Now that the #1 Superficial complaint about gimp has been taken care of, maybe when people continue to not use it, the developers will realize the actual horrible UI decisions they made in the past, and fix those.
The majority of feature requests are actually related to make GIMP not just an image manipulation program (ie: to make it a mixed up program like Photoshop) which have been repeatedly denied for that reason.
Where's that world of wonder where everything is possible and I'm a superman?
Provided you have a decent computer that can handle content that is not prerendered (due to the dynamic nature of such a virtual world, it's not really possible to prerender), you could try Second life.
Use Mac OS X for only a month, after that your eyes will bleed by watching anything rendered with ClearType.
I've used OS X for years and to this day, I still find fonts look like shit on it. Especially since I like them small. Worst it, you try tweaking that stupid font setting to set the minimum to apply it's stupid crap on and most applications and Windows don't abide by the setting. OH I CAN FEEL THE INTEGRATION, IT'S SOOO SEAMLESS!
In Windows 7 you don't run as administrator by default, and it comes with a firewall.
The firewall didn't stop me getting infected by some worm on a work network I connected to. I don't even share folders or printers, why the hell does my system have ports open and frack you firewall for blocking my game hosting constantly and breaking me out of fullscreen to popup dialogs, but not the crap on 137, 138 and 139. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate.
What security features are you talking about?
I assume he means the no public running services by default which Windows still fails at.
Assuming this "Internet driver license" is a good idea, I wonder who should do the preparation, who should do the testing, and what type of office should hand out the certification.
What the hell are you talking about? The article talks about identification, not certifications.
If B&N is giving the 3rd party client all the card info, then there could be some problems. But even then, the big no-no is how the CVV code is handled. So long as it isn't stored anywhere outside of ram and that it is discarded once the transaction is made, the PCI folks don't give a damn as far as I can tell.
It could be a hashed version of the entire card credentials to make a 'unique' identifier for the person to figure out what products to target to their customers and what they keep coming back for etc.
Why is anyone still using the pro packages given what Blender can do for free?
Apparently despite the fact it has virtually everything a 3d artist wants, the UI is horrible. The UI however was not initially designed by the FOSS community.
Ever tried to use Blender?
Yes.
It'll have you run screaming for Maya before the day is out.
I can't figure out Maya.
Most open source graphics software is more about what the programmers want than the end users.
If that's the case then Blender would not be running production studios to figure out what problems are with the software and then fixing them.
There's some amazing open source software like Open Office, I'd pay for it quicker than Microsoft Office.
You can, it's called Staroffice.
Gimp is perfectly usable so long as you aren't doing high end graphics for publishing.
GIMP is fine, you just need to know how to use it. A lot of people complain about the lack of CMYK color profiles, I figured out how to set them up myself - obviously the people who tried it never bothered to learn the software properly. It is not Photoshop, the software's design goal is just for image manipulation and many people don't seem to get that.
Open source still needs to catch up.
It's nothing to do with the development philosophy catching up though. It's the exact same issue that proprietary developers would be having if they were developing CAD software from scratch.
In Brazil, we have a "rescue omission" ("omissão de socorro") law: if you're involved in an accident and escape the place leaving an injured peerson without helping or calling the paramedics, you're in for an extra charge (the aforementioned).
Has anyone ever successfully (or even attempted to) sued a shrink-wrap software company for failing to support a product once the company has suffered spontaneous existence failure?
In the UK, it's happened plenty of times. Don't know about the USA.
Perhaps the GP should have said "cracked" rather than merely "pirated".
x3 reunion and x3 terran conflict were never cracked.
Then consider yourself lucky that you never bought a game that damaged your CD drive
Nope, I buy Steam games.
Or "allowed" a forced update that bricked your PS3
Nope, I buy Steam games.
Or had to run two years of MBR-overwriting tax software simultaneously
No idea what that is.
Or simply wanted to skip the 27-language FBI (etc) warning on your new DVD purchase.
That's easy, just hit the main menu key.
But hey, you've had good luck with DRM
It's nothing to do with luck, I investigate what I purchase. It isn't my fault you're a moron and can't investigate what you're purchasing yourself.
Regardless of what you (and the law) say, the vast majority of people consider such content as their property.
I don't care what they consider. I can believe I live in fantasy world, doesn't make it the case - The law doesn't care much about what you 'think', it cares what you 'do'. So, wake up, Mr. Pla. Wake up and smell the ashes.
The last pirated games I looked at had all the DRM still. Examples of this were when x3: reunion and x3: terran conflict came out, until the day Egosoft removed DRM on them, the pirate versions had the exact same DRM and were more likely to have problems due to the DRM driver software being updated by other newer games with the same DRM system being installed and thus the whole 'cd emulation' software workaround wouldn't help.
So, I have no idea where you get this whole 'superior' idea from.
Pirated games treat me like admin of my own computer.
Yeah, I'm not big on administrating a single player game. I just want to install and go, fortunately, my legitimate purchases have all been like that.
First of all, GIMP is a Image Manipulation Program, not Photoshop which is some bastardization of a paint program, vector art and image manipulation.
Secondly, GIMP's goal is not to be clone of Photoshop. You could use GNUPhotoshop or something.
... Click the Text tool -- Just like Photoshop and click where you want the text to appear -- Just like Photoshop. It really isn't that difficult.
The majority of feature requests are actually related to make GIMP not just an image manipulation program (ie: to make it a mixed up program like Photoshop) which have been repeatedly denied for that reason.
You could always use Windows or Linux instead then. GIMP works fine on those platforms too.
Since when do you call people from India "Native Americans" or "Indigenous people within the United States"?
Provided you have a decent computer that can handle content that is not prerendered (due to the dynamic nature of such a virtual world, it's not really possible to prerender), you could try Second life.
Personally, I'd call it a license for a driver used to access the Internet such as TCP/IP.
Okay fine. If you want to talk about a single sentence out of the entire article, go ahead.

I wouldn't have room to sleep in my bed if all books I owned digitally were actual physical books.
*shrugs* I don't buy DRM.
It could be a hashed version of the entire card credentials to make a 'unique' identifier for the person to figure out what products to target to their customers and what they keep coming back for etc.

Yes, it's actually a crime to not help someone in need in France. You thought wrong.
I know this law exists in France too.
I heard one over the radio today.
Oh would you look at that, it just has the binary that Egosoft provided when they removed the DRM from the game, but thanks for trying!
In the UK, it's happened plenty of times. Don't know about the USA.

The ex-directors of the company can still be sued.

Not your software however, software is licensed.
VLC is not legal in the USA. Software patents and all that.
A pretty good one, if you look at most religions.
Sure. I have no problem doing that. How do I go about doing that?
On a website I regular:
The Big Bang Theory - 3x12 - The Psychic Vortex (MHD) - 175 MB
