It is a sad world to live in where you can get sued for giving away stuff for free.
Whats next? Microsoft suing [insert favorite Linux distro here] because their free operating system is unfair competition to MS? Pharmaceutical companies suing a charity that gives away free vaccines to babies because then the people won't buy as many of the competing brand vaccines?
...oh wait! Shit like that already happens everywhere everyday.
This really needs to be done. I currently only use mandrake or debian based distros because of their package/dependencies managers. This brings us one step closer to the double click install that computer users need to switch.
I understand that you are being thoughtfull because you believe that your friends will be better off by running linux instead of windows.
Still, what if you received a bible, coran, scientology book or a Chick Track from a friend that is concerned for your soul. Perhaps even got an AOL CD from a friend that wants you to switch to a "better" service.
Send them something that they like, not something that you think might be good for them. Do not be an evangelist in christmass time. You might have less christmas cards to send next year.
... it is just a TV show. It is an idealized version of reality. It is not meant to be a literal translation of forensic science. Not all forensic scientists are great looking, not all cases are solved... much less in a couple of days.
If you judge these kind of shows with extreme severity you can also rule out ER, Law and Order and almost anything else. CSI IS NOT A DOCUMENTARY!
These facts don't take away from the fact that it is a great show, with great writers and great actors. They manage to make it fresh everytime and the caracters are very well developed and motivate great empatic responses in the audience.
McGuyver wasn't science fact or reality based either, but we ate it up every week.
5. Use and abuse CSS. The separation of design elements from everything else will help immensely. You will be amazed by this site: http://www.csszengarden.com/ Change the themes and be amazed by the power of CSS!!!
6. Buy graphic design books, preferably those with collections of commercial art made by different designers. Get inspired;-)
7. Get a digital camera and take lots and lots of pictures of the world around you. Current examples of designs and logos and ads will help.
Ok, repeat after me. It is a mass media oriented movie adaptation of a non visual original that appealed only to a niche market.
Changes will have to be made in order to make it marketable and profitable. Kids will want to see it, and they will not understand the humour, so they will need cutesy characters. Many non intelectual types will expect more explosions and COOL effects than required so they will be there. The ships will be of a more recognizable shape so that the average moviegoer doen't say "A sneaker! This is lame". And so on...
If I don't get another Battlefield Earth I will be more than happy with the movie. And only if it makes a profit we will get a sequel.
I agree completely. Lets just say that I was just making a futile attempt at being funny ;-)
Cheers,
Adolfo
C'mon, the apple icons on this page alone make me want to switch!!

The funny thing is that I do that all the time!!! After about a year I realize that I don't need it and delete it.

But I would be more than a little concerned if I received some "environment friendly soap".
Cheers,
Adolfo
A million thanks for the info :-)
My niece LOVES to play Frozen Bubble on my mandrake box. Now I can give it to her to play on her win32 machine.

They also thought about making a game based on Clinton. Later they realized that it would probably suck. Or is it blow? ;-)

Actually, when I got curious about advanced image creation I downloaded warez versions of exactly the same software that he mentioned above.
When I started making money of it I decided to buy Photoshop because it was the only one that I really needed.
You should never buy before you try!

Thanks for the Getty Images link. I just found a picture that I've been looking for, for about a week! (The site doesn't allow Opera :-( )
/. hinders productivity?
I will also try the "tracing proportions from pictures" technique.
Who can say now that reading

Oh, I agree on the issue of the effects. I was refering to the clean design of the iPods, iMacs, mice, etc. I should have been more specific.

1. Stock photos. A good picture is worth a 1000 design elements. Start scavenging for stock photos NOW. A good place to start is here: http://sxc.hu/.
-
2. Avoid excessive effects and filters when not needed. Nothing ruins a good design like trying to emboss everything or making it 3D.
-
3. Keep it clean and simple. Think Apple.
-
4. Learn from the experts. Visit places like http://www.deviantart.com/ You can even post designs and get peer reviews. Also, http://http//www.alistapart.com will help.

Eh...
LOL, you win.
But this is a Disney Movie with hollywood actors. Very expensive to make, so it has to be very mainstream to produce Nemo type profits.
Nevertheless, you make a very good point
Bowling ball shaped starships in the movies:
Tie Fighter, the one from 2001, the Death Star, The trade federation ones from Episode I...

At least Martin Freeman seems to be exited.
Martin Freeman's blog of the movie can be found here. It also includes the stupid game of babelfish!

I only visited Jeeves for the easter eggs. Sadly, it seems that most of them are now gone.
