Won't that just force everyone to satelite radio? I'm sure that's the plan. Since we need upgrades forced on us like HD-TV etc. I'm all for HD-TV, one it doesn't cost me so much to get a good set.

I for one am tired of paying what are essentially taxes. My cable bill goes up nearly every month, Video games are trying to go to a subscription model, MS would prefer a monthly fee for windows, Music subscription services where one you stop paying it's goodbye music, everything is leased now...I want to own things, not rent them.

How about a MMO GI Joe game. Then I can send a trainee home in an itty bitty ditty bag. Maybe each server only has the exact number of characters open, so when you join a server you get assigned one of the title characters until you die. Join a different server and get someone different. Eventually you get to play destro or snakeyes or the ultimate - Road Block the rhyming chef.

If a band of pirates got together and filed this patent, couldn't they then sue the RIAA or BSA or MPAA for patent infringement when someone uses this technique to go after pirates?

Apple can't go into the music business since the settlement with Apple Corps. (The old Beatles label)

Not surprising, considering the morons I went to school with and the fact that we had one class about that sort of thing. We really ought to be failing more students don't you think?

I'm not buying it yet, I was just asking if that might be an issue, as I like to revisit games some years later, especially if they are as amazing as this one is supposed to be. It's called evaluating your purchase. However I think it's my right to demand a product that won't mysteriously stop working if they go out of business sometime. Is it Likely? Remember Black Isle? Yeah.

  8. The $100 Question on Valve Cracks Down on 20,000 Users · · Score: 5, Insightful

What happens if I buy the game on ebay that somebody already played. Will steam not allow me since it's already registered to the previous user? More importantly what happens when VU shuts down valve and steam B/C profit margins aren't high enough or some other BS reason, and there are no servers to validate my copy? I don't want to buy a game that might not work in a few years.

  9. Re:Applying for patents on European Council Approves Software Patents · · Score: 1

That did used to be the case, but now you can patent ideas for things that have not been physically created, so how does the patent office know whether you are bogusly claiming a philosopher's stone type idea? I.E. you claim it works in your patent and wait for someone to actually make the darned thing work and then you sue them. Nor does the patent ofice rigourously check whether something was pre-existing. I think Amazon's one click patent and the Windows patents are pretty much proof of the failings of the system.

  10. MS causing backlog on Microsoft Patents Timed Button Presses · · Score: 1

Maybe by backlogging the whole office, MS can keep from getting sued for patent infringement (Eolas anyone?) etc for things that they want to assimilate into their product. If it takes five years to patent, the world will have moved on to something new and there will be tons of prior art.

  11. CD problem in 10.0 on Mandrakelinux 10 Official Released · · Score: 1

I can't get the thing to install since the CD insists that the CD isn't in the drive right after it booted from it(The erratta notes say try booting from CD2, no joy yet). So I can't even tell if 10.0 is any good or not since it refuses to install. 9.1 was fine for the install, if a little flaky in operation itself.

UPDATE: Apparently Gamespot carries some old patches if anybody cares. Unfortunately you have to sign up for marketing etc, and install their DLX p2p distribution system to get it, which incidentally looks to include some spyware, or at least unsolicited programs piggybacking on it. Is there no community archive for our gaming legacy, years from now will the classics completely fade away?

  14. Out of Business Problems on Black Isle Studios Shuts Down Development · · Score: 1

With studios releasing games to disk full of bugs, patching all of their problems later and then going out of business, where is someone supposed to get patches for classic games? I recently re-purchased several old games on ebay and I know that patches exist, but haven't found any of them yet.
