    There are many mathematical uses for video cards, they are very useful for quickly performing lots of linear algebra operations (basically what video processing is).

    While the chips that you quoted are WAY too small (420 CLB's) to hold any kind of modern graphics architecture, some of the more expensive chips should be able to hold a decent graphics core. The only problem i can see with these open core graphics cards is the clock speed of FPGA chips. It is incredibly hard to optomize a designed targetted to an fpga, especially a larger design, to the point where it will run at a clock speed that is comparable to a modern video card. That being said I hope that this project works out because I would enjoy seeing more succesful research in my field of study.

    There is nothing that makes me angrier than seeing sexual assualts being tried as a civil matter. If someone is raped or otherwise sexually assaulted then this is a CRIMINAL matter. Sueing for money in these cases basically says that the "crime" was not bad enough to warrant any real punishment.

    32 bit processors cant address more than 2^32 bits of memory, or 4 GB. This means you can only have up to 4 GB of memory per CPU in a system. You can have more than 4 GB if you have more than one CPU, or you use a 64 bit CPU that uses larger than 32 bit addressing. Also, you cant even use above 4GB for a ram disk because of the same problems.

    Why doesnt mouse performance matter if the person is old? All of the twenty something gamers now will probably be gaming well into the 60 or 70's, and just because a person is doesnt mean that they dont deserve an accurate mousing experience.

    A) Enterprise doesnt count as a charity, since it was on the air to make money, and was removed because it wasnt. Period. B) I dont have $3M to donate to anything, i do however donate used clothes to the salvation army, donate money to various community orgs (even when i dont really have the money) and ive participated in a ton of other forms of community fund raising. People with that much money have a responsibility to the public to not donate it to a stupid cause like saving a tv show that will no doubt be replaced by another series in the not so distant future. 3 million dollars could have put 30 homeless families into decent houses, or probably helped habitat for humanity build many more than that. Or bought food for a few hundred families for a year. If you cant see that you dont deserve to call yourself a human being.

    So you assumed that by not elaborating my comment to the point where it contained a ton of unnecessary scientific information, ie what you said about the earths rotation constantly being slowed by the gravitation forces from the moon, that it somehow warranted an obvious attempt to discredit it?
    The earths rotation WILL return to normal (by NORMAL i mean its approximate rate of rotation just before the earthquake occured) in around 100 days. i didnt feel the need to go into explaining the forces at work that cause this to happen.

    The earths rotation has been temporarily increased. It will slow down to normal over the period of about 100 days.

    Each logic element in an FPGA is ALWAYS a binary operation. a LE (or LUT) is basically a truth table which can be sinple as replaying a 1 or 0 to doing much more complex operations.

    I would not be opposed to buying a 20$ digital camera to take with me on say a pub crawl, or to a paintball game or other sort of hazardous-to-technology event, rather than take a 100-500$ digital camera. If a 20$ camera gets broken its not a big deal all you are out is a few pictures and a couple bucks.

    For 20 bucks US the batteries and a set of prints are probably included. I mean i can pick up a film camera for 5 bucks CAD that includes a set of single prints. The poster says it includes a photo cd but i wouldnt be suprised it it included a set of prints as well. Also I have yet to find a disposable/recyclable camera that DOESNT come with batteries

    Im sure that the internet is far more redundant than any private network that these banks use now. Im sure these banks dont have as many routes from node to node as the internet does, its not feasible in a private company. But say if one node in the banking system via the internet goes down, traffic can be routed around it.

    They were bad estimages, they were safe estimates. They designed the rovers to be tough enough that they would work for 3 months even under the worst situations (Like a bad landing, or bad dust storms and the like) So when none of these potentially bad things happen, the life expectancy of the rovers increases. Its like cancelling a cable substription and having them not disable your account for a month afterwards. You planned on having it terminated at the end of the month, but as a bonus you got free cable for a month.

    Yes, the larger television stations have lots of money to play with, one problem arises with smaller local stations that dont have the operating budget. Another problem arises when you think about actually STORING all this video for 2 - 3 months. A 3 month store of 8 hour VHS tapes is 270 odd tapes... thats quite a bit of storage as well. Then when you are done with them what do you do? Destroy them? Landfill? What a waste.
