The digg button kit would be a good present for the Ron Paul fan in your life. That way they could practice their obsessive digging when they don't have access to a computer.

    • First of all, the taxes aren't just to pay for the music players, they are for a number of measures.
    • Secondly, the story doesn't specifiy it'll be ipods, just a digital audio player. Given the more reasonably-priced audio players around, they'd be idiots to pick Apple's trendy but pricey players.
    • I think digital audio players could be very useful in an educational context, but current copyright law will probably render them useless. You need to be able to put useful content on these devices. This could end up being very expensive.
    • The person who wrote the cnet story is called Erica Ogg.

Waht makes me Zzzzzz is everytime I read a slashdot article, I come across comments trying to predict what the other commenters (by implication, those others are less intelligent than the poster- pointing out stupidity in others in an attempt to make him look smart by association). I prefer to read posts about the subject on slashdot, rather than posts about slashdot, especially when they have the irritating smug tone of "Oh, look at all the losers and their oh so predictable posts. I'm glad I'm far more intelligent than the unwashed masses!" And, yes, I am aware that I don't have to read any posts here, and that I have not only read one of these pointless posts but replied to it.

Actually, Paul McGillion who plays Dr. Beckett in Stargate Atlantis is a Scot. Although he grew up in Canada (he was 2 years old when his family moved there), he lived back over here in his teens. So, when it was decided to make the Atlantis cast more diverse, McGillion chose to make his character Scottish.

"Extreme anti-globalisation people" couldn't pull this off. You need to be a rich capitalist like Osama Bin Laden to have access to the necessary resources. Preferably, you should also (like Bin Laden) have the backing of a Western power, or have had it in the past.

Anarchists also aren't organised enough. Violence by these groups tends to be more along the lines of throwing bricks. Of course, only a tiny proportion of the anti-globalisation movement is violent.
