Thanks for the suggestion. Now that I have a full time job I don't have that much time for reading. I have a back log. Currently in the queue; Red Mars then Niel Stevensons new one. That's probably got me covered for the next month. I used to finish a novel every other day. Oh well, back to work.
The cops in the town I grew up in were very aggressive and intrusive. They were part of a large metropolitan police force. In the two years I could drive in high school I was pulled over over twenty times. I never got a ticket because I wasn't doing anything illegal, they were just seeing what the teenagers were up to. My favorite was when I got pulled over and the cop told me to tilt my head back and used his flashlight to look up my nose. He told me "you're high on pot or speed or something". What kind of fool thinks a tweaker and a stoner might look the same while high? My friend was following me in his car and pulled over to wait. The cop pulled him out of his car and searched him. He searched me, my car and my friends car. He let us go because we didn't have anything, weren't high or drunk and were in fact doing nothing illegal.
I didn't even think this was that unusual until I went to college and found out how nice it is to live in a small community were the cops are held accountable for their behavior. If that incident happened to me today I would probably pursue a court case.
The problem as I see it is that police have to have the power to detain people but they need to be personally responsible for their actions. In large organizations this becomes difficult. Police departments should be smaller and local oversight required.
More on topic; I am appalled by this decision. I would be calling for impeachment for Scalia if it wasn't for the moran who would appoint his successor.
Thank you for that rebuke. People claiming to own the truth really bug me (especially when they are as dead wrong as that twit). Welcome to my friends list.
It's a bad idea, students will either hack it or switch to cellular modems. Just let the tight-assed professors deal with it and tell them to join us in the twenty-first century.
What you are doing shows a lack of respect to the students. If a student wants to waste their opportunity to be educated let em. The good students will voluntaraly go by the rules.
Belive me if you try to implement this system you are in for a world of hurt.
Being a horible speler I love that with osx it spell checks your online form enteries. I used to rite them up in a word procesor frist so I could sple check. Now I just hit [apple][shift}[;] It works great!
Tell your friend to switch to speakeasy. They have a policy to not block any ports. They are very hacker friendly. I started using them three months ago and am happy with their service. Tech support picks up on the third ring and they just resolved a billing problem for me rather painlessly. They have had more scheduled downtime than I would prefer but otherwise they are pretty fast and reliable. I am lovin the ipod I got which is pure gravy since I decided to use them before the offer was made.
p.s. Earthlink is evil and PPPOE is the scourge of satan.
Personally, for a server I love a boring OS. Thats why I use FreeBSD on all my servers at home (Solaris at work, bleh!) For the desktop where I want eye-candy OS X all the way. Once I get in the terminal it is so much like FreeBSD I can really get things done.
I just got an ipod and it is the sweetest gadget I have ever owned and the way and the integration with my ibook is amazing. If you haven't tried it and you like music do what ever it takes to get an apple laptop and and an ipod. I was waiting for the color screen but I decided to get started with a 15gig and give it to my wife when I get a color one. I am having a lot of fun with it and if I had known I would have bought one sooner. I can't wait to get my hands on one of those airport express dealies.
Our only hope is that reasonable people will turn out at the polls. I want to incite those people, motivate them. Bush supporters are in denial, they cannot be convinced, they must be made to feel shame for their support of a lunatic. You cannot have a reasoned argument with the kind of people that still support Bush. You can not make them see what Bush is doing wrong.
There is none so blind as he who will not see.
What made you think that flaming me was a good idea? I am so filled with rage on this subject that if you said that to my face I don't know what I might have done but it would not have been pretty. I am shaking as I write this. I am serious, watch what you say in real life. It's nothing personal it's just a touchy subject.
If it's public property then he does own it, so do you and I. Unless a law is passed allowing these things (and only a ballot enfranchising all current and potential users would satisfy me) putting these things up is the vandalism. I would do the same damn thing. If I could do it without causing more harm I would also shoot every tagged animal with a tranq and remove the tag. Nature was not meant to be wired and labeled. I think this is a horrible idea. Just hand out satellite phones at the rangers station for christ sake. mtc.

Smug it is then!
I've read 'The Cat that Walks Through Walls' and a couple others. Didn't really get into them but I have heard thats not his best work.
Sometimes the slippery slope has a place in dialog. Such as to illustrate a warning. Especially when speaking to a child (or the average US voter).
If I were the POTUS you'd be on the SCOTUS!
Would you mind explaining that. I want to know if I should be indignant of smug.

Cory is a writer trying to reach a wider audience. Don't critisize his work because you aready know about it.
It doesn't always come down to money. Cory making his work available online for free is a shining example of how the system could work in the future.
lighten up would ya.

Ahem... I have *five* friends, thank you very much.
All six of us.

I/O errors will be known as having your tubes tied. Put that in your pipe and smoke it!
check it out.
I took it to be a joke. Social conventions are relaxed in this kind of a forum. I for one enjoy a good flame. That's why I have flamebait modified +6.
:)
Don't worry about it, that was a great story
I wish I could moderate that article
+1 informative
+1 insightful
+1 interesting
Really well done! Thank you.
Right, compassion and love are unreasonable emotions and I am ruled by them. You should give it a try.

You get a clue asswipe, Bush supporters are never going to listen to you.
If you don't think Bush should be removed from office now, you are destroying iraq. ptiypasi
