  1. intel holding back? on Bypassing Intel's Overclock Limit Reveals DDR2-667 · · Score: 1

Could it be that Intel is keeping DDR2-667 support for yet another revision of their new chipsets even though the memory support is clearly here today?

sure why not? intel could be postponing on brining out their biggest guns for later on when it would be better to shoot them off, they might also want to see what the competition will do and bring out before they bring out their best, but on the same note, who knows what else Intel might be holding back? They might have some other amazing thing that they are waiting to spring on the public at an appropriate time...

But it definitely would make sense if NASA underestimated purposefully just so that they could be able to impress, but that is just my opinion

I think it is great that they are using Linux, I personally think that for education and stuff like that Linux is way better, the only time I really need windows is for high performance games that neither WineX / Wine support, but in a school enviroment you dont need those kind of things so Linux is a great solution, stable, cheap, and lots of great free software

ok... I know that everyone likes broadband, and I think that this idea is pretty cool, but in all reality, being practical, you need to consider the fact that you generally won't need broadband on today's cell phones, but... in the future it will be useful, cell phones in the future may have the ability to stream video to a nifty little screen, or audio files, or who knows what, so setting up this technology as a framework for others to build on in the future is not a bad idea, it probably wont hurt anything... and another thing to consider is that as the services that cell phone providers offer increase, which is happening right now: 1. more and more people will use the services and 2. the features themselves will take up more bandwidth. So, for both of these cases, having a system like this will help. just my two cents

although one might see this as good, you have to wonder whether or not the extremely cheap products will be of good quality, not to say that they won't, but if they are significantly cheaper you have to be at least a bit wary... but hey this is great, because everyone will have to drop their prices to compete, meaning that all the buyers win on this... but you have to consider the companies who are currently selling their burners for high prices... what happens if they have to cut their prices in half to stay competitive? they could go under, which would be a bad thing..

  9. secure ims... sure on China Will Monitor, Censor SMS Messages · · Score: 3, Interesting

yeah there are im clients that can be used for semi-secure conversations, like trillian and gaim, but the fact is that if someone with resources (like china) wants to break the code, then the code will get broken, its just that simple unfortunately, although it may take a while to do, with todays most modern and highpowered computers, you could easily crack a message perhaps even within a day. But the fact of the matter is that noone really cares, we have secure email, but almost noone actually bothers to encrypt their email do they? People allow emails with sensitive information to fly across the net, unencrpyted, and this happens all the time, my estimate is that at least 3/4 of all computer users dont know what encryption is past a rudimentary concept, and 9/10 of the remainder don't bother to actually use encryption although they know about it... just my two cents

  15. many good reasons on What Keeps You Off of Windows? · · Score: 1

Once you make the switch you never really want to go back. Linux and free OSs in general have so much more to offer. And it is all free. For example, I can go and talk to one of the developers for something in an IRC channel, and ask them for some help, and chances are they will help me (or say RTFM, which is commonly used as well). And you can get all sorts of things that are interesting, for example, if you get Debian then you can simply update all of your programs in a matter of minutes (depending on DL speed). And all of this is free, as opposed to paying hundreds of dollars for an OS that isn't even STABLE. Linux has so many good things about it that it is hard to list them all in one comment. But to anyone who might be considering getting started using Linux, just to try something other than Windows. I would recommend installing a LiveCD such as Knoppix or Gnoppix. You don't even have to install it, you can just boot off of it and have fully functioning Linux. Give it a shot.

So I think this challenge will be possible, although not easy to do for one mile. But even if noone actually does claim the prize and finish... it is the fact that you learn something from the experience and hopefully that experience can be put to good use that's important... isn't it?

I have a 4X DVDRW and although it isn't anywhere near as fast, I don't need godly system specs to use it. And neither do I need to drop anything else I'm doing.
