Except it's not possible to do that. Science works when the information is not censored and free to anyone with the skills and knowledge to build on it. One thing that I can think of off the top of my head that somone can use this research for is to make a virus that they can then alter its payload to say deliver gene thearpy with a high success rate.

I can see why they resurrected it though, millions of people use their phones and computers now to store personal information. if you can somehow get them to willingly hand that over you have the modern golden egg laying goose. you can mine that data for ad revenue. use it as leverage to get tax breaks from the governments of the area's you physically store it, in exchange for letting them have access of course.
it's only natural for the beast that is a corporation to try to get into the golden trough of revenue that this is. especially carriers. there is a reason they are clamping down on data usage and it has nothing to do with how much capacity they have. it has everything to do with the money they earn from you while you try to access your personal data off these cloud services.

they chose to scramble for the remaining earth bound resources and a nonsensical fight against a ideal(communism then, then replaced with terrorism now so the same people can profit). rather then spend the same money, effort, and natural resources to set up the basic earth-moon & possibly martian infrastructure so for at least some natural resources we would have a bigger supply. that in turn has closed the window for this species to be be anything other then one which stays on it's own planet or planet with a occasional mission maned or not to their moon/moons and neighboring planets. even a colony ship is out of grasp as we do not have the resources to spare to build the infrastructure to make one in orbit.
i think, the best one can hope for is that the next intelligent species that evolves on this planet after about 250 million years(wither it be our decedents or some creature that is alive now) from now if their timing is as fortunate. will use their natural resources which resulted from our activity(oil and nat gas since they are renewable on a 'geological time scale' the massive plankton blooms we are causing due to our influence on climate will become their oil under the same processes that the Carboniferous era gave us ours.) and the earths plate tectonics bringing more to the surface within reach of any species more wisely and use this one time natural gift to propel them to the stars. This though is not the case with hybrid cars, while the volt is as far as the information i have a slightly better design compared to the Prius and and other's. gas motor connected to a generator which powers both the electric motor's and charges the batteries rather then a gas & electric motor side by side connected by planetary gears & chains to transfer/switch power(Prius and Honda hybrids..). both fail as the article states due to the laws of thermodynamics. to save fuel rather then make the car bigger and heavier by adding another motor and heavy batteries, they should make the car smaller and lighter. the real world mpg numbers of the much maligned smart fortwo match and exceed these real world numbers of the hybrids. replace the poor gas engine in it with a better diesel one and you can get close if not exceed the 'hyped' hybrid numbers. how is this possible?
1. few area's of the country need speeds in excess of 70-75 mph to keep with the flow of traffic and all semi's stay about 65 due to them being gps monitored and the driver's penalized pay wise for speeding. So having a car with a large engine that can go 140 or 150 is not only not needed but a waste, because of that a smaller engine will do the job just fine and will give you higher mpg.
2. make the car as light as possible by;
A. doing away with excess bodywork. taking the smart car and similar smaller cars for example, there is no need to hide the safety frame with another layer of steel or plastic, integrate it into the external design and look of the car.
B. take a page from the smart car and do away with the mostly metal exterior all together. Preferably in the easily replaceable panel system similar to what they have. not only will this make the car lighter but it will save YOU a ton of money. large dents in a normal car can cost up to and over 1200+ dollars to fix. it will take about 1500 dollars to replace all the panels on a smart car. a single panel is less then half the repair cost in the best case of a normal car. not to mention they resist hail damage and minor fender benders far better.
C. Do away with un-used internal space, not every car sold HAS to be able to haul 5 to 7 people. If a person needs a car that has to haul that amount they will get one, those that don't should not be forced to use cars that can. it's a waste and if such waste was eliminated the average fuel economy will easily reach the new car standards if not exceed them.

that's only for a small bit of these cheap psu's. some of them are so horribly made that even low loads can stress the psu.
