> I recently had the displeasure of attempting to install Red Hat Enterprise Server 4 on an HP ML115.
I installed SME server on a similar computer (one of the older Compaq ones) and had no issues at all. It's a little known distro, but based on my experiences, I would recommend it :
> I wonder how many of you want pre-installed operating systems - any operating system.
I would. It tells me that the OS works on that h/w (ie there are drivers).
These days, I buy h/w in the hope that it will all work. I try a live cd if I can, but sometimes that isn't possible and I resort to searching for comment/reports online.
Really though, why do you wipe the hard disk? Can't you just install over the top of it? Ignoring the previous contents of the hard drive is usually just a click in the installation process.
Are you worrying that it'll increase the cost of the computer for them to preinstall an OS (even if the OS itself is free)? I guess that's an valid argument...
> How is it possible to provide for both consumers who demand Windows...
Well, if there are only two consumers who demand Windows, what are we worrying about?
Yes, I know he really meant 'to provide both for...and...', not 'to provide for both...and...', but the idea of there only being two is appealing (to me).
I was thinking the same thing, yet here I am using free Slashdot (I am fairly sure I've seen notices that I can pay for it if I want - does that get rid of the ads?).
However, I have nothing against an ad supported network, so long as I can still choose to pay (instead of ads) if I want to.
How about trying to increase the supply - like choosing a venue that is big enough (or has 'infinite' capacity, like a park or something), or having more events?
1) it's only just loud enough that you can't quite make it out but it's 'oh so familiar' that it keeps you guessing the song all day. I hate that!
2) it's loud enough that you *can* make it out, but it's something crap, but catchy, and you embarrass yourself by singing it all day at inappropriate times. I *really* hate that!
Closed back headphones should be mandatory on public transport. These are my favourites :
Eh? If that were true, then this article would not exist since the guy wouldn't have the job to start with....hrm...perhaps he *was* bought off, but changed his mind since getting the job? Unlikely, I think.
If you're going to insult someone, just do it. Don't bother trying to be polite.
In any case, I'm pretty sure I don't give a shit, actually. The guy is obviously wrong and won't admit it - or explain why I'm wrong and it does, in fact, rhyme. I *was* actually hoping for an mp3 file - oh well.
Is that you admitting that you were wrong, and it doesn't actually rhyme after all? I was kind of looking forward to a link with an mp3 file of some strange accent. Oh well.

Oh, no, I'm wrong.
It's secret option number 'c'. (that's a quote from somewhere - forget where)
He really meant :
> How is it possible to *both* (provide for consumers who demand Windows) and also (ensure a fair and open marketplace for competing platforms)?
Although, since he used 'also', the word 'both' is somewhat redundant - or vice versa.
> How is it possible to provide for both consumers who demand Windows ...
...', but the idea of there only being two is appealing (to me).

It wasn't /. that was making the comment, so it depends completely on where the person making the comment lives, which wasn't mentioned.
On the other hand, since the comment was 'another country', we can assume the posted isn't in Scotland, which is the only relevant point.
So, I apologise and withdraw my post (though it might have been nice to know where 'here' is).

Ha. OK. Fair enough. However, it's the first time I've heard of one that starts at 9?
> that there is more demand than supply

> If we hold prices low, then some people won't be able to go REGARDLESS of their ability to afford it.
Well, they could sell all the tickets people are willing to buy, then expand capacity to accommodate them (ie more or bigger venues).
> annoy the hell out of fellow passengers...
..but for sound isolation, I haven't found better than these :
Yeah, because either :
1) it's only just loud enough that you can't quite make it out but it's 'oh so familiar' that it keeps you guessing the song all day. I hate that!
2) it's loud enough that you *can* make it out, but it's something crap, but catchy, and you embarrass yourself by singing it all day at inappropriate times. I *really* hate that!

and these aren't half bad either :

I find them very comfortable too.
> I was told that I could listen to the radio at a reasonable volume from nine to eleven
Most volume controls only go to 10.
The SGI IRIX audio control panel used to go to 11 but I don't think it was the original - that was some cult thing or other.
> Ok, the rest of you guys. How long can I keep
the joke running?
Until it stops being funny?
Oops, too late.
"another country"?
Is that "another" as in "in addition to", or as in "different"?
If the former, then which country is it also happening in?
If the latter, then it's not a 'different country' if you happen to live in Scotland (or UK, depending on the/your definition of 'country').
...and here's the same guy trying for an horizontal lift off (with [real]video, maybe) :
...or is he trying to get to Australia by a more direct route?

(loads more quickly for me)
Who's Ed? Is he related to Bill we keep hearing about?
So, your point is that it shouldn't do what it is supposed to so that they can learn? ..or was there something else you wanted to point out?
Eh? If that were true, then this article would not exist since the guy wouldn't have the job to start with....hrm...perhaps he *was* bought off, but changed his mind since getting the job? Unlikely, I think.
LOL
Come *on* moderators! That's gotta be a "+5 funny".
> Half of IT Workers Sleep on the Job
...which would might explain why it's *only* kissing.
Perhaps it's just the bottom half?
> Forty-seven percent of tech pros admit they've kissed a co-worker,
... which would explain the sleeping thing.
"Admit"?
An IT guy?
Yeah, right.
In your dreams maybe

> And obviously, 'scared' rhymes with 'land' but maybe in your dialect of english it doesn't.
I'm traveled a fair bit, and I've yet to hear a dialect or accent where those two words rhyme.
Perhaps it's our definition of 'rhyme' that differs.
> but it also rhythms!
What does "rhythms" mean? Did you mean "rhymes"? In which case, with what does it rhyme?
