I thought gentoo sounded great until I tried to install it. The manual was telling me to cp a directory that did not exist, and the disc only seemed to contain one kernel. (I wanted the gaming kernel)
And all this emerge sync all stuff would be great if I had broadband and could utilize all those new packages. The gentoo faqs made sure to point out that a netless install was possible, which it seemed to be but just barely.
I guess I'll stick with suse until I can convince my wife to give in and get cable or dsl, but with a new baby on the way I doubt that will happen.
Exactly!
Given a choice between doing the right thing and paying more for it or paying less because you have the option not to. This is the failure of trickle down economics ("voodoo economics" as ben stein would say) Giving more money to rich people in the hopes that they will invest it in the rest of is foolish. Rich people became rich by being greedy (I mean the truly super rich, the ken lays and jeff skillings, not honest business men) and have a tendency keep their money. Or as Mr. Burns so beautifully put it "Eternal happiness for one dollar . . . I think I'd be happier with the dollar."
Voulntary cost increases, will probably work as well as W's voulntary pollution regulations for power plants. A corporation exixts to make money for it's shareholders, and any CEO would likely get voted off the island at the next shareholders meeting if he (yes they are mostly men) did not meet earnings expectations. Any cost cutting will be accepted and justified as a means of staying profitable.
Business and government are hopelessly intertwined. Take a look at the congressmen pushing antipriracy legislation through, and compare it to congressmen that receive campaign contributions from recording companies. When money buys influence we need to pay attention to what the people with the money do. Because it will be a preview of what its lobbyists will try in the next session of congress. Company policies are one thing, but legal protection for you policies are even better.
Nvidia drivers make the center of my screen fuzzy, (3d is fab though) I'm wondering if they are worth it, if I have to move all of my small text to the periphery of the screen to be able to read it.

This gripe session has ended.
Pretty soon we will be fighting wars with edged weapons again. Unless of course they come out with lasguns.

That is why I never want to work in a salaried position. Unions Rock!
Another astounding success in the Bush Administration's No Billionaire Left Behind program.

At last! truely portable pornography!
"Come on lets go to the stoning."
Yeah, why cant they just call halliburton instead?
I'd like to see a movie based on Lucifer's Hammer. It's more about life after the comet hits than the struggle for bruce willis to blow it up.
I'm waiting for my 5500 in the mail too. I can't wait to see what it can do with some console emulators.
