"If this goes ahead, it will be in violation of the 1967 Outer Space Treaty which forbids the militarization of space."
Since when did the US care about treaties, Kyoto, Geneva, Nuclear Non-Proliforation? Need I go on?
I would really like a heads up display in my car, showing things like velocity, engine temp, fuel level, and the like. Imagine not having to look down at the dash or the radio. It seems a lot safer to me.
While I'm on the subject of safety I would also want foreward looking infrared radar, for the numerous foggy days we have in the califorina central valley. I can picture the dialogue with my kids now
KIDS:"I can't believe you guys didn't have a HUD or FLIR in your cars! How did you see in the fog or the dark?"
MUCH OLDER ME: "Well we couldn't really see anything, a lot of people died in accidents."
Maybe I paraphrased improperly. The passage comes from the introduction to Herber's book Eye. He was elaborating on Lord Ashton idea about absolute power corrupting absolutely. Herbert believes that power attracts corruptable people.
It goes back to the "Gladiator" theory of leadership, that the best leaders are the reluctant ones, who do not want power but feel it to be their duty shoulder it. And when they have finished what they need to do, they in the tradition of Cincinnatus, refuse the emperorship, beat their swords into plowshears and go back to their farms.
Also the reason I think clinton is dangerously ambitious, He made a comment after leaving office that the term limit rules should be altered to allow someone who has served two terms as president to re-run after 15 or 20 years. He has thirsted for power his whole life and is still not satisfied after two terms, as president and two terms as Arkansas governor.
Yeah, but who in their right mind would want to be president other than power hungry megalomaniac? Did you know that Bill Clinton admits to wanting to be president of the united states since he was a boy? That sound dangerouly ambitious to me.(sigh) What ever happened to Cincinnatus?
My favorite quote about power comes from Frank Herbert, (paraphrase) "'Absolute power corrupts absoultly'? I think absoulte power attracts the corruptable' is more accurate."
You are correct, however calling what I do "computer science" is an insult to coders everywhere. That doesn't make IT work easy, It's just not the same thing. It's similar calling a politician a "political scientist" which is not fair to real scientists like chemists and physicists.
Speaking as someone who has taken four semesters of cisco classes, plugging in a router is a lot different than writting the firmware. CCNA is IT work not CS work.
Linux comes in different flavors for different people with different goals and needs. I'm not criticising suse for being easy to use, I'm thrilled that there are distros out there like suse and mandarke and redhat that people like my mom could use. It's just not what I wan't out of a linux box.
Well if your computer is a tool to you, that you need to work all the time (like my mom and my wife, pattern??)then great, use suse, as I said *it works*.
But if you are like me and you computer is more of a hobby, then I would recommend slackware or gentoo or debian.
And by the way I recompile my kernel for usb networking with my sharp zaurus, not video drivers:)
I used suse for two releases (9 and 9.1) and I really liked it. For the most part it just worked, I think even my mom could have used it just fine. But I rarely learn anything about my system by having it work all the time. I've learned more about linux by using slackware, which has very few gui tools, and a lot of cli tools.
In suse my wheel mouse was setup automatically, in slackware it worked perfectly AFTER I researched the problem with google and found the lines to add to my xorg.conf file.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that suse is great but it's not for everyone, not me anyway.
Here's my little test:
1. Opened pdf
2. hit print scrn button (screen shot)
3. opened ms paint, I'm at work, no linux:(
4. pasted screen shot
5. printed screen shot
6. have fake $50
Boy was that tough.
I would like to point out that according to us magazine, Paris Hilton carries a phone cam. I wonder how long will we have to wait before the vids are out on kazaa?
I assure you sir, that I would never take advantage of the undereducated in such a blatant manner. I am currently only providing slackware, whose users are not likely to be taken in by the scam you described. If you are interested, my ebay name is 'lordkimbot' please look me up and review my 100% positive feedback rating.
I sell OSS on ebay, and we are not taking advantage of the uninformed. I like to think we are providing a service to all the poor modem users out there who cannot download a multi-cd set of software. Besides I only charge a small "media fee" and shipping.
Firebird was renamed due to copyright issues with another browser named 'firebird.' Since the mozilla people have not reanamed thunderbird, I will assume there is not a similarily named mail project.

I don't know if Our Mayor (Yes Fresno's mayor really is "In the Heat of the Night's" Alan Autry) even knows what Wi-Fi is.
Duh!
Is this really news?
Don't you mean Eastasia?

I think it's mostly a pr move by adobe. Besides my hp does not support holographic ink anyway.

I'll refrain from making a really bad Wrath of Kahn joke now.
Hollywood makes movies that are designed to make money. Not movies that are good. Don't forget, capitalism rules over art unless good art makes money.
I prefer Arthur C Clark's definition of SF vs Fantasy. (paraphrase) "Science fiction is what CAN happen, fantasy is what you would WANT to happen"
"Now lets burn down the observatory so this never happens again!"

Then some marketing exec with no knowledge of american slang would try to sell us a small car called the Choad.
