Just to clarify, ImageMagick is not called everytime someone views that smaller thumbnail everytime they view the Wikipedia article... only when the orginal article was edited
It's good you pointed that out, because if there's one thing Wikipedia.org sucks at it's serving up images. Other than the front page, they always seem to load very slowly or not at all for large images.
I found it just browsing around in Google Earth. I wasn't looking for craters. It's near the Lake of the Woods / International Falls area of Minnesota, which is the northernmost point in the lower 48 states. Whatever scale I happened to be using the rings were pretty obvious.
Is this in a database somewhere? It's like a bulls-eye of small islands. I found this while looking around with Google Earth. It's near Lake of the Woods Minnesota USA / Canada.
These types of stories pop up on Slashdot once in a while... "City X to implement citywide wireless". I was just wondering what other cities have announced such plans. Which ones actually have working systems today?
DING! Well there you go, I thought. From then on I saw my primary responsiblities as being three: 1.) Advise the coders on what decisions made the most sense based on the overall agenda of the project and its team members and come to an understanding of how we planned to move forward; 2.) Go to meetings and speak to that position, gather requirements from the other team members and communicate them back to my staff; and 3.) Keep the guys out of those same meetings as much as humanly possible.
I told you! I deal with the goddamn customers so the engineers don't have to!!! I am good at dealing with people!!! Can't you understand that? What the hell is the matter with you?!?!?
Spitzer released the following statement directed at the recording industry:
"Good Evening. As the duly designated representative of the city, county and state of New York, I hereby order you to cease any and all supernatural activity and return forthwith to your place of origin or the nearest convenient parallel dimension."
Naturally the running joke is that they misspelled First Street.
Kentucky puts county names on their vehicle license plates. One of the counties is called "Good". Seeing one of these cars driving along makes me think that Kentucky has a new official state slogan:
In a new book, Sonic Youth frontman Thurston Moore and his hipster pals lament the demise of the mix tape in the age of the iPod.
..."Mix Tape: The Art of Cassette Culture." Edited by Sonic Youth frontman Thurston Moore, "Mix Tape" claims to be the first book wholly devoted to mix-tape culture. "Not only is [the era of the mix tape] over, but there are so many people who don't even know what it is," Moore said in a long phone interview. "Think of people born in the '80s."
Music and mathmatics from one person? Who else read that as Simon Garfunkle? Come on... I couldn't be the only person here, could I?
Well, for starters, Simon & Garfunkle are already two people... then add this Simson Garfinkel guy, and you've got three. Music and math from three people... not so impressive.
"This recording contains no offensive material apart from four cunts, one clitoris, and foreskin, and as they only appear in this opening introduction, you're past them now."
I've had this box for 4 years and I can say without question that it has by far the best remote I've ever used. It's very comfortable in the hand, and I was using it by feel within hours of getting it.
I hope my box continues to work, because that's one thing a Series 2 box will not have. I recently got a Toshiba DVDivo (for a different TV) and the remote eats by comparison.
My boss (a computer engineer) bought a printer at Best Buy and was told by the sales drone that he should buy the "gold" USB cable to go with it. This was supposed to allow the maximum resolution for photo printing. A cheaper USB cable would have resulted in blurry prints! HA!
Update: 05/19 13:34 GMT by T: Several comments to this thread indicate that the listed mailbox size limit has returned to the previous 1GB level, so this apparent change may be nothing more than the result of a misplaced decimal point.
Michael Bolton: Shit! I always do that. I always mess up some mundane detail.
They showed a man who was unable to use his hands, who was outfitted with brain-wave controlled electrical stimulation of his muscles. He was able to open and close his hand by thinking about it.
Project Gotham Racing 2 on X-Box (X-Box Live) is great because you CAN see what the other players do from the comfort of your own couch.
In any of the single player events, you can download a ghost of any of the top ten players worldwide at that event. You can then watch the ghost, or race against it.
It's great seeing how people can accumulate 50,000+ kudos in one race... or millions of kudos if they "cheat".

There is a really obvious circular pattern in the center of that one, and a slightly less obvious one just off to the east.

SlagheapWhere are all the moderators?
Reginal? Is that where you vote for kings and queens?
From TFA:
As per best practices, all three designs were constructed with the double layering technique described elsewhere [2].
well, TFA is loading for me, and this is no sex-bot. It looks more like the Jakovasaur from South Park.

Finally, we did something important. (I'm just kidding)
No... Don't sell Canada short. This is important!
This must be one of those press hits.

The PBS show "Scientific American Frontiers" did an episode in 2001 showing examples of this.
You can see info about the segment here.
