Having worked for a company that supported notebook computers I can tell you that the companies have been telling people not to put these things on their laps for years. I mean in some cases these "laptop" computers are so hot hey will actually burn you, not to mention that the new media center notebooks are huge. The standard line for customers that complained about the temperature of these things on their crotch was "Sir, its a notebook computer, not a laptop."
Also guess what, if you didn't know that heating up your balls was a bad thing before this study then by all means continue to do it, and dont reproduce.
XP still has BSOD. MS just hides it with automatic restarts. If you really miss the warm blue glow of the BSOD you can turn off automatic retarts. Right click my Computer > Properties > Advanced Tab > Start and Recovery Settings > uncheck "Automatically Restart".
I am surprised that this took so long to happen. According to their ads I was the 9347598723098570928754th person to visit that site today. Does this means I don't get my prize?
A Tsunami is something that geologists can explain and understand. They can be caused by large geological shifts in the ocean floor. These "Rogue Waves" however are still such a mystery.
Like a previous post mentioned the Tsunami at great depth will not appear as a massive wall of water. It will only grow that large as the depth decreases and the wave length starts to shorten while the amplitude increases. The Rogue waves somehow gain that enormous amplitude at mid ocean depths.
I will guess that these could be caused by cross currents. A current deeper in the water actually acting as the shore normally does because it is moving in the opposite direction of the shallow current. That, or a race of deep sea dwelling creatures that can control the waves and sink 2 tankers/transport ships a week to grab some easy resources. Either one really...

I find it a bit strange that we are talking about the relevancy of a news PAPER on Slashdot where I bet 99% of people get their up to date information from the web. I mean, if I want day old news I will read a newspaper. If I want up to date news I will get on the web or turn on the radio.
How can they say that graphic novels are a dumber version of a standard novel. I mean for take a look at Christopher Pike or any other of those "turn out a book every week" teen mystery novel series. Spooksville - The Haunted Cave, Final Friends - The Dance. Are those novels deeper and more thought out than graphic novels or Manga?
Well take a look here and see the blog of a windows developer. He really does get upset when people say that MS doesn't care about security.
I am sure you are all aware that windows is a fairly large OS that is designed to be easy to use for novices but allow Power Users to do their thing as well. I think it accomplishes that fairly well. They provide automatic updates to every computer now (if you are not too lazy to turn it on). I realize that this option is turned off by default but this is more because of the people (*cough* slashdotters *cough*) that say that MS will somehow steal all their secrets if you let them install updates automatically. I think MS does a good job updating system.
Also, if I see one more reply to an IE article with the line "Download the patch here" rated as "Funny", I will kill myself.
CPU - Computer Power User. They have writters from lots of the major websites. Most have a very good understanding of what the hot topics currently are, and can give educated and interesting opinions. I love the articles this mag has about really hardcore stuff like how to overvolt your RAM and things like that.
2600 -- No its not because I am a l337 haX0r, it has some pretty interesting articles about just messing around with everything electronic. Hacking iPod, Xbox that sort of thing. Great Mag. Covers are always fun to see.
Maxim - the chicks.

If it is a revenue stream they better not be the only ones sueing spammers for income.
That would make them a Monopoly!

Yes and it took a University study to figure that out.

i am gonna bet it will show up more on the search engines. dunno though. better so a study....

I don't know much about Africa.
... I do know that a lot of areas are fairly lawless or corrupt...
of course that didnt stop you from offering a sweeping statement about their culture.
Thats why I love Slashdot.
