfeld say "make human pyramids", of course not. But he certainly said "Get info out of these guys no matter what it takes".
Do you really think it was Rumsfeld or any other administraion official who instructed the prison guards to document their deeds with photos, and then leak them to the press? Not a very smart move, huh? Chances are, they acted alone on that one. So, why not the abuse as well? Any connection to the top, saying Bush/Rumsfeld are directly responsible to the abuse, is a load of speculative crap. Where's your proof?
Did some privates tell the JAG to stay away from the prison? Or did it take someone high enough in authority to force JAG to stay away.
JAG didn't stay away. They just weren't there 24/7. This is, of course, why each case of abuse happened in the very early hours of the morning.
I'm a lifelong republican...
Then, why are you drinking Kerry-brand Kool-aid?
Holy cow, wake up before they damage our country even more!
Holy Cow! To what damage are you referring? Recovering economy, despite the huge collapse that started in OCT 2000? Homeland safety, despite the onslaught of world terrorism? A world without Sadam Hussein, despite the UN, who thought it better to leave him in power? Lower taxes, despite all the naysayers who said this would hurt the economy?
You need to change your radio station, man! If you truly are a republican, as you say, you need to stop getting your news solely from the dems.
I have a 2002 SL2, and I get ~39 MPG. I drive mostly highway (about 90%), and mostly 70 - 80 MPH.
I had a 94 SL1 that got 37 - 42 MPG on the same route. It was decent, but in the SL2 I have way more power and get way more looks from average-looking, middle-class women;) So, I've got that going for me, which is nice.
Awesome. I was waiting for the alarmist 1984 reference. That is what you were getting at, right? The personal attack suggests you're pissed by my post. So, you take it personally that a bad guy was caught by the good guys? The terrorist foolishly believed that his unencrypted emails wouldn't be intercepted. But, they were, and he was caught.
BTW, received is spelled with the 'e' before the 'i'.
CompactFlash should have won this battle by now, dammit!
It's not a battle, really. It's a question of the device. Sure, it would be nice to have a single [cross-platform] standard that everyone can play with. But, a CF card would almost double the size of my MP3 player (MPIO FL100). In the case of small devices (no innuendos, pls.) the US postage stamp-sized SD is the way to go.
Check out O'GIO for some cool bags. Buy them cheap at EBags. I like the "clip", but don't believe the dimentions given for the size of laptop it will accomodate. Read the reviews for more accurate info. This one was too small for my HP Pavilion, so I got the "switch." Check out the "metro" for one of the coolest notebook backpacks made.
I just decided to try FreeBSD a few days ago. I downloaded it, and the name of the file is 5.0-RELEASE-i386-disc1.iso. I thought (from the file name) that this was v5.0. Am I wrong? Is 4.8 really the latest?
If you want blame someone for the war, then blame Bush for insisting that the UN resolutions actually be enforced. Shame on Bush for liberating the Iraqi people -- freeing them from that murderous bastard. Shame on the voters for exercizing their constitutional right. For being sick of having a morally bankrupt democrat for president. Shame on the Republicans for voting with their conscience, and not with what the polls say. Shame on Florida for giving credence to so many idiots who are unable to punch a simple ballot. Shame on the Supreme Court.
I know this is true for MPEG (an MPEG2 decoder will read an MPEG1 stream). But isn't DiVX different? I can't decode a 5.x stream with a 3.x codec. This simple fact illustrates why firmware upgradeability would be a valid concern. When DiVX 6.x comes out (or 5.3 for that matter), this player will be useless.
"Firt of all: we all know that conservative christians are the least likely to be MS customers..."
Why?
For my education, can you provide specific cases where judges "looked at the laws and conventions in other countries?"

Sure, Taco. It MUST be that evil Bush administration. Google has no autonomy, but the other search engines do. Think about it.
Once again, your unfounded political bias shines through as total ignorance.
*cought* bullshit *cough*

SmartFTP - Great free for personal use FTP client, not found a better one yet!
I haven't tried SmartFTP, so maybe it's better, but I really like FileZilla. It does sftp too - great for crypto xfers.

I don't understand your reaction here. A potential terrorist was caught. He wasn't beaten (that you or anyone else knows of.) He will be prosecuted.
So, how is this analogous to a cop "BEATING UP" a criminal? Bottom line: The good guys got the bad guys.

Um, yes you can. Most will work with any [popular] image format, and if not, save it to a TIFF.
Most OCR progs only scan at 100 - 150 DPI. 1 megapixel is more than adequate for an OCR engine.
The exact cause is unknown at this time, but Al Gore and several environmentalist groups are scrambling to find a way to blame it on SUVs.
Damn those SUVs!
