Yes, this isn't a problem for many NES and SNES games. Vimm's Lair has a large amount of scanned game manuals, although mostly only for the more popular games.
On the other hand, if it was just about graphics, FFX or X-2 would have easily won. Obviously people aren't just voting for FF7's "ohhhh, shiney" factor, because there's plenty of other shinier FFs these days.
Of course, I was somewhat annoyed that Final Fantasy Tactics was nowhere to be found. Oh well.
Agreed. If it's not that serious, they should just choose their favorite 64 games to start with. After all, everyone has their own personal favorite game, and GameSpy couldn't possibly include them all for qualifying.
At least the GameFAQs character battles don't try and fool anyone into thinking they're actually measuring the best game characters ever. They're pretty much unashamed popularity contests, but it's still interesting to see how people vote.
Yes, I realized that after I posted. It's annoying how Slashdot doesn't let you edit your posts, isn't it?
Anyway, it is kind of funny that I mistakenly called them Infinitum. Freudian slip?
Shouldn't Infinitum Labs be more concerned about, you know, getting some sort of product out on the market? The fact that they're suing seems to prove that the Phantom is nothing more than vaporware. If you have an actual product that's actually going to be worth buying, suing only pisses your customers off. If Infinitum Labs was really worried about the claims made against them, they should try and disprove that information or at least put an optimistic spin on it.
So, to Infinitum Labs, I say this: release your console! At the very least, demonstrate that this isn't some ploy to bilk money out of investors. What's that, Infinitum Labs? You say you can't do that?
Yeah, most games based on movies tend to suck. The Hollywoodization (wee, I made up a word!) of games probably isn't a good thing.
On the other hand, actors can sometimes add to a game. English voice acting in games is usually horrible, but when done by real actors, it's usually pretty good. Even without the voice acting, it's interesting to see people you already know playing video game characters. Was I the only one who liked Mark Hammil in the Wing Commander series?
It's funny how you go on about the numerous studies that prove the horrible effects violent videogames have on minors, yet you don't mention a single one. Where's your sources? I don't recall hearing about any study that concluded violent videogames will turn your children into depraved killing machines. You say that "we know" it's bad, but you've offered no more proof than anyone who says it isn't bad.
There's definitely a problem with parents not monitoring their children enough. However, I don't think the solution is more government intervention. After all, laws regulating alcohol and tobacco are working perfectly, right? No minors ever smoke or drink! Bad parenting can't be negated by laws that are easy to get around, and your examples of alcohol and tobacco demonstrate just that.
I don't see any problem with the system the way it is. The games are clearly rated, and the back of the box even includes why the games were given that rating. Movies and television work fine that way, so why should video games be any different?
That's just the problem. On a purely factual, objective level, the player IS rewarded for killing a woman.
The statement doesn't address that the reward is very minor, there can be drawbacks to murder, men can just as easily be murdered, and a multitude of other issues. It's definitely misleading, but that's what politics is all about: giving your own slant to the facts.
I don't see how it could be considered libel, though. He's not saying that "people who play GTA are scum." Since what he says is technically true, it's not really harming anybody's reputation. GTA doesn't pretend to be a kiddie game, and it shouldn't.
Why does Super Metroid need a remake? Even today, its original graphics still look good, and the gameplay is good as ever. It might be nice to see it rereleased on the GC or GBA, but I don't think there's a need for a remake.
The original Metroid, on the other hand, is already getting a remake for the GBA called Metroid: Zero Mission. With Metroid Fusion, Metroid Prime, and the upcoming Metroid Prime 2, there's no lack of Metroid love around.
"The wars of the future will not be fought on the battlefield or at sea. They will be fought in space, or possibly on top of a very tall mountain. In either case, most of the actual fighting will be done by small robots. And as you go forth today remember always your duty is clear: To build and maintain those robots. Thank you."

Of course, they're not Blizzard made/sanctioned, but nothing's perfect.

Wow. That was one of the most insightful things I've ever read.
