"If legal action is taken against a Commonwealth department or agency through a dispute on third party software, the agency reserves the right to withdraw, leaving the legal battle -- including all costs incurred and all penalties applied -- to the contractor."... then how many contractors are going to be willing to recommend Linux systems...

While that may be true, they do have a committed, well defined roadmap -- sue everyone everywhere who runs a "unix" platform (unless of course it's from sco)
"The server space is easier to tackle first with any operating system as it can be applied to specific tasks such as mail serving; however, the desktop is harder to sell." This may be true but it sure isn't impossible. It will just take some time. Can't run until you can first crawl.
Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Microsoft pursure licensing or incorporation of the Mortice Kern Software (MKS Toolkit) a while back (like their SFU 1.x release). MKS has had a nice set of tools for using Unix(like) commands in MS Windows. MKS is still is a pretty good product too IMHO.
I agree! I had an issue with my provider a while ago regarding running my own web server behind a router and was threatened with unacceptable use. That was until I dug up the orginal contract that said I could do that!
My creditors lower their interest rates to a level commensurate with the level of pay I would then be receiving. After all, double digit interest rates on credit cards far exceed that offered by banking institutions on money deposited in their vaults. While we're at it, lower the cost of living, cost of food, homes, cars, utilities, and other commodities to allow people to work at a lower cost level found in off shore countries. Don't get me started here but I think that it is a two way street!
letting me buy one license for home use and letting me install it on those machines that I own! The cost can get pretty step for a household when computing as a hobby and having more than 1, 2, or 3 machines... afterall - I don't feel like buying 6 licenses of XP Professional for each of my boxes... as least I can buy a copy of Linux and put it on multiple boxes! Until then... Linux is my choice!

Now I can walk around looking like a high-tech docking station. Wonder what the neighbors will think.
