I bought a Vx about 3 months ago. I spent an extra $50 on a leather slip case. Then, after a static charge, the Vx destroyed my serial port, so I spent $50 on the serial-usb adapter, which still runs at serial speed.
The Visor Edge has USB syncing (yes, it is worth it- those avantgo web pages take too long to sync) and a nice flip cover (the leather case for my Vx doubles the thickness). My Palm Vx runs natively at 24mhz and I have it overclocked to 33mhz. There is an absolutely noticeable difference in responsiveness.
The Edge also has a little light that can be used to alert you. This is important after your Vx goes off in the middle of class and the prof chastises you!
The Visor Edge is a clear winner.
So.... anyone want to buy a Vx? I have one here for sale, excellent condition...
If each group develops its own protocol, which will of course be open source, than maybe we can just choose the better of them, or combine the best of each.
This card is an oldie but goodie. Perhaps you could simply get this as a pci card and supplement your primary agp card/display (if you need 3d power for games, or have some badass big monitor). The tv support is excellent in linux through gatos. The card is also has excellent 2d. I use it in my dorm room as my only tv and only display adapter (I do not play games).
My favorite part of Outlook is Outlook Today. Synced with my Palm, it gives me a nice heads up of email, tasks, and the events for the next few days. I am very hooked on this. Are any of these new clients going to have a "Today" feature?
I use a Toshiba SD-1200 connected with S-Video to my ATI All-in-Wonder PRO in Windows 98, and experience the same problem. I have not even bothered looking into it, but yes, I had the problem. I don't think I tried changing refresh rates - I was probably using 1152x864.
There was some article posted to slashdot a while back. It detailed how as humans use computers more and more, we will want a more exacting interface.
The article proposed that humans would spend the same amount of time mastering a computer language as they would mastering the english language: perhaps the first 20 or so years of ones life.
I see the computer interface eventually coming back to a traditional unix-style CLI, even further along to some sort of machine code. People would learn to interface with the computer just as intricately as we interface with each other.
One of my best friends is a typical "geek" who grew up with computers from a very young age. All through middle school he was very shy and had no friends. Then, in high school, he started making friends and being more socialable. He is still extreamly smart and in love with computers, but he also likes to go on dates and hang out.
My point is, your young geek will grow up and mature in many areas, maybe not all at once, so let him live his life how he sees fit. He will mature in time.
Don't let this solution pass you up. It's very easy to disconnect an ide power and data cable from a cheap, small, durable ata100 hard disk, and hook it up to any computer you want. Ultimate comptability, price/performance, and very easy to use. Don't be afraid to take off that case!
I'm an on-off linux experimenter. I dual boot with windows. Sometimes I find myself using linux for months, then getting back to windows for a while, for some specialized apps.
My current setup is like this;
/boot ~15megs
/win ~12gigs
/ ~12gigs
swap ~200megs
pretty simple basic dual-boot that takes care of lilo problems. I back up important data to cdr on occasion.
What is the purpose of having/,/var,/opt, etc. as separate partitions? Is there a performance improvement due to arranging them on the disk platter in a certain way?
I purchasted an ATI All-In-Wonder PRO with 8 megs of ram a while back, state of the art for its day, with tv in and out and all that. Now when I upgraded to Windows 2000, no longer can I use the video/tv capabilites of my card. Sure, the display on my monitor is fine, but I actually wanted to take advantaged of the cards "tv" abilities for which I bought it.
But wait, there are still not even BETA drivers out for win2k!!!
I will NEVER buy ATI again!!! Be careful of their driver support!!!
Anyone have any info of a possible G550TV card with FULL win2k support?
I know this is sort of off topic.
"but he never calls anymore. :-("
So when do I get one of these sweet boards with built in hardware IDE RAID?
Anyone else interested?
I don't have $$$ for scsi.
umm... a planned obsolecense of sorts?
V8 Splash is actually pretty good.
eXtream programming is eXtream because it provides the eXtream eXPerience...

Group 3: those who don't listen at all.
My friend at school regularly has mp3's playing on his computer. The computer is regularly overloaded with tasks and regularly skips.
He regularly _doesn't notice!_
Some people are just different.

Oh yeah, and IE too!

Good luck in your search.
Sounds like a world just like the web, where each page has its own interface. Sure, you click on links... but that is about all that remains constant.

Aren't you all addicted to your Outlook Today?

Anyway, hope this helps.
... as soon as OS X comes out, mac users will want a familiar, comfortable, and non-instrusive interface to work with.

Digimarc check it out
There is so much $$ being pumped into IDE right now that it will surely surpass scsi in the near future.
See how it works? Simple.
We have Linux turning into AOL and MacOS turning into Linux. Go figure.

Linux gurus, explain!
The gov't also working for you means the gov't protecting your rights both to privacy and to prosecute others who commit crimes against you.
It's a very delicate balance...
that's about all I can say.
Then we have government that is spending more to moderate itself than others, then spending more to moderate the meta-moderators....
So I'm spending money to be watched?? I don't think so. The gov't needs to get its nose out of our asses!!
Doesn't it?
