My grandpa breaks everything despite it being Windows XP.
Every two months... the printer doesn't work, the taskbar is 'missing', the screen won't turn on...
You know what would save half of the world's problems and increase productivity? Killing all printer manufacturers. How the fuck is it in the age of USB and memory protected OS's that printers still don't work seamlessly?
The issue isn't that the woman doesn't want to pay for XP. She wants to get XP without paying for an unrelated and exta OS.
The issue is that she doesn't want to be forced to buy something that she isn't going to use to buy something she does want.
Just because she can't get XP pre-installed for no additional cost from a vendor of her choosing...
...does not mean that she can't find a different vendor or build her own machine with XP.
There are copies of XP out there - buy them! If Dell were her only method of getting a computer with XP, that would be one thing. But it's not - there are alternative options.
I also wonder if they are trying to be 'good' before the day of judgment comes. And by that, I mean health care reform in the US. Or perhaps a drug company bailout of some sort.
I'm just thinking: if one of the US car manufacturers had been extra pursuant of green technologies, or even just displayed some sort of extra good will, they'd probably have gotten better treatment at the bailout hearings.
They were both trying to beat each other to mapping that particular area of ocean for Google.
You see, Google Maps announced that it will map the ocean floor. In order to do this, they just pay a small fee for each (new) square nautical mile of photographs they receive. Much like they did with people getting business information/photographs a while back.
Due to the recent recession, Britain and France are looking for additional income. So they ordered their nuclear subs to do freelance mapping for Google.
their stance on the Iraq war was both reasonable and correct. Why the grudge?
We made fun of the French long before the Iraq War. I imagine it will continue until WW2 is a footnote in history. The meme gained some popularity before and during the invasion of Iraq, but is unrelated. Whether it's a deserved stereotype is another story...
It comes in many ways. Money, power, or just giving your ideas the consideration they deserve.
Whenever something breaks, I'm the one they turn to. Whenever something difficult needs to be done, my team consults me.
Then every once in awhile my lead will consult me on something, but will give me crap until I come back with the answer he wants to hear rather than the real answer. Usually the reason is because sales/management is involved. It's just disheartening, especially for the length of time I've been here.
I hope the rumor about the clam shell iPhone is true... I want an iPhone (mainly for work reasons), but having a bare screen on an expensive device is kinda like... not wearing a jock strap while playing football.

The people who understand software and software patents well enough to understand what's going on already dislike Microsoft.
Except those that work at Microsoft. And other companies whom derive income from software patents.
or use GIMP, which is harder than programming an OS.
It's funny cause it's true.
My company uses SharePoint *and* a wiki.
I guess that makes us as confused as I suspected.
Public schools are not for learning. They're free daycare with some educational benefits.

Maybe the prosecution is just a show to keep the RIAA et al happy that "something" is being done.
Those are all very good points.

And when do they have time to drink these beers, if they're working 12 hours a day 7 days a week?
From what I understand, it was for therapy to recover from working at EA.
How about just plain ol' respect?

What, I thought the blue E icon was the internet! I don't get it!
Personally, I think he should adopt a bunch of cats AND put out the poison. But I guess this is why I'm not a consultant.
I'm pretty sure college students don't have $13,000 in credit on a single card.
The OP must have been talking about a fairly cheap car.
Nevermind, ignore that. I fail reading comprehension.
Anyway it's probably chicken-egg syndrome. You can't sell virus scanners for Linux (yet), so why advertise them.
$100 - $20 - $20 - $40 - $30 = -$10
If they crap up your computer enough, OP is right. And I quite suspect that is the case.
Well, you don't have slavery anymore, something which would disgust the founding fathers.
Uh... are you being sarcastic, or are you just this clueless? Thomas Jefferson was a big time slave owner.
You're making the false assumption that their opponents would have done any better.
Sometimes (most times?) it's the situation and not the man that causes certain events to unfold.
If people supported GNUStep and push Apple to help it, Linux would have a lot of OS X software ports now and even Apple software in the future.
Do not want. If I wanted a Mac, I'd get a Mac.
Additionally, I'm learning Objective C for work, and I'd like to keep its ugliness as far away from my personal life as possible.
I just taught my girlfriend how to watch Hulu with our spare PS3 using the web browser. It's not that hard.
You're new to this aren't you?

Buy a passive heatsink.
Line the case with Dynamat (or flashing tape if you're cheap).
Buy only the best fans.
He's the head of a union/guild. His job is to ask for more than what they really want, and then get what they want via negotiation.
And what they want is a piece of the pie!
