According to this quick follow up from ArsTechnica Google have denied plans to distribute Ubuntu. According to the article a company spokeswoman said: "[w]e use Ubuntu internally but have no plans to distribute it outside of the company."
Next rumour please!
As long as the UK handle things as well with the current terrorists as they did in Northern Ireland the whole thing should be well and truly over in less than thirty or fourty years. Set the release timer on your Panic Room for 2035.
Newsflash:
SCO has announced it's purchase of Alacritech.
CEO of SCO Darl McBride commented: "This is an important step for us in our "SueTheWholeWorld" (TM) campaign. We have been looking for an opportunity to sue Microsoft ever since they stopped funding our campaign against Linux.".

This is exactly what the mapping companies do to prevent people ripping off their maps. They put fictitious streets into their maps so anyone copying the map can be caught red handed. There's an archive of a Sydney Morning Herald article about a Sydney couple who went looking for two non-existant streets around the corner from them and discovered they never existed.
A few years ago a friend of mine who works at a European government's mapping division was having a very close look at some of Microsoft's maps for just this reason. I notice there are no maps of this country on the MS map website.
Microsoft who have also been borrowing radio station's playlists so it would be no surprise if Microsoft were borrowing supposed "public" information without the owners permission.
I am sorry but this has to be the weakest question of the lot.
I'm no expert but surely Metric vs. Imperial is not the big issue in US Competiveness. China, India and other Asian countries are not outcompeting the US because of Metric adoption surely?
Now there is the question of Metric adoption at NASA and failed Mars missions which might relate this a bit more to the "real" world. Let's spice it up please Metric fans!
When the original CD format came out the Record Industry complained to Sony and Phillips as Compact Disks were such high quality "pirates" would be able to copy them.
(The fact that humans would be able to listen to their product in higher quality was not attractive enough to them).
I guess they were right eventually, but they sold an awful lot of CD's in the meantime.
Why do the entertainment companies keep trying to hold back the tide?
I worked in a theme restaurant in SF many years ago. There were so many people who didn't actually sign their credit cards the restaurant had a policy of asking for ID. Many customers actually were upset about this. Many times I was told by customers that they didn't sign their cards because if they lost them "Someone could just copy the signature". It hadn't dawned on them that "the bad guys" could simply sign the card themselves...
If people are this dumb in the physical world we really have to make things security simple in the electronic world. Something tells me we'll never be able to protect these sorts of people though.
(one foot note; there were some people who didn't sign their cards but wrote "See drivers license" on their cards. They were forgiven.)

$164.00
I am sure that the $61 Billion isn't sitting in his back pocket as that would weigh about 600 tons, but he's not hurting for that money.
Bill spending $20 million to get his name on a building is like someone with $500k of wealth spending $164.
So next time you buy a Games Console for your nephew stick your name on it to show everyone how generous you've been.
(And if it's an XBOX you're helping a very small amount to pay for another University building)

According to Computer World the bill was approved today.
