But should they be? What if the Nazi party had used the leter 'N' as it's symbol, should the letter be banned in Germany?

Banned, no. But any use of the letter as a symbol of the Nazi regime would be verboten. A friend in mine had a band in Germany. The font used for the letter "S" in their name was somewhat similar to the "lightning bolt" sigil rune worn by members of the SS. The German police became interested in this and actually had a detective interview the band members. When it was apparent that my friend and his bandmates had absolutely no National-Socialist agenda, the cops left them alone.

  8. Re:Why don't they just get it over with? on Computer-Based System To Crack Down On Casino Card Counters · · Score: 1

It's actually quite simple. Rather than banning counters, simply remove their advantage. Card counting works only because the "state" of the deck remains persistent between a number of hands: the results of your last x hands of play affect the probable outcome of your current hand. A casino simply needs to do one simple action to remove any advantage a card counter has.

    Shuffle the deck!

Once the deck is shuffled, the "count" of the shoe resets to 0. Why develop a complex system to try to match the count of the deck to player behavior? Simply have the software signal the dealer to shuffle at the moment the count becomes "hot".

    I think the appeal is that it's a true laissez-faire free-market economy.

There are still regulations. You can't sell or trade a soulbound item to any other player. If you want to sell it, you have to go go a merchant who offers you a fixed price. This game mechanic is actually a pretty good control on inflation.

Also, if you look at guilds, you see a system that's more reminiscent of Communism. Each guild member contributes (either to other players or to the Guild bank) according to their "ability", and takes according to their "need". This system is "centrally planned" by the Guild leader and officers.

But what simply cannot be overlooked, is at the core of WoW's economy, is good, old-fashioned militaristic imperialism. You want something another guy has, so you beat him over the head and take it.

  24. Re:It was designed for kids on Poor Design Choices In the Star Wars Universe · · Score: 1
Yes, rough edges. But no contradiction that can't be resolved with a little bit of Star Wars apologetics! :) Obi Wan never "forgot" that Luke had a sister. He merely stated "That boy is our last hope". Leia had been raised to be the political resistance to the Empire, whereas Luke was raised to be martial (Jedi) resistance to it. If Luke were to fail, Leia would have to start her Jedi training from scratch (at a much older age than Luke was when he started), while also trying to balance her leadership of the Alliance.

Remember Luke asking Leia if she remembers her real mother? Remember her reply? It does not tally with Leia's birth and Padme's death.

Well, from a certain Point of View, it does. ;)

LUKE Leia... do you remember your mother? Your real mother?

LEIA Just a little bit. She died when I was very young.

    LUKE What do you remember?

    LEIA Just...images, really. Feelings.

    LUKE Tell me.

LEIA She was very beautiful. Kind, but...sad.

Nothing that Leia mentions here contradicts what happened at the end of RoTS. Recall that, like Luke, Leia is the child of the most powerful Jedi ever to live. Her attunement to the Force gives her faint recollections of the past (Through the Force, things you will see.. other places. The future, the horizon, old friends, long gone). In the brief time Padme was alive to see her children, she made that imprint on Leia.

Now, before you accuse me of stretching ;) you must remember that Luke, as well had a memory of his mother, although he never connected it with her. Remember Padme's dying words:

There is still good in him, Obi-wan...

Do you find it a coincidence that Luke would tell Obi-wan those exact words twenty five years later? Obi-wan never expected that Vader could be saved after their first battle together. Obi-wan felt that the only way to set things right was for Luke to kill Vader. But had Luke done this, it would have been out of his fear and hatred, and the Emperor would simply take him as his new apprentice. It was Padme's "advice" to Luke that set him on a mission not to "Kill" Vader, but instead to "Save" Anakin.
