To me, it was key that the device does real multitasking (ie it works when the device is offline and no special programming is required). Not too many phone platforms qualify with that these days.
Tax? i thought it was a licence fee, and you get iplayer access in UK irrespective of if you pay or not, and don't outsside the UK irrespective of if you pay or not.
I stopped reading at that point, since we're not talking on all levels - at least *I'm* not...just the "box it comes in", and Nokia have just as nice packaging (IMO). I'm not saying it makes no difference, just that, to quote myself, "[it] doesn't have much difference to the success of the company as you think"
Hrm. Is there a name for your argument? Straw man, is it? Pretend I'm making some other argument and argue against that instead? I've always found the science of false arguments to be quite interesting:)
Well, I might have thought there'd be one or two....I mean, someone obviously thinks it's a good idea, else it wouldn't exist.
But, no, not really a surprise.
I'm not entirely sure what the 'obvious reasons' are. If you're suggesting all English speakers are incapable of thinking objectively, then, well...hrpmh to you.
Wow. I've read all the comments (that have been selected) and not one thinks this is a good idea. Amazing to see everyone agree for a change.
"6% native English speakers" - is that relevent to anything? How many people can *read* (or write) English, as a 1st, 2nd, or nth language? - I'd guess somewhere over 75%, even higher if you consider the simple keywords used in javascript (not that knowing their meaning in real English will help enormously, as has been pointed out). Are there any complicated keywords? I suppose 'function' might not be so often used...then there's CSS (I assume they mean that and HTML too)..."border", "margin", "padding" - they're reasonably common for me, but that doesn't help me in the slightest.
Nope - knowing English isn't much help at all, imo. At best, it gets you over the first hurdle...but there's a whole 800m-worth of hurdles to go with the rest of Javascript/CSS/HTML. Really, it's horrible - and they call Symbian C++ hard! (I didn't think Symbian C++ was so hard - pretty much the same as Android, imo).
I've tested so many headphones/etc and have come to prefer the Senn HD25 on-ear. i also don't care too much that they're on-ear, but the sound quality is amazing.
However, if there is one thing that I've found, it is that everyone has their own hearing 'profile' and which is 'best' is very, very subjective. If you don't want to waste a lot on money trying different ones out (like I did, actually), go to some store that has a wide range and try them out with your own music. IMO, there really isn't any other way.
..but I have worked there for several years, then moved to Finland and trying to get back again.
It shouldn't be too difficult to get something once you're there, but they will expect to pay you the same as a local, and you'll have to sort out some deal for health insurance.
Another option is to try a company such as Canonical or Redhat, where they let you work from home. There are some agencies there too, who recognise the value in a foreigner.
You might find something on the web site for the Beijing Linux Users' Group, and I suppose other similar.
Microsoft, Google, Nokia, and Intel all have sizable offices there...but I still think most companies won't look at you until you're there.
> Why fixate on Apple products?
I wasn't. I was replying to someone who, perhaps, was.
yeah, I'd agree with those definitions...
Right!
Style != fashion
fashion is just what other people thing is good
alledgedly
Please, no. If I wanted a MacBook Air, I would get a MacBook Air; but I hate that style and love the more macho Thinkpad style.
I'm so glad it doesn't have a shiny screen too.
me too, though I just pulled the rubber off and that solved the problem

'It' might not have GPS, but other Series40 phones do/did :

> Yes, but both "system" and non-system apps run in the same virtual machine
Not always.

I keeeel you!
It's thoughtless of Apple not to provide boxes for their boxes.

My point being...perhaps the packaging doesn't have much difference to the success of the company as you think...

I would prefer he focus on patent reform.
I wonder why Samsung don't just say, "We didn't copy Apple's designs, but we did copy the same designs Apple copied."
if you're gong to redirect the light...might as well do into a camera and have a direct-at-the-user webcam type thing
80s??? Am I *that* out of fashion?

IINM, the term is usually 'old geezers', implying they can be young too..
