how they used Skype as an example. I dont get how a company that practically gives away phone calls is worth billions. They make it sound like paying billions for it is a good sign.
If simply putting files in a shareable folder means you are sharing the material. A website is simply a bunch files. Do we get to copy their website since they are obviously sharing it:)
'the most dangerous manned spacecraft ever flown '
As opposed to the ones that have a powered ejection seat...
Surely you cant eject gracefully from that little Russian capsule either, or can you?
So the LEAST dangerous one would be ???
or does he simply work for a aerospace design corp now?
WOuld be handy i suppose IF you were in the right time of launch to use it and IF you had time to activate and IF you were pointed the right way (wouldn't really want to eject toward the path of a booster rocket or something).
Exactly how long does one have when the bomb you are riding on goes off? Didnt the first one blow up almost immediately? Certainly you cant eject during reentry, if your ship is burning up, isnt that jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire?!?
And the only way to get people to upgrade will be to convince them they won't have to download 76 updates with Vista. Should even be true for a few days.....
SO it would come down to: Who can write the best title for a bill?
no thanks, that may be worse than voting for the best salesman:O
Noone has time/energy now it seems to research the basics much less the details. You think Average Joe has a hope of understanding more than a small fraction of bills if that?
"have to upgrade machines because their old one isn't powerful enough to run their apps AND all the "keep me safe" software."
So did you talk them into upgrading? I find loading up anything good on an old box is a noticable slowdown:(
Actually have the same problem at office, i cant run the AV/Firewall and actually use our main program at the same time:( The program we need will run on anything but still need windows/IE for a couple programs. However the AV/firewalls i tried absolutely hate the terminal emulator program, they want to check EVERY keystroke whcih tosses speed out the window:/ Too tough to explain why the 2GHZ celeron is slower than the.2GHZ dos box was....
Upgrading because we cant run the security, yet we can run the needed programs (all quite happy on anything with a pentium) is a tough sell to say the least.
Well, i just copied my old game collection off disks. Out of 120 5-1/4" disks only about 4 were unreadable. Out of 100 3-1/2" disk there were about 5-6 unusable. The handful of pressed CDs were readable. My old backup tape (huge old cartridge) was ok. The newer backup i made on TR-5 tape was ok, except for a bad file of no consequence.
Upgraded my 386 with 2 540mb HD (biggest MB would recognize) via ebay and copied everything there. Then xcopy the whole thing , eventually;), to the other drive.
Interesting that the oldest disks had one of the higher read rates. Unfortunately that dropped on disks of useable capacities (2 of maybe 12 for the 1.2m disks)
Tapes as an alternative wouldnt seem any better than cd:( They still degrade and finding the right drive/drivers is a royal pain. Tho i do have a TR-5 drive and tapes saved. These were hooked to the floppy drive channel tho and may or maynot work on a given new computer:( Pretty much down to: Find an old (pentium2 was ok)system or use the Backup for the Backup drive (ok i was pretty anal at one point) a Parallel Port version! Hope i never need anything for those now because 'now' would be days to get it back off probably !
I vote for using a HD whether new, used, or obsolete. In fact i think i'll set up an enclosure at work to recycle these old bigfoot drives. I only need a couple gig of data in any one backup and they are damn sturdy little buggers.
While the new tape drive seems to work great, i have no clue on readabilty or lifespan. Small 20G SCSI in an IBM eserver. Vendor gave no way to test the backup solution tho its much faster than i thought.
I found the same problem playing Roller Coaster Tycoon3:(
Upping the video card 2 steps gave almost as much of a boost as moving it from the intel to the amd box;) Although both are a little underpowered for it. hehe replaced a geforce 4 with a 6600GT and got a frame or 2 per second increase:(
Interesting was the fact that the AMD exactly matches the performance of the intel box now but it uses the geforce 4 (vs the 6600gt). Intel 2.4 vs AMD 2500+, I couldn't decide so i built matching boxes a couple years ago:)
I would bet that many apps will choke before ya get to that second card
Way under.1g probably. Probably had a little fraction of an once of impact force. Not surprising to survive especially as there was probably cushioning not accounted for and 2295 sounds extremely high.....
I ran our minicomputer's HD (13" platter) with the drive open a couple times. Incredible to watch the magnetic shaft the size of my wrist bounce back and forth. One of the computer experiences i'll always remember:) Also got to see the results of it turning itself into a lathe once hehe. Surely these little ones will be nowhere near as entertaining to watch but since i cant get the 13" platters into my clear desktop i'll be interested:)
But we can be lazy too and building a clear cover that is fairly safe for current drives is hard;)
Last month when i saw this it even admitted it was Contingent on Further Funding!
Have they drummed up the money (good lord from who?) to actually make it or are they still begging for dollars? A quarter or two away is just near infinity for these guys so i ain't holding my breath....
Now you gave away next weeks story:
Google and Adobe to paint streets to match maps colors...
SO we have given up the whole NEWS for NERDS theme here ???
Why is this presented as real ?!?
My 9-year-old niece could tell you that isnt gonna work, especially in a few minutes.
Not sure why i hang out here anyway, 3/4 of this is in my paper usually the same day. Is that better than most locals?
Got stuck trying to find how many plants were built in 2005
:O
Anyone? Looks like 40 plants being licensed or built currently...pretty vague info
Since the US has done 0? lately, i was curious how many a 50% increase is....
I find some of these numbers interesting, like the cableco paying over $3k per customer in buyouts
Although with a product priced in the billions, it seems like there may be a little room for some profit
Asheron's Call let us marry same-sex :)
:(
Too bad there is noone left there to marry
and i dont believe marriage is even done anymore, not sure noone to marry, hehe.
What did i miss in article?
how they used Skype as an example. I dont get how a company that practically gives away phone calls is worth billions. They make it sound like paying billions for it is a good sign.
Anyone explain this?

Someone please tell people how to turn off the computer when windows forgets how!
;)

hehe, pet peeve needed petting
Good idea but sounds intimidating, good luck
"A survey of US and UK music buyers..."
;)
:)
You had to have bought something (online) to get on the survey. If you stole ALL the music you didnt count hehe
Or they have more disposable income to have bought CDs and tunes to fill it.
Probably some of all of the above and the article summary
Bigger thieves or Bigger suckers take your pick....
hehe, statistics are what you make them
"For example, an up-spin can represent a one, or a down-spin can represent a zero -- or the qubit can occupy both states simultaneously"
This way windows can be working and not working at the same time.
oh, wait.....

No mod points today :(

Good point for those of you mentioning this tho.

They can't afford to pay the accountant....
hehe, on the other hand you cant really lose much at this point.
How much can a 1mm worm weigh?
.1g probably.
Way under

Right below the article it says you can buy the magnetic ring at shopping.com :)
Maybe the air force doesn't have internet connection eh?
Ok, i suppose that is a point :)

Of course it will!

It's really being developed as an alternate dimension cable-layer for Verizon fiber
"I haven't listened to the radio for music in years because all the record companies can come out with these days is crap"
;) Heck they play a full album each night at 11 for classic pirates, hehe :)
Perhaps thats why i have it tuned to a classic rock station

Scary, looks like it will self-destruct if you breathe on it wrong.
;)
Hope it is sturdier than it looks...by a lot
It's a faster blimp, although prototype seems to be missing alot of wings and engines....
Call me on the next prototype please.
