I agree that 25 years in the future the shell prompt will still look the same (for backwards compatibility), but, recently linux has taken a big step towards mainstream. Most people who buy mac's don't care to see the shell prompt, but it's there!
I've not seen the google link to chillingeffects.org, but I think it is awsome!
Kazaa: we will use the courts to bury you if you don't do what we want. Google (to kazaa): We comply completly Google (to users): Here is a list of sites that you can not have links to. Google (to criminals): These are the sites that you want.
Speaking of mainstream, did anybody else see this California is planning to put hydrogen fuel stations every 20 miles on interstate highways. I've seen several articles on it, but I've not seen any discussion anywhere. I don't know how they are planning in producing the hydrogen, etc.
The hydrogen has to come from somewhere. Yes, in this case the hydrogen does come from fossil fuels, but, it does not have to. The conversion from exclusivly fossil fuels to hydrogen and electricity as a component of moving from point a to point b is a step in the right direction. When a more efficient (better) method of storing hydrogen becomes available the fossil fuels can be removed from the equation. I see this article and the research involved as a stepping stone technology. It's biggest potential advantage for consumers is that it utilizes the existing infrastructure, easing the conversion process. But it's early, lets see what happens!
The current budget deficit of 500B increases the debt by $1724K/person
But at the start of this administration it was about 5.6T so, he (they) should be held accountable for 1.4T in additional debt or 4800/person. An argument could be made that the current administration should have reduced the 5.6T, but thats getting even farther off topic.
All that being said, I still agree that its too much.
So what is your estimate of the percent of the population has a radio? My guess is less that 100%. Newborns often do not get radios at birth. The fact that I have more than one radio does not make up for that.
What strikes me is that 93 percent of all adult internet users are less than 65 (7 percent are 65 or older), the CIA states that 12.4 of all americans (including children) are 65 or over. Concidering that 20.9 percent of all Americans are under age 15 (number of 15-17 year olds would take more research)
So, if 79.1 percent of all americans are 15 or over (229M) and we take 7 percent of that we get 13M (not accurate, but kinda close. Actual number would be less), there are 36M americans 65 or older. I have trouble believing that 13 out of 36 seniors are using the internet (probably closer to 10 out of 36)
If 69 percent of all adult Americans use the internet and 60 percent of those people are university students, doesn't that make 41 percent of all adult Americans university students that use the internet? I have trouble believing that. Have I mis-read something?
Pardon my rusty math, but, 20 years after breaking the $1000 50" barrier would not fit in my back yard!
If my math is right, this would be (50" * 2 ^ ( Years/1.5)) and it would cost ($1000 *.5 ^ ( Years/1.5)).
The 10 cents that it would cost (actually 9.69) is not the problem, its the 516063.7" screen ( 8.1 miles). But in 5 years and 4 months 85 bucks gets you about a 50 footer
Leave him alone he's 10 years old

RTFA-There will be no transporting of raw hydrogen
Microsoft: It's OK for us to give away intenet explorer for free.
SCO: They can't give away linux for free.
No, really, these are not the addresses. The post was a troll.

You are right, I did confuse debt/deficit
The current debt is about 7T

First of all, I agree with you, except your math needs some adjusting.
There are 290M people in the US
$500B/290M = $1724
With Your math,
$500B/$24K = 20M != people in the US.

It will never catch on

CIA World Factbook
fyi, the CIA figures are for 2001/2002. The survey is from Nov/Dec 2003.

Have I mis-read something?
But if they raise stamp prices too much then I might not get the same amount of junk mail!
I couldn't agree more
Which type of 56K modem did you see in 1992?
>>The 56K modem was invented by Dr. Brent Townshend in 1996.
