Last time I checked, you didn't need to use NetWare for the server. NT is just fine. Back in the days, you could use OS/2 and I think UnixWare as well.
I strongly disagree about the web interface. I don't have any idea which version you use, but the current version is way way ahead of anything Outlook WebAccess has.
Novell's GroupWise is a full-featured collaboration suite (and I don't mean just client, but server, too), including document and form management, and a very nice web interface.
The calendaring and collaboration features of GroupWise beat Outlook+Exchange pants down. Or was it hands down?
You're kidding? To have an idea of what is Microsoft's attitude towards this issue, just check msnbc website. No, I don't think MS would just kill Flash, I think they would include it into every aspect of your web experience, possibly driving some of us nuts.
Like MS wants to do something that would preserve sanity:o)
Come on now, can't you see what's due? Try to imagine what would you do if someone came into your garden and said "hey, this is my house and my garden". Would you start arguing with the guy? I sure wouldn't. I would probably: - Tell him to get his ass outta here or else I'll call the cops - Call the cops - Use physical force (aided by appropriate tools) to get the guy off my property but sure as hello I would -not- argue with him. If I would argue, I would give a very small legitimity to the claim. And he'd take it from there and get more and more obnoxious, so I would really have to kick his ass.
Why should NASA refute these crackpot claims, argue with sleazy journalists in search for fame? You don't argue these outrageosly stupid allegations, because if you do, you give them at least a little bit of validity.
Dump it like Nokia did? Nokia never used any of the Microsoft mobile software... I wonder why I am even explaining this: Nokia is a major force behind the Symbian initiative. None of the Nokia phones ever used any of the Microsoft software. Not only that: none of Nokia's terminals or wireless devices or routers (yep, Nokia now sells some interesting routers/firewalls, too) uses anything by Microsoft. They use Symbian, Linux or *BSD.
Please tell me you are not saying this is the same as Tschaikowsky's ballet music? That it has a comparable cathartic effect, that it can inspire you, make you smile and dance like "The Nutcracker"?
You are quite right. But not only this: I will explicitly say that even if they publish the DTD, they can still have a format that is NOT represented correctly by any other office suite, but their's. That's because having the DTD does not help you in the representation of the content. And yet, you could still contain representation information in the XML document, but that content would be not documented. So, yeah, you have the DTD, you can validate the XML document, and still you have no f*cking clue how to represent it: how should this thing look like, how does it print?
OK, that sentence, well, it was more my thinking aloud. Of course Terminator 2 is NOT the only good sequel ever. I think it is one of the better sequels, but as I added later, the Godfather trilogy, Evil Dead II and III, 2010 as a sequel to 2001 is very good (although 2001 is outstanding), Sergio Leone's "Man without a name" trilogy... yeah, I have met some worthy sequels, and now you make me regret for thinking aloud for a moment. You're not being quite fair;o)
Now, to your point: I totally agree! They didn't develop all that much on the basic idea, now did they? However, the reason I enjoyed Terminator 2 was in part because I found interesting the idea that humans managed to utilize their enemie's weapon, by reprogramming it, I liked the idea of Arnold switching sides, and the new model of Terminator - a shape shifter. And I thought it was really well directed and visually appeasing. So, it had a few things going for it.
However, a third remake, which actually doesn't seem to bring nothing new compared to Terminator 2? No thanks. I'll maybe see it on TV when it comes out in a few years, out of curiosity. Maybe.
I have already seen Terminator 2! Oh this -is- a new episode? Terminator 3? I thought it should be somehow different from the previous two episodes. I thought these people are PAID to be original and creative.
Joking apart, I am not going to waste my time and money in watching a pathetic re-make of Terminator 2. I wish nobody did, because it's about time that the habit of sqeezing out the last cent from a franchise while adding NO NEW IDEAS, came to an end.
Didn't like any of those movies. I mean, not only the sequel, but the original movies. I didn't see Two Towers yet, so I reserve my judgement on that. But I did watch the whole Mad Max series, the Star Wars series and Back to the Future series... really NOT my type of movies. And certainly not SciFi. Star Wars? Western in space. bah
In fact, I have none of those movies in my otherwise rather large DVD collection. sorry to disappoint you.
OK, here IS another sequel that was really good: Evil Dead III. Both Evil Dead II and III were great, even though very different in concept, available budget and style. Evil Dead I, well, I don't really count that one in the series, it was more a (good) proof of concept.
So, you're of the opinion the universe will, after all, implode?;o) Have you got evidence of the existence of the "dark matter", to make up for the necessary mass?
BTW, I agree with your view of the sequels. I thought ALL the Alien sequels were lame compared to the original. Actually, Terminator 2 was the only good sequel I can think of, ever. Let me think...... NO, I was wrong, the Godfather trilogy is totally awesome. But I think that's really it.
Aphrodite X? They translated that as "Aphrodite A" in the italian version of the series... which was called "Mazinga Z", btw. Memories from my childhood. Sheesh, "Mazinga Z" was aired in Italy 20 years ago!
What I was most surpirised to see is that the dupe wasn't posted by CmdrTaco. The other guys, with the exception of Hemos and Robilmo, seemed pretty pedantic about it. Well, pedantic in Slashdot terms, at least. Notice how other similar sits, like OSNews.com and theregister.co.uk never post dupes, even though the amount of news items is about the same. Not to say that The Register has tons of original material, so the people there actually do something. And OSNews has a lot of original material, too, but there much of it is contributed by community members (which is great!).
Oh yes, you're quite right, I recall now. The reason why I might have mis-remembered is, perhaps, because DEC seemed quite interested in Himalaya, and has both used some of the techs with it's clusters, and invested man/hours into it. Himalaya somehow fitted rather smugly into DEC.
But as far as I know, the Himalaya was a project from DEC. Compaq had no input to the project, they just aquired it with DEC and let the original engineers continue working on it.
Well, yes, you are of course correct, but I too, feel a bit dismayed about this aquisition. I liked the stuff Lineo was doing, and I thought they were on the right path to helping the embedded Linux market to real (non-hyped) success, based on real strenghts of linux.
I think Lineo was one of the more interesting assets of the Canopy group. But perhaps not the most profitable?
But what if a famous and rich person with an attitude towards lawsuits (like De Caprio) just copies their music, makes an album and becomes even more filthy rich, on the expense of these guy's creativity and work?
Yes, it has. The original story was posted by Taco, then some guy posted a dupe, and then Taco posted another dupe.. not to be outdone, I guess. So, not only was a story re-posted twice, but it was also a case were the same moderator posted both the original story and a dupe.
Unfortunately, I don't remember what the story was.
The story? It was about Google publishing their APIs. Nothing earth-shattering, I guess.

I thought it was 2.3 billion in installments of 20 years, so it would be about 115 million a year?!
Can't wait.
Please do wait. Think: maybe this movie is not worth your time, maybe it sucks? Maybe it's a carbon copy of Terminator 2?
Maybe, just maybe, you are not a headless sheep that will be brought to watch whatever shit Hollywood poops out just to get to your buck?
I have already seen Terminator 2!

Hey Bruce, what doyou have against Slackware? ;o>
No no no, I was just joking. I thought people would know it, after that story got posted 3 TIMES! ..or... or was yours a joke, too?
..Slashdot should post the news that Google has opened the specs to their APIs!
