Last time I came back across the border in a car from Canada (with a group of Americans), our group had packed our passports in our luggage, thinking that we would not need them, since they were not required when crossing TO Canada.
However, when we tried to just show the US immigration agent our driver's licenses, they made us pull over, get out our passports, and take them inside.
That was over a year ago, so either that particular agent was extra strict, or this has been the policy for a while.

Stern went on a 10 minute rant about it this morning.
Basically he said that Powell didn't deserve to be there, and was only there because of his dad (which he's said many times before). He also said that it probably wouldn't make any difference, because the Bush administration is still in power, and they will probably find someone who is just as bad or worse than Powell was about trying to enforce "indecency standards". That was followed up by calling Powell basically a two-faced liar who said that indecency should be controlled by the market, then "cowtowing" to pressure from the large conglomerate radio organizations, and allowing a few organizations to become very powerful in radio.

  14. Re:CVS on Windows Source Control for the Lone Developer? · · Score: 1

You seen to know quite a bit about CVS.
We are having a problem with CVS at my work. There is a program which we have that is meant for generating HTML called RoboHelp HTML. When we generate our HTML help files, it ends up clearing all of the files (and directories) out of the generated directory and replacing them with "generated files". When it does this, it removes the important "CVS" directory that is in there, and replaces it with a copy of another "CVS" directory. It totally screws up CVS and we never seem to be able to recover it, so we end up having to use a completely different source control system for these files.
Any ideas how to resolve this?

If you're a boxing fan, you should check out HBO Boxing After Dark. It's fairly high quality boxing, decent names, etc. Comes on most Saturdays. Last weekend, they were in Little Rock, Arkansas (woo pig sooie!), and a local middleweight (Jermain Taylor) showed one of the best jabs I've ever seen.
Also, ESPN Friday night fights has some decent fights sometimes.

  17. Look at the content! on You're Watching Less TV · · Score: 1

The reason that we watch less TV is that because there is less interesting stuff for us to watch as the channels are filled up with meaningless and boring reality TV shows. What the hell do I care if the loser from Average Joe hooks up with a hot chick? It's boring! Even the so called "Man Show" sucks. So does "Spike TV". We're not completely mindless.
I imagine that a few channels' ratings have actually gone up (like Discovery channel, Comedy Central and HBO), but as a whole, the major networks are lame and boring, and definitely not providing us shows that we actually care to watch.
Actually, I hope they continue to do it it...TV's expensive anyway. Plus, it's healthier to get off your couch and go do something outside.
