while I agree with your statement you want the computer to do what you tell it to, i'm tired of ppl ragging on Windows for instability
i have windows xp...i have had it on this box for 2 years, since i ordered it from dell...2 ghz p4, 256m ram, xp home
so much hardware added: extra HD, video capture card, new 5.1 surround sound card, firewire card, etc
i'm trying to show my computer is not some gimpy setup that is unconfigured
i hack my registry all the time for kicks
i run a webserver, mysql, constantly python, perl, php...this computer stays up for a month before i reboot it -by choice- not by necessity
my computer has been severely fuxored with, but yet it runs like the day i bought it...much better than any linux distro i've experienced (gentoo, redhat, debian) in user friendliness....altho i do run debian, too
now to make my post on-topic: why do i stay off windows? when i'm off windows, it's to familiarize myself more closely with how operating systems and disk operations work...i'd never learn what partitioning really was w/o linux, what the MBR was w/o linux, etc.
so to sum up: windows is not as unstable as ppl say, and linux teaches you so much (which is why i use it some now)
suppose i have gmail...me sending emails should be fine, i said it was ok in the contract i agreed to...however,
when Mr. A sends -me- an email...his email gets read...Mr. A never agreed to the contract...so it's an invasion of -his- privacy...THAT"s the problem as stated by this proposed law...read it sometime ^_~
also, i think it's important to note that if another company other than google was doing this kinda scanning, all us slashdotters would be shitting bricks about the privacy-invasion...read: microsoft's hotmail, etc.
They ignored the UN, and no-one's even looked into impeaching Bush for a fraudulent election
please tell me under what us law is he impeachable? he did everything legally and i challenge you to teach me otherwise...
however, i'm not going to deny i've been somewhat...displeased...by his term in office, i'm not going to say we should impeach him, because he's violated no law for us to impeach him under...
one other thing you said was about the US not entering WWII so that shows that we are not so much champions of democracy...
the US didn't enter WWII because we had declared neutrality...our founding fathers did in fact say to 'stay out of entangling alliances' and pres. roosevelt was trying to adhere to that, until pressure from european descendents in the US, and then german attacks on our ships, then finally pearl harbor, pretty much -forced- us to go to war...otherwise, i daresay we would have stayed neutral the entire war
please note i am not going to say "we saved your butts during dubya dubya two" or some jackhole thing like that...i personally think w/o the US, germany would still have lost for the 2-front war with friggin -russia- on one side to deal with...don't invade russia...just...just...don't invade russia
and now for the obligatory stupid comment from me i am an americanz0r
one thing i think is funny, is that Don McLean trademarked the phrase "american pie"
when the movie came out, they had to pay McLean to use the phrase
i think its retaaded that you can trademark something so trivial as "american pie" in such a broad sense that it extends beyond a song and into the movie industry...obviously noone would confuse a -song- and a -motion picture-
for one thing, a dell jukebox is around 200 bucks...the equivalent ipod is like 400...that's $200 i could use on music...200 songs on iTMS man...that's around 15 standard CDs of music...
so yeah, i think that it's worthwhile to get my iTMS to run on my jukebox
while i can verify your "gorira" + "kujira" as being completely true, i cannot verify the king kong/moby dick theory
however, as an interesting side note, Donkey Kong gets its name because the creator thought "donkey" was english for "stubborn" and "kong" was english for "gorilla"
hehe i was worried that i was going to log on and read an article about how IRC is completely evil, and instead i am treated with virii infections and how
In some ways, the biggest problem is Microsoft Windows itself.
let's here it for the NYT!!!
Perhaps, with this digital skin, the industry can make movies in the future (perhaps 10 years for truely believable ones) that doesn't put people in jepardy to STD's, AND it doesn't exploit young girls. But I'm sure there will be some people that object to even digital actors "exploiting themselves".
I think you misunderstood what he said...
he said 2 things:
1) he uses windows
2) windows is stable
note: "not inherently unstable" means "inherently stable" in English ^_~
OK so in the 15 replies i've read so far, i've seen two attacks on someone's grammar...seriously, noone speaks "properly" in real life, unless they are at a) school b) job/interview for job
if they were being interviewed for an article on computers they have, do you -really- expect them to wax eloquent?
PS 'sayin'? since when is that any more acceptable than the good/well error? -i'm- just sayin.
PPS yes i know i had errors in mine...so what? can you still understand my post?
PPPS *breathes* if this sounded like an attack...it wasn't...i'm just tired of reading "heehee you have poor grammar!" posts
i've only watched a couple of episodes, but if you truly believe those people have no talent, then you sir are either a moron or deaf...i say nothing of the judges, but those contestants who make it to the -real- rounds...they're GOOD
i challenge you to sing as well as them, if they have no talent...that is surely the least talent one can have...therefore, you surely must have as much ^_^
that being said, i completely agree with everything else you wrote
well for one it is implied by like 1,000 different laws on the books (including wiretapping) and "unlawful search and seizure" which IS in the bill of rights
how about jurisprudence of the Supreme Court: http://www.thisnation.com/library/griswold .html
or how about the Supreme Court in Mapp v. Ohio, 367 U.S. 643, 656 in which is stated the Fourth Amendment creates "a right to privacy, no less important than any other right carefully and particularly reserved to the people."
now I am not paranoid by any means, but to think that everything about you can be public information without any dangers is utter folly!
for one: SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER
what about credit card numbers, bank statements, taxes, ANYTHING
plus just because you "don't have anything to hide" doesn't affect the right to privacy that we as americans enjoy...even if someone is a criminal, the potential Big Brother risks STILL violate his civil rights...
i don't have anything to hide, but i still don't want to be followed
i believe in my rights as guaranteed by the US Constitution
however, if you CHOOSE to allow yourself to be tracked...well, i have no quarrel with that
while I agree with your statement you want the computer to do what you tell it to, i'm tired of ppl ragging on Windows for instability

so don't get all pissy please
Just because i am an Opera dude, i feel like saying "opera can do it, too!" here
^_^
Better still, hire half a dozen and RAID them.
not to be -too- political, but china's already done that...
thank you, Mr. Owl

phillistines with their waxy untrimmed ears
I am a Philistine, and I am offended...now where did Goliath go?
on the other hand, the outrageous amount of evidence that HIV is the primary cause of AIDS:
Natl Inst of Health

they have this already, and it's called
"hentai"
Good God! 3 slashdotters misspelling "whore" is like a vice-president misspelling tomat-----oooooh... how ironic...
GOD i wish i had mod points for this! althought i would REALLY like to see a good argument against what xswl said...
Good God! according to the output, BASIC SKIPS THE AGE OF 1!!! TIIIIIIIME TRAAVEEEEEEEL!!!
I think you misunderstood what he said... he said 2 things: 1) he uses windows 2) windows is stable note: "not inherently unstable" means "inherently stable" in English ^_~
I think that may be the shortest post to get mod points...
please tell me what ^H^H^H means...i've seen it everywhere! but i can't figure it out...
