I said apple was afraid of an open platform such as android, not open source itself.
I then said Apple will use openness as it suits them... you agreed.
Where is the disagreement? NeXT? Its OSX now... and I still cant officially buy and run it on an intel PC, and Mac Compatibles are illegal to sell... which is odd seeing that Apple took the openness that is the PC platform, and secured it for their own benefit, rather than allow all PC users to buy their OS and run it on their own pc hardware.
Its their right as people point out... but... hardly open.
Apple wants you to do it the Apple way... and whatever that is... is at Steve Job's whim.
His choice of words "fragmented" and "Integrated" are cleverly chosen word associations that he hopes sway you.
Funny that he took the complete opposite stance on Flash. He claimed it was "Closed" and dead... and would not be allowed on the iPhone... which here he admits is closed itself... or in his clever wording "Integrated".
Jobs... You're a businessman.... but your not honest.
The entire country finally just got settled with HDTV. FINALLY the majority of people own them, and now the manufacturers expect everyone buy a new 3D TV and toss out their 4 year old HDTV sets?

That they strictly control in every way possible, by selling in their own stores, itunes, ipods, iphones, an os that runs on standard intel mb's and cpus... that anyone can buy.
How about Apple filing suit against Psystar for creating Mac compatibles? Apple might as well sue Dell and Intel for making Mac Compatibles. Apple won that lawsuit. Apple has a monopoly over an OS that is designed to run on standard PC hardware.
There is no reason why another company cant make Apple Compatibles technologically.... but Legally... Apple has won their legal right to be a monopoly.

Apple computers are the exact same hardware as any other intel PC.
And yeah I dont like it. I dont like the double standard that Apple gets away with while for years everyone has blasted Microsoft for doing the same exact thing, except they didnt have a monopoly over the hardware their software ran on.
No one cares Balmer. Get a new idea. Stop copying Apple. Apple is a dick company... Why cant Microsoft initiate, rather than follow Apple. By the time Microsoft copies Apple's inventions, Apple has already dominated the market and Microsoft's pathetic copy is dead before it ever comes out.
Microsoft is run by a fat fucking idiot. Lets face it.
Just like any drug addict or someone battling a personal demon... you rarely if ever shake it... and you're only really ready to, once you've hit bottom.
"He never mentions that it is possible to, you know, live without the apps"
Right, and nor did he mention the word fundemental. Which you keep injecting into this.
He also did not mention food, sky, water, videogames, ponies, or whales.. but i'm sure they all apply somehow... So how would you like to inject your believes into those scenarios that also do not appear in his statement?
Do you think his statement applied only to apps, or as a general human response known as survival... and thats survival as one sees fit... not how others see fit. Which is what you're imposing by injecting the idea that one must think apps are fundemental to life. They are not, and they are.... it depends on who you are, what you do, and the situation doesnt it
But the point is.. the statement made... made no declaration of what you say it did.
You spun his statement and injected the idea that he said apps are necessary. He did not say that. You did.
But there are certainly apps necessary... as in todays world, you better know a few of them if you want a job that isnt already taken by an illegal mexican.
He did not say they were fundamental to living our lives. You injected the word fundamental. He said people will live their lives by any means necessary... which means they will live their lives as they see fit with or without the ability to afford it due to the lack of jobs and general lack of concern of the middle class from the wealthy's point of view.

+1 for spell checking... but -1 for being that guy... ;)
so, your point is Steve Jobs is a very controlling egotistical man that runs his company and controls his users like a dictator.
Nothing new...
Yes.. I'm fully aware of Apple's selective support of open software solutions.
Apple supports it when it benefits Apple.
He's scared of Android.
He's scared of open platforms.

They predicted the end of the world, but not cell phones, breast implants or space shuttles?
Not listed in order of importance obviously...

Apple gets away with monopoly.

But will Apple allow me to install OSX on Dell PCs?
Even better, can I sell PC's with OSX on them and call them Apple compatibles?
Apple is evil
You should see the homes of some of these guys...

HAHAHAHAHAHA Nothing like a good hat joke.
Actually this lens thing seems like it would only work for one person, and not multiple viewers.
So wearing two hats would probably cause your 3D tv to explode from confusion
No ads, a slightly longer character limit...
Boom you win.

So true. Its about money.
Obama is just another dooooooooooooooche.
The republicans are a bunch of taliban zealots...
The country is fucking dead jim.
I've given up on government. Our government was supposed to be about change FOR the people... not change against the people.
Now Obama is telling his base to shut up and suck it.
Its clear the democrats are against net neutrality...
Just another corporate fat pig in black face.
People still use facebook?

Now thats a huge assumption isnt it?
Do you think most people can easily afford a $200 phone that is $120 a month?
I tend to think most people who own an Android phone, are overextending their budget, just to afford a phone that has overpriced service fees.
No telecommunication service should cost $120 a month to any end user.
I dont think that is true. I never pirated apps for my iPhone. But many certainly do... not not nearly as many who actually PAY for their iphone apps.
