I have a biiig question. i have windows and ubuntu, can i still install linux on the iphone? i suspect that files you published are only for mac osx
This isn't as stupid as it sounds (though one hopes they RTFA'd.) I recall trying to put Linux on my Nintendo DS, only to find that installing it (without using additional hardware) required... Windows. I'm not sure if that situation has changed since, but it was a major disappointment and WTF at the time.
That's been changed a long time ago.
Actually, it isn't even that accurate of a statement, since installing doesn't require any specific type of OS (as long as you can place the files on the media).
What you're referring to is compiling, which (as far as I know) required not Windows, but Linux (I would even goes as far as to say this was always the case as, currently, compiling DSLinux for windows instructions instruct the user/developer to download a Linux live distro).
I hope fires have also been removed as a result of California fires, tornadoes as a result of the Indian ocean tsunami and the big monster invasion as a result of Cmdr Taco. Other wise it wouldn't be very respectful for the victims you know. Quoted for truth.
I'm glad it works for you. I've started using Linux almost 4 years ago, have tried various distro's and have recently switched from Gentoo to OpenBSD (and about to make a leap to FreeBSD) and Gentoo has been the best Linux experience I've had yet (Ubuntu was far and away the worst. I hate having everything preconfigured and set-up for beginners).
I never said I agree with their decision to force people to hear it. I'm just saying I respect Fripp and his work and I'm interested in hearing it. However good it may be, I still would turn it off.
Oh, only the most fantastic guitarist I know of.
He was in Giles, Giles & Fripp before founding the band King Crimson.
He's known for his soundscapes (Frippertronics) and his increadibly fast and bizarre (machine-like) guitar play.
I have to say, I'm not much of a fan of Microsoft, but I have to admit they made a real good move getting Robert Fripp to do the soundscapes for their product.
For me personally (and this'll probably be rated redundant) it doesn't matter, I make use of the AdBlock plugin for Mozilla (also available to Mozilla FireFox) which does the trick nicely (with a few good regular expressions -- there's even an added plugin that keeps a list of regular expressions for AdBlock).
I don't see many ad's anymore (if at all) but I can imagine to some (who use different browsers or know not of AdBlock or similar plugins) it would affect them.
I've been using a user account and "sudo" since my learning days (some years ago) and I feel it's very good practice.
I "su" only when I actually need to (not that often, mainly when I do a lot of maintenance i.e. kernel upgrades and the likes) which is, in my opinion, the way people should be doing it.
"I mean, if you have 1 GB+, why in the world would you want more?" You sound just like Bill Gates.:-)
But I do agree on your points, though. Shame it got voted "-1".
I'm glad this finally reached SlashDot.

I'm glad this finally got placed on SlashDot. This could really use the publicity.
I wish I could be of more use to the DS' community myself, but I lack a GBA flash card and the experience to code anything for the DS(/GBA).
I may buy a GBA flash card some time soon, though. I've already bought a RaLink Wifi card to be able to send (Nintendo RSA signed) demo's to the DS from my PC and hopefully (but doubtebly) also unsigned (homebrew) code somewhere in the future.
You could check out Damn Small Linux, which is a very small Linux distro.
You can install it to your hard-disk, too.
I, for instance, installed it onto a 200 MB hard-disk in my PentiumMMX. Runs really well.

What, no mention of the Pandora?
I know it's not really a netbook but still..

It's all down to the user's taste.

For more on his work for Microsoft see this: http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/1/c/81cd

Or maybe even read Robert Fripp's page on WikiPedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Fripp
Natrium42 made the exact same thing a year ago, and I don't recall this being mentioned on SlashDot before..
Thanks for that link to the HOSTS file for ad blocking, I've just added the relevant lines to my /etc/hosts file. :-)

Thank you. ^__^
Sorry if already said, but: 1+3+3=7
They're only a few years behind, no biggy.
:-().
Seriously, though, I've been wanting this for years.
Shortcuts just don't cut it (get it? Sorry.

The word "woot" (also; "w00t") has been said to be an acronym, not just a word, meaning:
We Own the Other Team
Redundant, but still (if you don't want to download a movie file):

Well... someone patented the 37 hour work-week, and got it.. so who knows.
All this talk about primes and calculators and such.
If only they had it in the Cube.
I'll trade you a Gmail account for one of those.
What do you say?
Think about it, 1 GB!
